FYI, Drill Presses aren't meant for or build for milling.

You can get a drill press for drilling the depth holes, but use a "cheaper" mill, or get a good router. While a router isn't the best way to do it, it's a lot better than fucking up your drill press

You could get more for your money if you build one, but that's not really what you asked.

Jumping right to a nice rifle isn't like throwing a newbie on a 1000cc motorcycle. If you're a newer shooter, it's not like it's gonna kill you or anything. The worst thing that could happen is you'll get spoiled by a nice trigger and not develop the basics of a good trigger pull, if you don't already have that.

Wouldnt recommend sr556 they are spotty with carrier tilt the older one with square carrier tail's carrier tilt was on and off some gun have it some gun dont. Newer one with rounder tail are better but still some gun get bad tilt wear.

I did research on them soon after they are released i liked their aesthetics thats it fit n finish was good but hefty and design in carrier tail area wasnt good enough.

In longer run DI ar-15 are better than piston.

With $1500 budget i would point you at DD or a gucci build.

You might not get full use out of it at first but as your skill gain you will eventually get the full use. If you find yourself wanting another feature or different part as you look at complete gucci ar you should do a build.

The problem with the M4 is that the shorter barrel necessitates moving the gas port further back which, again, leads to higher pressure and all the problems associated with it. This is in part accounted for by a smaller gas port. But the higher pressure leads to faster erosion making the original problem occur faster. Additionally, the shortening of the stock tube leaves less room for the buffer which had to be shortened to keep the stroke length of the bolt the same as in the M16. As a consequence the lower weight of the shorter buffer moving faster leads to the same extraction problems as before. So it's lost much of the potential of the workaround that was necessary in Vietnam. It's not as bad as back then but it's far away from being up to what a properly designed system could be in terms of reliability.

>handguard is really awkward and short- either you hold it awkwardly by the handguard or around the magwell
>bolt hold open is a joke, requires the force of 1 billion suns burning the energy equivalent of a dozen giga niggers on bath salts

I rate this rifle 0/10.
It's honest to God the worst gun I have ever handled.
Having handled a Crossfire 223/12ga pump action and several Jennings pistols, this is complete and utter SHIT.

The entire rifle is a mess. I'm sitting with it in my hands and I'm having the worst buyer's remorse I ever had.
This trumps the time I bought a .223 rifle thinking it was 1:7 for my 69gr handloads, and turned out to be 1:12.

the ar556 is a $600 budget rifle that is well liked but has a cheap delta ring that breaks easily. that is it's only issue

the sr556 might be one of the worst piston systems for ar15. then again, they're all terrible

I think the overgassing of the 20" carbine would be of much greater magnitude than the undergassing of the 11" middy. BCM et al sell 11.5" middys, which I assume they wouldn't do if they had serious undergas issues. Worst case would be using a lighter buffer on the middy, or a dark matter buffer on the rifle.

It will probably impact your trajectory slightly, but you should still be hitting a man size target out to 300 pretty damn easy. Sight radius shouldn't matter. The only difference between the M4 and M16 for zero on that target is how many clicks you make with the rear sight.

Question gang. I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on my first AR. Like many it's got the traditional front sight, but doesn't come with a rear sight at all. I'm thinking I want to start out with something reasonably nice, but I'd also like to save a buck. To that end I was thinking of picking up a fixed sight rather than a folding sight. I was looking at Troy brand sights, but am totally open to other suggestions. Any advice?

This would not be a rifle that I plan on putting any kind of magnified optic on, and any non-magnified can just be co-witnessed with fixed sights anyways, right?

I recommend a folding sight of some sort that way you can use it however you want. A fixed rear seems like a good idea, until you have to live with a fixed rear or replace it. 'Sides, when it's in the up position you won't know the difference.

On the cheap side you got Magpul MBUS sights, they work fine and have 2 different apertures. As well as milsurp KAC micros and Matechs.

For a bit more you have Troy, MI, and YHM. They all do basically the same thing.

The current consensus on this is that using a carbine length gas system, which was originally designed for a military 11.5" barrel, in conjunction with a legal minimum 16" barrel leaves a longer portion of barrel where the gas isn't getting vented out while the bullet is still traveling through it. This pumps more gas into the receiver. The increased pressure this creates makes the gun cycle "harder," specifically during extraction. Theoretically, this increases wear on components (and probably felt recoil as well).

To abate this, people either suggest going down to 14.5" or going up to a mid/rifle length gas system.

Personally I don't think it's that big of a deal, especially if you're using an H buffer, so if you get a better deal on a 16" and carbine upper I'd go for it.

Well the older doggo somehow busted open her crate by pushing it open and bending it apart (she is not a huge dog, kind of like a sheltie mutt mix) She has retard strength though.
