I honestly have no idea who made them any more, haven't seen them in years. I think it was from one of those asain island countries, or similar over there.
The ak-74 set is especially hard to find.
I just got a spare set of handguards for my ak-74, then that full set in case I ever get an ak47. This was years back, I was planning pretty far ahead since I still don't have an ak-47 and honestly probably won't use them now anyway. I'd just get a polymer arsenal folder and leave it as-is if I get an ak47 now. IDK if slr rifles even existed when I'd done this.

Thinking about getting:
>Ultimak railed gas tube
>Ultimak lower rail
>Some bakelite magazines
>Hogue grip
>Griffin Armament Comp
>Blue Force AK sling
>T-1
>M300 or P2X single output

I liked the Krebs UFM system but didn't like that I couldn't co-witness it.

Is it really heretical to do this to an AK besides the ultimak and adding a light and red dot? Just wanting to have some fun with this.
>>
>>29354672
Leave off the lower rail, get an RS barrel mount for the light
>>
>>29354695
That was kind of my original idea sans the RS barrel mount, then I started thinking it would be nice to have a VFG on there but I could live without it.

I've been shooting my AR a lot less lately and went back to my AK which I think is my preferred rifle now so I just want to give it some love and make it a little bit nicer. Especially with lights and a red dot because I can't see the irons for shit at night.
>>
>>29354672
>I couldn't co-witness it.

absolute co witness is such a fucking meme. Just do 1/3rd like a normal human being.

>Is it really heretical to do this to an AK besides the ultimak and adding a light and red dot? Just wanting to have some fun with this.

Unless your AK is some rare shit like an all matching Russian type 2, it doesn't matter.

Go nuts
>>
>>29354713
So would you suggest the Krebs over the Ultimak?

I'm already used to 1/3rd cowitness on my AR, but would the Krebs UFM allow for 1/3s?

Does anyone know if you can get a lower 1/3 cowitness with an MRO on an ultimak.

I've seen people say you can't cowitness that red dot, but I don't know if they were just talking about it being absolute.

looking for a basic AKM style ak, in 7.62x39, i was either looking at a 2015 wasr, or maybe going for an amd 63, i understand i would have to have a normal gas block chopped and flared for the amd, and thats no problem i'd like to have major furniture commonalty, so stocks, hand-guards, muzzle brakes, etc or maybe i could go for a DDI ak, since their factory is less than an hour away from me an i could bitch at them if something is wrong, but what bugs me with those, is that they take weird lower handguards, is it a strange bracket? or trunnion? i thought i saw a video were a dude had to dremel a wooden handguard in certain spot to make it fit to the DDI ak47
>>
>>29353330
I'm thinking about doing some similar stuff to my slr107 and had some questions about your build.
What optic are you using? I'm worried about melting a budget red dot with an ultimak. Also do you like the magwell? Thanks.

It has crossed my mind to try sell it because of things I mentioned at the tail end of >>29354632 where I'd probably just get an slr-107 and not use it anyway. I still haven't decided yet.
I paid 50 or 60 for the whole set including butt/pistol grip, and 20 or 30 for a handguard set alone.

havent racked a bolt with the ordinary spring assembly. but this one has no real friction or contact between the spring coils and the edges of the hole on the back of the bolt carrier. its on a milled receiver so that probably also helps with the smoothness.

the front handguard on the moe, is what is throwing me off i think. maybe i was hoping for somthing performance oriented to make me decide.

Thanks for your input my dude
>>
>>29357873
The trigger and hammer pins have notches in them where a spring usually rests that keeps the pins from falling out. If you want to remove the trigger group, that spring is usually pretty difficult to mess with. The plate works the same but it's easier to use.

Read it again, I'm saying you would want to pin it back on, instead of fooling with recreating the dimples by welding or anything like that. Which would still be possible, but it'd be easier to just pin it back on. You'd have two holes in each side but that wouldn't really matter. Maybe you'll start a trend of lightweight skeletonized AK parts.

Are western optics that are appropriate for an AK generally considered superior to competing Russian/slav optics? Or are the latter worth a look?

I love the Obzor. Lightweight, built like a fucking steel brick, and completely battery-less. That was the big selling point for me.

Cons: Sits pretty high up, so forget about that cheek weld. And it's not the cheapest option out there. Not super expensive, but there are more cost effective optics out there if you're looking for something more basic.

Unless you plan on going with a foregrip, get a Magpul handguard or something else rather than a lower handguard rail. Rails are uncomfortable as fuck and all adding panels to them does is make them bulky and annoying. Just get an MLOK mount for the flashlight and stick it on the Zhukov or MOE handguard and you'll be better off.

I think it's wholly dependent on the rifle, but it looks nice on your AK, RN :^

Slav optics look nice but most of them tend to be inferior in quality when compared to the shit you see on American military rifles like ACOGs and Aimpoints. That being said, most Slav optics are a good bit cheaper than Aimpoints and ACOGs.

Some people buy beat-up parts kits and have them assembled without refinishing, maybe onto a receiver that they scuff up with steel wool to match.

>>
>>29360730

Look for one that's blued, I suppose. That type of finish is the easiest to "wear" artificially with steel wool or sandpaper. Or maybe a WASR, because they are parkerized but thinly and unevenly, which makes them halfway to the look you want--at least for the metal.

Does anyone know of some sort of clamp on bayonet lug for neutered Aks? I know about the clamp on Chinese pig sticker ones but I dislike how you need to take off your muzzle device to utilize it.

If you were only to have one AK and have it be your main rifle, would you prefer wood or polymer?
>>
>>29366440
I'd take my SLR-104fr if I had to choose from what I already own. If I could have anything thats been available on the market it'd be one of those old SGL3-95 or whatever with the AK-74M/AK-100 series 5.5mm pin stocks. Properly done polymer, and functional with a cleaning kit hole and about the strong side folding mechanism you can make will ensure that I'd have a rifle to outlast my children that I wouldn't have to worry about the weathering. Also polymer is lighter and since I'd be looking at 5.45x39 it just kinda fits, although there is nothing wrong with wood AK-74 riflez in the least bit, it just rythms like pottery.
>>
>>29366489
I'm only asking because at the time when I bought my AK I wanted wood furniture. Now that I've had it for a few years I'm thinking about swapping it out for polymer. Of course I could keep the wood and refinish it and keep it to put back on later if I wanted.

Just trying to decide if the weight savings and weather resistance is worth swapping out for.
>>
>>29366440
polymer

Depends. I switch my sgl31's polymer furniture to wood on and off to the point where I stopped caring about the paint on the gas tube.

If I could only have one, I'd convert mine to an ak105
>>
>>29366537
the thicker section on the wood near the rear trunnion always gets me

plus wood is higher maintenance IMO

plum polymer all the way
>>
>>29366511
If I had to take an AK to war I'd go with a good polymer set. The quality stuff is just as durable as wood, weather resistant, etc.. And honestly that little but if weight savings puts it on par with any barebones AR.
>>
>>29356689

Agreed. I havent made the purxhase, but am considering getting one. Just dont know what to do about the receiver stabbimg me in the back

>>

>>
>>29366440

pressing against the barrel you can only get them so tight, so not very well.

AK rivet smashed to shit.jpg
150KB, 1382x778px
>>29366599
Look at this for example.

Tail of rivet needs to be lower than the barrel before pressing it in anyway.
>>
>>29366599
If you can easily get a bucking bar to press against the tail of the rivet you can use an air rivet hammer to rivet them in.

You talking front trunnion rivets specifically? Because making a bucking bar to fit in there would be a pain. Probably doable though.

With an air rivet hammer you can smash the fucking shit out of rivets, far less dangerous than using a 20 ton shop press too.
>>
So if going with polymer, is there any reason to avoid Zhukov stuff other than the fact that I can't seem to make up my mind whether I like it in some weird way or it's just disgusting looking?

>>29366665
My idea was mostly to be able to secure the trunnion without the removal of the barrel due to lack of press and wanting to skip the headspacing part.
Also heard about weld builds but have no idea how to weld and no idea how good/bad the idea is to weld the trunnion in place.
I'm now looking into threaded trunnions and barrels because I remember that being a thing.
>>
>>29366692
Building an AK without the right tools won't quite work as planned, as a general rule.
>>
>>29366681
zhukov handguards are pretty meh. Stay away from the stocks, they're pretty mediocre. If you really want polymer along with mounting solutions, get an ak9 handguard
