Are blank-firing movie guns still subject to the NFA? Couldn't you just swap uppers on a blank firing M16 to a proper one and go full giggle? If they ARE subject to the NFA, how do they get M240s and G36s with 922(o) being a thing? (For now. Soon)

Movie set armorers and weapon rental companies are generally (Type 7, Type 8, Type 10, or Type 11) Federal Firearms Licensees that pay their Class 1 or Class 2 Special Occupational Tax that makes them fully licensed manufacturers or importers of NFA weapons.

Yes they are still fully regulated NFA items, it's not like they're deactivated.
IIRC the MP5 carried by Dr. Dre in Training Day was an airsoft replica, specifically because Dre is a felon and they couldn't legally have him handling an NFA, blank-converted real MP5
