Some gun nigger did a neat test in which he took a 24 inch 308 barreled bolt action rifle and ran it though a bunch of tests, then cut and crowned the barrel a few inches shorter and tested again, and so on to measure differences between the barrel lengths with different loads.

His results were intresting. The diffefence between 20 and 16 inches was minimal, only really expressed at extreme distances. If you are not shooting past 4 or 5 hundred years the difference was minimal.

If you have a G3-deriative handy try holding the stock like you would the rifle in the picture, surprisingly comfy and easy to align sights.

Drop in a PSG1 5 round mag and you got a non pistol grip under 10 round HK .308 hunting raifu with style.

Outside of the box i have an sbr cut to 11.5 " bbl to ensure full powder burn and frag or expansion on target.
Keep it in my truck and with a can its just about the same overall length of a regular rifle.

From what I hear, 7.62x39 is better for carbines because it loses a lot less velocity than 5.56 (and even 5.45) out of a shorter barrel. Probably because the design is more near the pistol side of the intermediate cartridge spectrum. I.e. shorter and wider.

Still about a 2-300 fps gap with 13" barrels. The issue is the fireball. .300 is the much more efficient cartridge for sure
