It's shorter so humans can shoulder it properly instead of with a bladed stance. Also uses the same length buffer tube.

Not him, but if you're talking about the pistol grip, some people change them out because the "nub" on the A2 interferes with getting a good grip.

Anyone know of a good scope mount for an a1 upper? Was wanting to be able to throw a night vision scope on my retrobuild. 556 for varmit removal, and its the only 556 I have

Agreed.

A1 length is perfect. The closer the weapon is to your body and shorter the OAL the better.

My C7 was never more than 2 notches out. It makes it easier to maneuver and the longer the OAL the more difficult there is in maneuvering with full kit.
