You'll want to be somewhat low key, I would recommend a half mask respirator with P-100 cartridges. Pair that with a set of chemical splash goggles. The gogs have indirect vents which you'll want to seal with tabs of tape.

This setup doesn't give you the complete coverage that a full face rig does, but it's considerably less conspicuous. Tape a bandana over the respirator cartridges, because they're neon pink and will get you singled out for special attention.

Carry spare eyepro, as well. There's a good chance yours will get dislodged and lost in the ruckus.

Respirator: 3M 6000 or 7000 series halfmask.

Eyepro: UVEX splash goggles.

Could I cover it up easily enough with something like this? How inconspicuous do I need the respiratory protection to be to avoid senpai policeman noticing me?

https://blackblok.com/masks/guy-fawkes/balaclava-tube/medic-guy-fawkes/red-anonymous-medic-response-team-guy-fawkes-balaclava-tube-mask?zenid=89jqh2gjacuvimvicup1qg7l14

I'd probably get the black one instead of the red one, but the red has better pictures. Also, is the V visage still popular at protests? I haven't played fix-the-broken-hippie since Occupy.
>>
>>29507210
That mask might work to cover a respirator. You might want to look into welding respirators, they're designed to fit under welding hoods.

I'm not really up to speed on current protest fashions, but I suspect the Guy Fawkes look is still trending.

>>
>>29506626
if you want a mask I would get a modern commercial mask

they are the most comfortable by miles and are actually designed for sustained use
if you are a protester/anarchist fag just get a 3M half face mask with organic fapour filters and smiwing goggles

antique masks are very very heavy, combersome, the filters are often out of date o toxic; many just don't work

milsurp from isreal or the czech repubilic are all over the market
they look pretty cool, and come at a decent price, also they usually have drinking tubes.
how would they rate in terms of protection to a modern mask?
no idea

just remember
A. you need a LOT of filters
B. filters go bad by being exposed to normal air, even if not in a mask
C. you need the right filters
D. practice putting one on in a hurry
E. the filters to mil-spec masks have plastic seals that must be removed prior to use, put them on with the plastic in and you can suffocate in your mask
F. you need masks that the filter can be changed without taking the mask off, I think czech are notable at failing in this
E. you are going to need HAZMAT suits, duct tape and a decontamination procedure if you are worried about a milliraty scale attack
preppers this means an airlock in your shelter and industrial air filters

>>
>>29507672
How sturdy are the straps? Looks like a welding style half-mask respirator would be harder to have ripped off my face.
>>
>>29507781
how sturdy are the straps?
depends on what type of mask

the half face masks are just made for painters, with a double overhead strap
so they would be pretty easy to pull from a face

the full face masks have straps like modern millitary ones, albiet a bit less rugged

also the straps are decontaminatable on a lot of welding style masks, something often overlooked
toxic agent on your straps, poison yourself the next time you put it on, and can't store it in clean area

but realistically, wearing a mask makes you venurable
here's a test, get your mask and get a fiend to spray you in the face with a water pistol
now try doing anything while that is happening

in a riot you rely in numbers, if tear gas works on 90% of the people there, you're going to be fucked even if the gas doesn't get you personally; so it's really just for protection while you run away

in a SHTF situation I would advise hiding the fact you are wearing a mask, even if that means wrapping a cotton shirt around it or something, people who are choking will mob you for your respirator gear
>>
>>29507877
Yeah, I meant the half-mask you referenced. I suspected it was easy to have broken off my face. The welding half-masks seem to take similar cartridges, have a lower profile, and have beefier straps.
>>
>>29507940
if you get grabbed by police expect them to rip off the mask

the full face masks are also a face shield too, generally they are superior; exept that they draw alot of attention to you in a crowd
>>
>>29508085

well that depends where you are in the world
I had 3M recommend in the states

but that being said, these are for industrial use and so they meet standard accreditation if you arn't in some third world shithole

so just google your local certification of industrial safety products and I recon you would be safe with any that met certification

you can buy them at large hardware stores, specialist trade stores (esp electrical, painting, welding) or online
but expect the better ones to be crazy expensive, they are often better than mil-spec and price as such

word of caution though, the fucking chinese are selling thowsands of substandard knock-offs for export to africa, they get only ebay all the time and ebay is doing fuck all about it

so if you want a price check, go the the manufacturers website and find your local stocker
>>
>>29508814
Man, the full facepiece 3M respirators are a lot more expensive than the half masks.
>>
>>29508806
fake as fuck

dust masks won't work unless they are airtight, and even then only if they have organic vapor filters

eye protection must be waterproof, NOT just eye protection

anti-acid in water does work though
just be aware that you are exposing people to it that might have an allergic reaction
>>
>>29508870

What the fuck is this, a restaurant? If you got severe allergies to certain chemicals, the least smart thing to do is go to a riot with police dumping chemicals on protestors.
And if you do go, you'd be a retard to not prepare with things to deal with your bad allergies.

well I can only look at it, at least it meets certification

one big issue is filter availability, like guns some manufacturers try to make a quick buck by releasing a model that only accepts a proprietary cartridge that they price-up later

don't see why you wouldn't get

because they are compatible with serious filters which might come in handy

but yours would work just fine I suppose, it meets certification

>>
>>29512279
How much German do I need to learn first? On one hand, I've heard that a lot of medical programs are taught in English so as to promote international endeavors, but on the other hand, I've heard that I'm too white to be allowed to immigrate without near-fluent German.

>>
>>29512393

You should understand what they say, otherwise it will be a lot harder to learn everything. But most germans speak english, a lot fluent, so i think you can ask alot around.
I never heard about someone sent back home cause of bad german. You can come around quite well without german, and you will learn it much faster when you are here. Cause then, you must learn.

>>29512842

Google respirator fit testing. There's 2 set ups commonly used- banana oil and irritant smoke. I've used both, I prefer the irritant smoke because it gives you a definitive go-no go answer.

To fit test yourself, you'll need a decent sized mirror. Google the OSHA fit test standard, use that as your template.

If you're fitting a half mask, and using the irritant smoke protocol, get yourself some swim goggles or similar. That smoke hurts like a mad bastard if it gets in your eyes.

Gasmasks will do you no good in smoke or in any condition where the air isn't naturally breathable such as Carbon monoxide.

The effect of tear gas is not the smoke, but the fine particles that attach and attack the lungs.

I know older medics, firefighters, and hazmat response guys who are going to the hospital the next time they try to do anything strenuous with a pack do to duty-related injuries, so they stick to PAPR business and/or supervisor/instructor roles.

Furthermore, if the threat is known to be limited to something for which a small mask will suffice, it's a lot easier to shove a 3M respirator and goggles into your cargo pocket than it is to traipse about in full firefighter fetish gear--also decreases the chance of fucking up your back when some asshole in the crowd knocks you on your ass.

I wear an SCBA on the fire and rescue trucks and a PAPR (with a facepiece instead of a hood) for shit in the ambulance, because it takes up less space and the back of an ambulance is cramped as hell.

Go to the CDC website and it will tell you a P100 filter from 3m will filter the particulates of tear gas.

South Korean K1 (or Evolution 5000's) are pretty neat masks. Pretty expensive on surplus sites, you can get one for a good deal on eBay sometimes. I only spent $25 on mine. But if you really want something for tear gas, you might want something like an M10, or a more practical Israeli 4A1 or M15, since the filters for those don't take up to 10 minutes to replace.
>>
>>29515248
One solution is to try different respirator brands, see if you can find one that doesn't interfere. The reason I use 3M with UVEX goggles is that they don't interfere with each other.

Everybody has a different face profile. You might have to play mix'n'match with eyepro and respirator brands/styles/sizes until you hit the right combo.

>>29520202
I agree, they are really cool masks. My first mask I bought was an M10M, which is essentially the same, except it uses a drinking tube, much like the M17A2 gas mask (which it was a copy of).

Since the M10 is one of the many Eastern Blo copies of the US M17 gas mask series, they also use bilateral internal cheek filters. Meaning the filters go INSIDE the mask, rather than being threaded on. Trust me when I say that they are a HUGE pain in the ass to install.
>>
>>29520237
so you say the only thing thats expired is the filter? so if I bought new filters I would have a working gas mask again? is it the mask itself thats "only good for tear gas" or were you talking about the filters. Also whats NBC situations? Nuclear Blast Conditions?
>>
>>29520272
Well, the M10 has been out of service for a long time. There's a good reason why they replaced proprietary cheek filter masks. All the filters are expired, even if they are sealed. Most filters have activated charcoal in them, which gradually deteriorates over time, since the charcoal weakens, (kind of becomes a slight powdery substance in the filter), which greatly lowers it's filtering capacity, rendering the filter useless for NBC scenarios, but I'm pretty sure that they'd still good for tear gas though. NBC stands for Nuclear Biological and Chemical.

Note: The M10 will NOT take 40mm or 60mm threaded filters. It uses cheek filters made specifically for it, which again are long expired.

Isn't the GP-5 a civilian mask anyway? I thought military masks were supposed to have the filters on the side or inside the cheeks so they don't fuck up your cheek weld.

What kind of filter would I need to filter everything that is able to be filtered? I.e. not carbon monoxide (as that would require a air tank) and not CBRN agents that work through skin contact (as that would require a pressurised hazmat/CBRN suit). Is there even a filter that will cover "everything"? Or do you have to know what you're up against and swap filters accordingly?

Personally, I think Mestel filters would probably be your best choice. They're expensive as hell, but you get what you paid for. They're pretty much the H&K of filters.

Filters by Scott Aviation are also pretty high quality and can filter out most particulates.

But if you aren't made of money, Korean K1 filters are a better alternative, they are allegedly twice as effective as the US Military's C2A1 filter.

Does anyone have a guide on how to repurpose gas mask filters?
