Hmm, no floorplate on this one. Is there anything that would prevent me from adding a magpul hunter stock and their drop-in box mag conversion? Is this just a regular old 700 receiver in a cheap stock?
>>
>>29460196
Not the anon asking but, Marlin .30-.30 is my choice for hunting out of a climber in the bush. 30-06 for open field hunting.

Winchester model 70
>>
Get a rifle of your choice in 6.5 Creedmoor (preferably with 1:8.5 twist or faster).
I would have to know more about your budget to recommend a model.
>>
>>29460057
Buy a Remington 700 in .308 and turn it into an m40. Bonus points for pretending Bambi is Charlie sneaking up on your position.

Sorry forgot to add budget. I'd prefer to spend no more than $600 for rifle+scope but I'd stretch to $800 if it's worth it.
>>
>>29460057
Tikka/Sako make great guns

Slap a Swarovski on it my man
>>
>>29464059
If you're not doing any modifications, then get a Savage in 6.5 Creedmoor. Spend the rest on whatever scope you like, it'll work fine for you.

Depends on the range and if you plan on using the rifle later on for different game.

0-150 yards? You can get away with a full caliber lever gun. Something like a .30-30, .35 Remington, or .45-70 Government excels in these ranges and are big enough that you can take them hunting other large game at similar ranges.

If you plan on stretching out to maybe 300+ at any point, you're going to want a military cartridge or derivative. 5.56 is usually considered to small for deer (depending on where you live, i.e. Ohio deer are twice the size of Texas deer) but are big enough for varmint. .30-06 and .308 both give you enough power to really reach out and put something down and are pretty affordable to feed for just practice and plinking too. Derivatives like .270 and .243 will certainly suffice and are much flatter shooting but a little more expensive. .270 Win is just a little on the light side for say Elk and .243 is the smallest most are comfortable taking deer with.

If you want something for versatility, get a semi-automatic rifle in either an intermediate cartridge or something easy to change out. A Mini-14 in 6.8 or an AR-15 in 6.5 is an excellent choice for most game and can be built up in such a way that you could go from hog to muskrat to sheep in a matter of seconds with different uppers. Alternatively a good shotgun will take anything in America with proper loads.

OP said good
>>
anything except an AR-15. you can't even hunt with them because they blow the deer up.
>>
>>29466796
And keep in mind that while .35 rem is still a pretty nice round, only Hornady is really still manufacturing it in the Leverevolution load. So buying a Marlin 336 in it's not the best idea new.

And consider the Marlin over Winchester because:
A: Better built receiver
B: Simpler action that doesn't expose the clockwork innards
C: Ejects out the side, so mounting optics is easy
D: Loads from closed bolt position
>>
Browning x bolt. Better then Tikka but bad after marker

>>
>>29466932
.35 Rem is a bitch to get ahold of but for strictly hunting you can afford the 40 rounds to sight in and then 3 a year for game.
>>
>>29466796
Damn Rem700 is pure sex.

I was thinking about getting one but I hear that their quality low nowadays all the time.

Is that really true? And if it is, does it apply to all the variants? Which one should I get?

Anybody got a Mossberg MVP Varmint/Patrol/Patriot? I might get one of them in .308 for deer and hog hunting, but I couldn't find many reviews and comparisons online
>>
I got my savage hog hunter in .308 with a redfield revenge scope & quick detach rings for just over $600

I can hit water bottles at 300yrds with it quite easily
>>
>>29466932

Remington also makes it.

It is not hard to get a hole of, I live in the asscrack of nowhere MI, and 2/4 LGS stock at least one brand of 35rem.

If you are in Maine, then it is even easier. Every store has it, they love it up there.
