I don't know much about Vietnam or the pacific theater in WW2 but I would have to assume the WW2 marines were more motivated since more of them joined on their own volition rather then being drafted

Vaguely related, does anyone else find it strange that most Americans have no idea what the military does or what the different branches do?

this is a REALLY stupid question.

Lots of modern tactics were developed in both of these wars, and naturally during the time difference between them there were advances in recruit and infantry training and specializations.
