While I was cleaning my marlin rifle, I accidentally dropped it off my bench, about an eighteen inch drop onto a metal tray, it landed barrel first.
Is the gun safe to shoot? There's no visible damage, but I've heard about microfractures that can happen in barrels where there's no visible damage but the barrel can explode unexpectedly after being impacted. How do I make sure my gun is still safe to fire?

What model Marlin?
Regardless, I doubt that your barrel has been seriously damaged from an 18 inch drop.

Anyone who tells you anything other than the following words is either uninformed or lying. It doesn't matter who you are or what you do, if you are in the military, you are subject to the UCMJ. That means you afford the courtesies to superior officers of any branch.
Listen and learn.
