This guy knows whats up. Make sure you get it with the rubber grips that have the rosewood inlays too. Hell, depending on where you look, you could probably find one used for right around the 500 mark, my local shop sells em new for 600.
>>
That depends on intended purpose
That said, Ruger revolvers are built pretty tough, so you can typically find a used one in good condition if only because they're damn near impossible to break

For concealed carry, you might be able to score an LCR for a hair under $500. They make them in .22, .38 Spl +P, 9mm, and .357. The .357 is actually better for shooting .38 because the extra weight soaks up recoil and magnum loads don't offer much benefit out of short barrels. If terminal performance is what you're after, the 9mm version is your best bet if only because 9mm does the best out of short barrels compared to .38 and .357.

If you just want a full-sized revolver, look for a used SP101, Security Six, or GP100. The latter of these especially are built like tanks and pretty great shooters, but you might have trouble finding a used one under $500 precisely because they hold up so well. Save up a little more and you can buy a new one around $600, or the Match Champion at $720 or so.

Ruger GP100s, I bought mine for 400$ and my LGS has one used for 400$.

If you look around, you can find excellent prices on good items.

Disclaimer - I hardly know jack shit about S&W or Colt prices, so sorry my revolver knowledge is limited to Ruger.

S&W is comparable, you can usually find them for a bit cheaper than rugers, though imho Ruger is worth the little bit of extra money just because you will never have to replace them. Colts are expensive as hell, at least all the models that people seem to love (Python, SAA, etc). You could probably find a used detective special at around the 600 mark if you looked hard enough, but that's limited in its use to pretty much a defensive/cc handgun. A 4 inch gp100 can pretty much cover all the bases, a decent shot can take it hunting, it's fine for home defense, and if you're willing to dress for it, it can make a decent ccw. Maybe I'm just too much of a gp100 fanboy, but I really think it's an ideal revolver for a reasonable price.

It's okay anon, I'm a GP100 fanboy too.
Savin up for dat Match Champion
>>
NEW Taurus revolvers in that price range are good. As with any revolver the life it lives is all dependant on the owner; used Taurus were bought cheap and treated as such. This is why used Taurus usually are poor. Get a new one and treat it well. Their customer service is good so if you have any problems they will replace it.

You might be able to find a GP100 used under 500. You can definitely find a used SP101 for under five.

Quick question for yall ruger fans who have probably handled both the gp100 and the sp101 in person, What firearm would you recommend for ccw and also being able to enjoyably shoot at the range? I know that the sp101 is much lighter and smaller than the gp, but I haven't seen them in person to compare and see if the gp is unconcealable..
>>
>>29452537
You can definitely conceal a GP100 but it's pretty big for that purpose. Like, borderline uncomfortable.
>>
>>29453480
Im a pretty big guy 6'4 200+ lbs. How do they compare when shooting?
>>
>>29453506

For you.
>>
>>29453506
UUUU

Due to the GP100s size, recoil is negligible. The SP101 will be a bit snappier

>magnum loads don't offer much benefit out of short barrels
When will this meme die? I hear every faggot on the internet parroting this shit. A magnum out of a snubbie is literally going 200 fps faster than a .38 +P, and probably a heavier bullet, too. This translates to huge increase of energy. Fucking kill yourself.
>>
>>29455787
Only downside to snubbie is simply shorter barrel = slightly less accurate but if using for home defence doesn't matter at all not like your trying to hit someone from 40 yds or anything I prefer longer barrels but nothing wrong with a good ol .38 special snub
>>
>>29455762
Where the hell did you find that for 300$

>>29455811
Bought it from my father n law

Model 637 would be alright for basic self defense. Shoots .38 S&W Special +P
