I liked it. It gave the aliens a critical difference in doctrine that proved to be their undoing.

They had no concept of combined arms.

Infantry were for fighting infantry, vehicles were for fighting vehicles, etc.

The giant walking-gun is clearly not designed to fight infantry. The aliens have no portable anti-vehicle infantry weapons, the drones are completely ineffective at supporting ground troops, and so on.

What you see in the film is the aliens struggling to improvise, due to this flaw in their entire doctrine.

The only thing I hated was the idea that the aliens are doing this for water. It is so fucking retarded to think aliens would find it easier to invade a hostile, nuclear armed world, than it is to just mine comets for water. Today if humans really wanted to we could use Nuclear Pulse Propulsion and travel at .10 the speed of light, which gives us the ability to travel to neighboring solar system in a humans life time. I feel like combat between Earth and The Republic would be interesting.
