or they just hoard or resell it?
>>
Mostly hoarders.
>>
Hoarders, I mean how much do you all have on hand seriously? I've got about 1800
>>
>>29498694
It's basically the new beanie baby.
>>
I shoot fairly often, but I like to keep a minimum of 2000 rounds just for good measure.
>>
at least 10000
I kept buying it because it was hard to get
I eventually realized that there's no point to buying it because I only shoot it out of my 22LR target pistol
>>
>>29498694
When Trump gets to office and vetos all of Obama's executive orders, will 22lr become plentiful again?

Or is the trouble manufacturing? Why haven't any businesses started going gangbusters with this round?
>>
>>29498721
Ditto. Granted I'll plink away a thousand in one range trip.
>>
>>29498757
Don't executive orders expire when a new president takes office?
>>
>>29498791
Beats me.
>>
>>29498757
Trump, if he somehow gets elected, really has no power over ammo production. Unless he nationalizes the industry, which isn't out of the realm of possibilities, but again you'd be hedging your bets on an unlikely situation as far as the general election goes.

Ammo manufacturers know they can charge out the ass for .22 because they have old fudds panic buying now for the 4th year straight.
The means of production for lots of .22 exists but the market is dictating a high price so it's rare.

Anyways, I have about 2,400 rounds of brick .22 and roughly 600 rounds of hollow point CCI and Remington.

I use the brick .22 for gun training my bird dog but the rest is sitting in a safe. unless I go out to the farm I work to shoot rabbits, even then I prefer shotguns with 2 3/4 #4 teal shot because I'm usually drinking when I shoot at them and .22 is hard to find.
>>
>>29498757
wasn't the problem cause obama closed some mine down and killed the industry? trump wants to kill off the epa and reopen the mines.
>>
>>29498797
It's been almost 8 years since Obongo took over. Can't remember all.
>>
>>29498807
Like a lead mine? Or some mineral needed for rimfire primers?
>>
I usually shoot most of what I have, save for maybe 1-2k rounds.
At least in my area, the meme of "can't find .22" isn't really a "thing" unless you're a retard, or only shop big box stores.
In fact, I don't think I've ever seen .22 in a Walmart, Meijer, etc... Fairly certain whoever works there just hoards it/sets it aside for friends and family to buy the second they get a shipment.

Dedicated "sporting goods" stores will have a better supply. I know of several that will actually only put 4-5 boxes on display/in the case so that when someone buys it, they just replenish the few boxes instead of selling it all at once; creating the illusion that they only have X amount.
I've had a lot of fudd-tier clerk douches attempt to dissuade me from buying tho...
>claiming sub-sonics won't cycle in whichever gun I tell them I'll be using; could be a bolt gun, doesn't matter
>imposing purchase limits when the store they work in has no such policy

My LGS's are usually good about stocking 22. No limits, no hassle. May be just a touch over what I'd like to spend, but it's available.
>>
>>29498815
I think lead mining and processing/smelting is illegal in amerika because epa and spotted owls.
>>
>>29498694
I have at least 30k worth of them.
One day I need to get a gun...
>>
>>29498797
>>29498791

No, you're thinking of executive agreements, which are used in foreign policy between a President and some other head of state in lieu of an actual treaty.

Executive orders are forever until reversed; a lot of them are really important, like the one that integrated the military
>>
>>29498694
It's my most shot calibre, gotta do my part in preventing the rabbit uprising.
>>
>>29498890
Can a new POTUS reverse them?
>>
>>29498694
I usually have 4-5K on hand, but I usually also have 3-4K of 9mm and .45 ACP...plus, I shoot it all of the time. Who the hell is reselling it? I've never made a private ammo purchase in my life.
>>
>>29498838

Everything is illegal in America and all business operations are in violation.

You can't do anything without breaking the law and you have no rights.
>>
>>29498935
The scalpers bought it all up after Sandy Vagina and kept trying to resell it at more than double the value to profit off of the scare of a possible ban and drastic price hike that never happened. They would set up booths at gun shows with big signs that advertised .22, and would sometimes not even bother ripping the price sticker off the box as they told people that "it ain't as cheap as it used to be, but I'm giving you the best rate in town". As the stock started to come back in, these fudds saw their sham dipping one foot in its own grave, so they started to buy all of the new stock up to create a literal artificial shortage that they could profit off of. The reason for ammo limits is because of these fuckers, and while ammo companies are consistently meeting the demand of the average market, the reason that people STILL cannot find .22 is because of these crotchety fucks that are, by now, sitting on hundreds of thousands of rounds that are likely starting to corrode by now, desperately trying to pawn it off to recoup their initial investment. Nobody is buying it anymore, but a dead giveaway is when someone is selling a VERY large amount of it in a single package price, usually in plastic bags.
>>
>>29498963
Isn't there a radio show you should be planning, Alex?
>>
>>29498978
This is why I buy new from big stores.
>>
>>29498927
Sure. They're the executive. The Supreme Court can reverse them too of course.
>>
>>29499019
Good to know. Thanks anon.
>>
>>29498978
This is why I just steal it.
>>
>>29499035
You're either full of shit or fucking over your LGS when they aren't looking, either way you're full of shit on some level.
>>
>>29498694

I shoot mine. I will spend the yr saving up, buying a box of 500 every two weeks or so. Than two friends and I do some car camping up in the mountains for a week, shoot it all up then. Last time we did that, I had prob 10k rounds we went through.
>>
>>29498807
Nope, what got killed was the last ore to ingot smelter in the US, since it was lead dusting the town nearby.
They refused to put on filters or pack out of the country to China.

We have plenty of lead smelters in the US, that process old lead or new ingots.

Also to the EPA hate, do you agree then that China is a model place with its pollution?
>>
>>29498694
I shoot about 200 per week, and buy enough to restock. Problem is as shooting level increase I shoot more and more of the expensive stuff like RWS match and less and less plinking tier. Good thing is CCI Standard is on-par with most of the middle and some of the high tier ammo. When you sort them by weight it's amazing.
>>
>>29498807
A couple years ago the last operational lead smelting plant closed down.

They didn't supply any lead at all to any ammo manufacturers though, so obviously it didn't have any impact on the firearms industry.
>>
>>29500005
>China is a model place
According to some, it's better. But they get paid to say it. Also, Taiwan #1.
>>
>>29500005
>put on filters so you stop poisoning people or we have to close you
>no thanks

Are they retarded?
>>
>>29498694
I shot .22 a lot more when I lived out of town.
Now, shooting is harder than just stepping outside, so I usually go the extra mile and buy bigger calibers.
>>
>>29500687
Yeah, consequence of chronic lead poisoning.

They'd also been at it for decades, it was not some sudden Obama case.

Its a big issue in the US, most of the antiEPA cases are neglecting the facts.
Such as the deltasmout in cali?
Its a loophole abuse to stop the water from being drained and hurting more businesses.

OTOH, a lot of companies are going out of their way to be dicks, such as the many tailing ponds in the Appalachias, chem spills in the making and so on.

The EPA is itself a dick, as the agents are so used to no retreat, no surrender modes of fighting, they don't work near at all on the single individual level where a polite letter would solve the issue.
Then you got assholes like pondman the reservoir guy trying to fake it out being a small single man reinforcing the EPAs burn it all mentality.

And we can legit say we are better with the EPA than before, which is the fun part.
They look like villains, right up until you check out what led to them and what they're still dealing with.

Then you have blame throwers like Flint trying to say its the EPAs fault, when Flint never declared an emergency and invoked the EPA.
Same as that Colorado town with the mines.
Of course nobody wants to talk about what leads to the EPA needing to be there and where the responsible parties went...
But yeah, dumbasses all around, I'll take the group that at least give me a chance of breathing.
>>
In AL (SE US) the shortage is all but over. Only thing that hasn't recovered is bulk packs at Walmart.

I buy much more than I shoot, due to the fact that for 4yrs you could only find match stuff at >$10 50rd box or shitty stuff at almost that price.

I will continue to buy more than I use because it's hard to forget the long drought.

I have about 6500rds now, about half CCI mini mags and the other half bulk stuff.
>>
>>29498694
ive got about 400 rounds, but i shoot it frequently. I always keep at LEAST 400rnds so i can leave without stopping by the gun shop.
>>
>>29500724
There are people who legitimately think that businesses should be able to poison people around them with no consequences because "muh free market".
>>
Everyone I know does, myself included.

I've got about 200 CCI minimags I keep for my p22 since it's the only stuff the gun will even kinda work with, then I have a 1,400rnd bucket of golden bullet for my rifles that I'm eating through.

Haven't seen 22lr at Walmart since before obamas 2nd term.

>starting to corrode by now
Not unless its been stored in a swamp
>>
>>29498806
>live in florida. no idea there was a .22 shortage. Go, buy a brick of 540 rounds, shoot a little under 200. go home. jack off.
>>
>>29498694
I've got a few thousand rounds. Fuck hoarding, i used to plink with it but since the stuff is unicorn farts now I just use it for pest control.
>>
My aunt is the sporting goods department manager at the Canton, Ga Wal-Mart. For over a year now, she has been holding every box of .22 that comes into the store for me. I go in to buy it, she goes on break and buys it for me with her discount. It works out great.
I checked inventory this week and I have over 125k rounds of various brands.

I want to get one of pic related for underbarrel autism, what's a reliable brand of ammo for it?
>>
I like to have about a thousandish rounds if I can. But all in all in Canada there isn't much of a .22 problem, never really was one. In fact maybe we saw a bit of a price increase but that was about all. What's funny is a local gas station in my town has better pricing and better supply than the LGS that got shut down by the police a little while ago. But for the most part even my small town can keep my adequately supplied with .22.

As for shooting it I do quite often, my shotguns and .22's get shot the most by far out of the other guns in my collection.
>>
>>29498757
Ammunition manufacturers limit the amount of .22lr they produce because they don't want the price going down too much.

They have a set number of rounds to produce and a set price to sell them at.
>>

I was forced to buy 22lr last weekend at the gunshow because the shelves are empty or too marked up to even buy in my area.

It was Last years CCI Merry Christmas 3-100 pack for 25 each.

I'm sure they are creating an artificial shortage by keeping them stored because that was a one time box set from last year.

I don't even own a.22 and I buy a box or two whenever available.
>>
>>29504807
true, but i like remington 22 the least.
their 22 seems leave more fouling than other bulk 22. it also seems to have more duds per box than other brands i've tried.
but im not complaining, beggars cant be choosy. if its in stock for a reasonable price, ill still buy it.

tfw i just inherited my great grandfather's rifles but both of them are in. 22 and the only 22 i have is less than 500rds he bought in the 60s. They are really beautiful rifles though. A sears t3 and winchester model 74 both in great condition, especially the model 74 which is from 1941. Just wish my uncle hadnt pawned his remington hunting rifle, and that his luger he brought back from the war had gone to my grandfather instead of my grand uncle.

>vetos all of Obama's executive orders
Obama's executive orders did nothing. .22lr being hard to find is because all of the people who got into shooting after Obama got elected and manufacturers are having to expand their facilities to produce more after a few years of running their assembly lines 24 hours a day.

>>29498807
It was a lead smelting plant that shut down. There are primary (deal with oar after it's mined) and secondary (deal with recycling) lead smelting plants. The lead used in bullets has come from lead recycled at the secondary smelting plants for a long time now.

>>29501605
>>29502604
The shortage isn't artificial. Companies have been running their assembly lines for all hours of the day for years now and have recently started expanding their facilities so that they can produce more .22lr.
>>
>>29507703
One, neither of those are true, and two, I live here in U.S. So I get to enjoy no limits and private sales.
>>
I shoot most of mine, I have four guns that use it. It's a fun round.
>>
>>29498757
Obama did nothing to make .22 hard to find, except inspire 50 million people who didn't own guns to go out a buy a first gun.

And we sold them .22s

.22 won't be common again unless we go a couple years without any new big wave of shooters.

Currently we make and import enough .22 for each .22 owner to have about 800 rounds. But that's still over 120 billion rounds of .22.

Manufacturers are adding capacity at about 10% a year, but it's going to take a few years after we meet demand for there to be enough on the market that the hoarders and resellers settle down, and we haven't met demand yet.

No one is going "gangbusters" because profit is low on bulk .22, but Federal is still on track to make 80 billion rounds just by themselves this year.
>>29498978
I know a guy who scalps, he buys as much as he can from 8-12 stores, sells about half at gun shows, but he marks it up 300%, so he still makes good money on what he's buying, even if he's sitting on a massive stash of .22 and shoots .22 constantly.

He's an asshole.
>>29501605
Nah, cunt.

It's market forces. Sure, the MFGs are being conservative about adding capacity, but that's just because they don't want to get buttfucked by the bubble collapsing when the market is saturated enough that the hoarders quit. So no one's going to go into debt adding .22 LR capacity.

But they add capacity every year, and they'll break the curve eventually.

>>29498694
i have one .22LR pistol, and a 1911 conversion kit

i have around 10k + .22LR that i've been using when i've been bored that i bought over a span of a decade or more. recently purchased a 525 brick for $35, and for less than an hour's work i can plink for days.

i really don't see any shortage or even a price increase at all, but then, i don't shoot .22LR all that much.
>>
>>29508805

>>
>>29509118
I am but those limits are only for normies. If you can prove you need anything more you can appeal for a permit through a gun club that you shoot at. It sucks, but it's a way to get around it.

My cousin is the department manager at a Wal-Mart. For over a year now, she has been holding every box of .22 that comes into the store for me. I go in to buy it, she goes on break and buys it for me with her discount. It works out great.
I checked inventory this week and I have over 100k rounds of various brands. I shoot some of it, but mostly I just want to be insulated from the periodic scares, and make a little money at the same time. It gets pretty lucrative each mass shooting.

I have a couple boxes of assorted loose .22lr but 9mm and .223 are so much more fun to shoot and so much easier to find at "reasonable" prices that I'll probably only shoot 50 .22lr per range trip, if I even bring my .22 rifle.

If I want to shoot spitwads, I can just bring my pellet gun and enjoy shooting truly expendable ammunition.

I can't even remember the last time I shot .22lr. I'm literally plinking with 9mm. Shit's expensive, but at least gas is getting cheaper these days.

>>
i was cleaning out my car earlier this week, found a 555 brick of .22

i also found 100 rounds of 9mm.

fuck the hoarding haters, how do you think your dad had all that fucking ammo that you got to enjoy? because every week or so he bought some ammo, put it up, and only shot some of it.

if anything do it for the future generation, they're going to be ultra cucked as it is. imagine when little jimmy finds his daddy's marlin 795 or 60, and a few thousand rounds of .22 of various types he didn't even know existed like subsonics and really high fps rounds.

i can only hope to have a son who steals my .22 rifle and ammo when i'm not at home, goes out into the woods and shoots shit with it to learn how fun guns really are.

I guess I'm a hoarder now. Ever since the shortage began I feel guilty whenever I shoot it.
>>
>>29498757
All of these reasons you are hearing are bullshit.

The reason this shit happened is because for some reason .22lr demand went way up in the span of only a couple years. Most people blamed the whole prepper movement to be the biggest cause, but no one is really certain why that shit flys off the shelves these days.

Anyways, the ammo companies just don't have the manufacturing capability to keep up with the increased demand.. I guess it is extremely expensive to build new ammo plants, and the companies feel that this increased demand is just a fad, and don't want to risk billions of dollars creating new plants.

I think this shit will pass eventually.. After the hoarding faggots have realized they don't need 2,000,000 rounds of .22lr

No dude, that's not the truth. The truth is, Vista Outdoors is hoarding their own ammo. I've said this before but nobody else is talking about it apparently. They have at least 6 warehouses full of .22lr right now. I have no idea why, but after seeing this:

http://www.ibtimes.com/political-capital/democratic-financier-george-soros-invested-firearm-companies-while-backing-gun

I have a nasty feeling. It might actually turn out to be true that the illuminati overlords are trying to keep American citizens from training their children to shoot.

Shoot it.
Maybe 2-300 rounds per week, give or take. Sometimes more if I'm bringing new people.
It's cheap and plentiful enough that there's no point in hoarding it, though I do like to keep a few hundred rounds spare just in case.
