Should I know or care who this person is? Or acknowledge the bullshit of someone who clearly isn't special operations in any capacity giving advice about what they do?

If there was a "standard" boot in SOCOM it's already been posted in this thread, it's the Salomon Quest GTX 2 4D in green. In the Army it's issued to Group and Batt. In the navy it's issued to teams. Airforce, EOD and other enablers wind up wearing it because they get RFIed with whoever they're attached to.

If there was a runner up it would be Oboz. Merrell haven't been en vogue since people figured out they're shit and won't make it 6 months.

>Proof

I'm not an insecure manchild with a need for validation derived from identifying myself on an otherwise anonymous image board. I'm an actual professional and need neither to brag nor boast about what I do. Let alone prove it to anyone.

Take what I'm saying, or leave it. The guy is full of shit and is regurgitating 5 year old internet information. Even at the end of the day insinuating any one boot is prefered is horse shit since lateral movement is given, and people largely wear what they want. There's just strong preference.

Do whatever you want, just make sure you question the advice of someone who seemingly needs validation from 4chan even though they're "special".
>>
>>29346625
I'm a different anon, friend. But he does have a point. You listen to the content of the posts rather than dickwaving about trips. If I wanted a place where people have verifiable usernames and history I'd go to a normal forum.

Reposting from the previous thread. Starting to piece it all together. I picked up most of it for free. Didn't want to spend a lot, just wanted something I could fuck around with. I still need a radio but I want my license before I choose one. I got ceramics in the mail, but right now it's just lvl 3 soft armor.

The admin and various pouches on the back house my friend's extra Glock mag, two 7.62 10rd mags and a silencer (when atfag niggers gets my shit together). My buddy is rocking a ghillie and complains he doesn't have a vest...

How's it look? Any suggestions? I'm in the market for a hydration bag. Thanks.

2 FN barrels?

What are you doing to them? Trying to chamber and fire 7.62x39 and grenading them?

L1 barrels lasted 15k rounds.

Heavier barreled C1s in Canada lasted 25k.

Also, please tell us more about what branch of the United States military you're in where you're smashing through tens of thousands of rounds in an FN.

My complaint about Salomon 4d gtx was they take forever to dry. The Goretex soaking up the sweat and by the next day when you put them back on it's like slipping your foot in a soggy sponge.

I wouldn't recommend them unless you have something to rotate them with.

>>29346654

I find it slightly hilarious that all the guys on this board sport decked out plate carriers with every gadget imaginable, and yet when you look at the pics of the SAD guys and other SF in theatre they have simple chest rigs / bandolier setups.
>>
>>29346654
IMO:

I hate having shit permanent affixed to the back of a plate carrier. It's a hassle of you wear a ruck and it's a pain to get to in your own (I know the intent is buddy system, but it still sucks to not reach your own gear).

I'd get a Camelbak or other hydration pack that has pouches enough to store the shit currently on your back.

I'm not a fan of anything up in the shoulders, but I don't know what you're putting in there so I dunno enough info.

You should get a battle or duty belt to help organize your pistol, dump pouch, and knife. I'd put pistol mags on that belt instead of carrier.

As always, a first aid kit is only as good as your ability to use it, so make sure it's focused on life threatening medical gear and only the stuff you know how to use.

I'd add a sharpie & notebook tucked away somehow.

>>29346700
1 fell off a mountain about 8 months ago.

The other one had about 30k rounds put through it.

I order a shitton of rounds a month to get sent to my house, when I was stationed in Italy this let a ton of ammo pile up at once.

So I'd go to a nearby backstop and poke holes in paper until I got bored.

We don't actually shoot that much in the Army anymore. My gunner and I only shot about 800 rounds between the 2 of us today.
>>
>>29346749
Depends how you roll. I know a lot of dudes had some gypsy looking setups. Though yeah a million tiny pouches for admin bullshit goes away quick.

Thing is, people in theater have specific roles and requirements for what to carry for their role, whereas people here are making "general purpose" kits and there is definate one upper phenomenon.

seconding the Oboz, dont know about the Salomons, never owned those. I've had the Oboz yellowstone 2 waterproofs. worn them for the past 2 1/2 years everyday, and have no complaints at all. I'm starting to really wear the heel down now, and I'm going to need to get a new pair of boots by june or so. I can take pics if anyone wants of them, they are comfy as fuck, and dont really get hot during the carolina summer.

they, like all boots do benefit from thick socks.

I would gladly buy them again, especially if i could score them for $75 from amazon like i had.

>>
>>29346749
It's all about what your mission requires bro. Thought someone versed on all that SF shit knew this already.
>>29346755
Yea everything on my back is meant for my brother to reach. It's annoying and I'm forcing him to buy his own shit soon.

The grenade pouch houses two mags for a RPR, one of the skinnies has a Glock mag and the last is just there. The admin in the lower back houses maps, dope cards, sharpies, note pads, and electrical tape. I'm an EMT (going for my paramedics next year) so I'm good on the ifak. It's the only thing I know I got right.

My wife got me a 5.11 assaulters belt for my bday so that works alright.
>>

>>
>>29346701
No idea about the 2's.

Expect comfort and durability. It's the most comfortable boot I've ever worn by far. My dad goes through footwear a lot too, and since I got him to switch from merrels to Salomons his shoes have been lasting literally twice as long.

>>29346704
Never personally had this problem, and I've worn mine four seasons for a few years now. And I have pretty sweaty feet. What socks are you wearing? I keep two pairs of wool socks on rotation if I'm going to be wearing them multiple days in a row.
>>
>>29346931
let me clarify:
Everything in that picture I consider a necessity.

>Plate Carrier and Helmet
>Mags
>Sidearm
>Med pouch
>PPE
>Water Source
>single knee pad
>dump pouch
>knife

What isn't simple about my kit exactly?

When I think of simple, I think of your shit being put together well, in other words, not having 3 mags on your chest, five on a battle belt, pistol mags double layering all over rifle mags, two on your back, a fanny pack, etc, shit all over the place where you'll look like a retarded caterpillar if you try to low crawl in it.

Now if you meant simple as in just having a Chicom chest rig and some mags, then yea, it's not simple then.

>>29347406
If I were in a SHTF situation, I'd want a nice roll-up dump pouch.

If you get in a firefight, there can be many reasons why you'd want to quickly leave the area. Why stick around long enough to collect your empty mags? Throw those fuckers in the bag and gtfo. Also, repeatedly dropping your mags on the ground can damage them.

Besides, dump pouches are multifunctional. Suppose you're scavenging for supplies, and your backpack is full.

They wouldn't take me because I have bad eyes. I take training classes and go out innadesert with some buddies and do run and gun exercises to keep my skills up best I can. You don't need to be an enlisted soldier to own gear. You also don't need to have gear to be a solider. A random guy using his pockets and an old musket could still be a soldier. Plus a lot of people in this thread served or are currently serving. I never claim to be military. I just own this stuff and take classes because honestly I think it's fun. My current gear is very...stripped down
I still need shoulder pads and a mag shingle for the pc. I'll put a msm small patch panel for memes on it, and that I'll be it. 3 mags and an Ifak.
2 mags in the belt, with currently an extra gp pouch. I'll want a pistol and 2 pistol mags, and probably move the pouch up to my PC if after a while I still like it.

the only thing in their class, even remotely is Carhardt heavy duty line. the stitching and fabric is strong as fuck. the only problem i have had with mine was the left front pocket where i had accidentally dropped a razor knife with the blade exposed in and it poked a hole in it.

Steel is quite heavy relative to the protection you get. Ceramics tend to trap bullet fragments, while steel can shed them into the neck, arms, and legs.

Steel may be better than nothing, but I would suggest saving for ceramic.

>>
>>29350625
Worse protection, heavier, single curve only. Multihit doesn't work out IRL because the spall gets you, and antispall coatings dont hold up any longer than ceramic plates.

I cannot stress how much of a bad idea steel is. Lvl III is consistently penetrated by m193, and III+ by 22-250 swift. I would rather skip armor and get the mobility and weight reductions

Esapi's with soft armor will take 3 ap 7.62x54r.

Even law enforcement nij lvl iv standalones (because there is a difference in protection) can still take 1 shot of 30-06 ap 100% of the time and a second shot 60% of the time.

For smaller rounds like 5.56? Takes 8 rounds of m855.

A soldier with ESAPIS and soft armor took 27 rounds of 7.62x39 in his front plate unharmed. I didn't save the picture tragically. But understand the difference between what's it rated for and what it can do.

Ceramics are multihit.

Sure, for the first hit or two, but then it's gone and you get secondary frag and spall, which defeats any idea of it being more multihit than ceramic.

... and you clowns advising each other that steel is not sufficient enough protection for playing dress up and taking mirror selfies in gear.

I got the $200 armourwear deal and I don't mind the single curves at all. Fits my chest/back plenty good and sits in the mayflower quite well.

Get the D3CR (or other CR), for added flexibility and 7 mags on the PC, or just stick with 3 mags on the PC?

You know, you make a good point. Planning on getting shot is a loosing strategy.

But I am not a gambling man. I will do anything I can to increase my chance of surviving whatever may happen. So I carry my IFAK, and wear my plates when I shoot, and train to be the best shooter that I can be.

Drop down would be a rigid spacer to lower the holster from my rigger's belt. I don't mind drop legs as much as some people seem to, but they are not my first choice.

I don't mind added weight cause I humped 125lbs of shit all over Afghanistan so for my Bug out kit a few more pounds Wont bother me. And ceramic being multihit might work for pistol calibers but 7.62 splits it
>first hand
It's why I'm considering steel also cost.

>And ceramic being multihit might work for pistol calibers but 7.62 splits it
I mean, ceramic will fail if you put 2 rounds of 7.62x51 ontop of eachother, but will stop 5.56 unlike steel.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSK4U2Poo0k
even stops 7.62x51 AP after being hit
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_IizYI2f5E
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50oVHu06HHY
ceramic is definitely stronger than most people let on.

It's not a bad idea, but consider that rubber bands can shift and move. Worst case scenario, they prevent a mag from seating properly.

Think about some ACE bandage tape. This shit is found in the grody gym bags of laxers worldwide, browe

Seriously though, it's grippy as fuck and if you wrap it a few times (just around the bottom) you've got integrated tape rolls to nibble from. Skateboard tape, on the other hand, seems optimized for a single layer

food for thought

At this point I mostly work independently, picking up contracts with different organizations when they seem like something I'd be interested in. Truth is 99% of the jobs fall into one of three categories: not worth it, too boring, or (much more rarely) too sketchy. I did some work for TC in the past, as well as a few other larger groups. With TC and Academi merging, Constellis controls so much of the industry, and good contracts are becoming harder and harder to get. At this point in the game I'm not really interested in getting into all the Mickey Mouse bullshit that comes with working for/under the larger groups. Too often they prefer to hire 3rd worlders or clowns and pay them shit, then take on 2-3 solid dudes with good backgrounds and expect them to provide credibility to the contract and clean up the inevitable shit storm if anything does go down. I could talk about the state of the industry for hours, but it's too long to post and not something I'd really want to get into with people who aren't even all that familiar with the industry in the first place. I don't want to come off as some kind of self-inflated dick, but contracting is one of those things where you're either in it or you're not, and right now it's not really a place that you want to be. Honestly, most of the good guys I know are all jumping ship.

Im guessing theres no more room for soldiers is what your saying? The Army and marines were my last option but reenlisting into the madness of self inflated cock heads and expectations of being a liberal college social experiment. Police here are forced to be more like social workers than actual peace officers.
>>
>>29356195
Well, in contracting there's no more room for guys who aren't already deep and connected within the industry or coming from a pretty extensive SOF background, they don't want to hire anyone from big Army or Muhreenz. I mean, most grunts will want at least competitive wages to go into a war zone. A lot of the larger groups decided that was too much, and that it was easier to hire 3rd worlders with minimal backgrounds for something silly like 50-100 dollars a day instead of a first world soldier for 300-500 a day which is what most of the grunts as for. You're average grunt isn't that much more effective than a 3rd world soldier when it comes to simple static security, so the larger companies said fuck it, they'd rather hire 3 Romanians to do the job rather than 1 American because they can get the 3 Romanians for less than half the price of the American. Then they'll hire a small handful of guys with legit SOF backgrounds to do the stuff that neither the 3rd worlders or grunts can do to bridge the gap in professionalism and capabilities. Then they sell the team they send as being all fucking bad ass since all the guys on point are hi-speed low-drag mofos, and most of the people paying the contract just assume everyone on the job is some oper8or bad ass.

So now, guys who were just leg infantry guys are getting phased out, and guys with SOF backgrounds have to decide if we want to risk our lives managing a bunch of guys who can't even speak basic English, let alone follow complex directions in English, and have combat training and abilities that are spotty at best. And then the only alternative to working with armatures is to get into all the weird shit that's out there on the market, but that's a whole separate can of worms that I'm not interested in going anywhere near.

I'm pretty tired, haven't slept in 36 hours so my response at this point is probably super incoherent, thank God for spell check or this whole post would probably be unreadable.

You only ned to breathe if you're going to be doing physical activity or shooting in your plate carrier. Shitposting on the boards shouldn't require more than half a breath's capacity and might even help you lose some weight by forcing you to consciously work to take breaths.
