So I'd like to get my hands on a high quality AK, in 7.62x39 with a side rail mount, before they're banned by Hillary.

I've been looking at Arsenal. I live in Arizona so I'm not bound by any assault weapons restrictions or magazine capacity limits like some other states are.

What should I get?

Holy fuck. I didn't even pay attention to that picture on his instagram because I automatically assumed it was a fake 20 rounder that had been shortened. But judging by the way the mag swells out in the back on the bottom, that's a factory 20 rounder.

This fucking skinhead with terrible tattoos and snakebites has a bakelite 20 rounder and on top of that it's the early production fibery bakelite. I'm so fucking upset right now

I'm actually trying to get serious about getting my kits built and projects finished. I had been putting it off under the excuse that building services won't go anywhere, but the parts kits will, so I need to prioritize getting more kits, but my dad gave me a wakeup call when he asked me what I would do if there was another AWB and it became illegal to make new salt weapons. Then I'd have to build them myself off flats in my basement and pretend like I had them all along. But I'd rather a professional do it.

I'm working on the same premise desu. I'd like more kits too, but If the election goes south another AWB becomes a real possibility unfortunately. At least get one order in. You can always call him and add more if need be. It doesn't push you back at all. And lets be honest, you'll have time lol.

Also, I've been meaning to ask why you have a second FSB and GB for your SGL31? Doesn't the SGL have the proper M series FSB and GB? Why get them and not just have the PP dimples milled in the existing ones? Are they different or more accurate for an M build?

Different anon but similar story, already have an SKS so gettng a 47 would be good for ammo compatibility.

I'm not willing to spend a ton right now but in case worse goes to worse, what's a cheap way to own an AK? Should I go for a WASR or maybe a parts kit and have it put together later (should I do it or a gunsmith)? I own mostly milsurp so owning something that doesn't appreciate (unless ban) is sort of different for me.

Interested in something like pic related

The gas block on the SGLs is slightly different from what you see on real AK-74M's in that the front part of where it attaches to the barrel slants down differently. I'm not sure if the gas blocks on the SGL's are civilian market exclusive or if they're just a newer part, but I haven't yet seen them in the wild on military issued rifles. The GB and FSB I have in that picture are takeoffs from a real 74M. There's also the possibility that I could have them attached without ever pinning them, meaning that the pins won't have to be welded over and disguised.
tl;dr autism

I'd take a picture showing the difference but I don't want to open the safe and I'm about to go to sleep, maybe you can tell by this pic. Good question, by the way.

Sounds consistent with what I've read, I may get a WASR. Is it possible to make it East German styled with the folding stock eventually or would I have to work with a different platform?

It's not even tacticool garbage, it's just first-time buyer shit. Buddy of mine had a similar setup when he bought his AK forever ago (Except with a MWI quad rail because the Magpul handguards didn't exist back then). He's got a bunch of cheap shit thrown on his rifle and now wants to act like he's hot shit. Not sure about here in /akg/ but there tends to be a bit of a habit to smack shitters like him down in /arg/, but that's probably because the tripfag conglomerate has more influence on threads over there and communicates much more outside the thread than in the thread.

Nothing wrong with polymer honestly, but acting like putting polymer on an AK makes it infinitely better is just stupid. is 5 thousandths too much from side to side of AK front trunnion to receiver?

I know it's supposed to be flush/even but how much off will 5 thousandths be? Will it even matter? The sights are mounted on the barrel anyway.

5 thou difference, sorry

It's already riveted.

There is a 5 thou difference from one side of front trunnion to the other.

So.. There is a possibility I could be viewing the sights very slightly crooked.

5 thou between 1.25" inches or so, it can't be much angular-wise...

What is the easiest way to replace the front part of the AK, starting from and including the trunnion, with a headspaced kit, without removing the barrel ?
Riveting against the barrel was a bad idea and could cause issues down the road, I'm well aware of this. I believe there must be something I'm missing, I've asked this before, but maybe someone else here has an idea.

hey /akg/ i need some help. For days ive been trying to get the front plunger unstuck from my WASR. No matter how hard I hit, the front sight pin will not budge. What are some other ways I can make a muzzle device become safely attached?
>>
>>29345296
Blue loctite? even some teflon tape will make it not turn out by itself pretty easily, and you'll be able to remove it at will pretty much.
IDK how it'll handle heat if you magdump, but it's hard to imagine you not noticing a loosening brake LONG before it becomes any problem.
I've used teflon tape just to take the wobble out of an ak74 style brake, no issues at all for years.

I'm partial to PK-AS' and Kobras but yeah, its a modern Russian sight so its as durable as any soviet stuff and higher quality and ergonomics. If you haven't bought anything modern russian manufacture, just be prepared that it will be somewhat less sophisticated in manufacturing tech than western gear. Not to say shitty, its just like they are using 10 or 20 year old manufacturing tech to make modern devices. Parts wont be anodized or cerakoted, ect. Still, very nice piece of kit.

Maybe a 1990s Century 5.56mm AK import.

Twenty years ago, East German orange bakelite AK74 mags were cheap as fuck, like four dollars each, cheaper if you bought them a dozen at a time. Our friends at Century were unable to source decent 5.56mm AK mags for their 5.56mm AKs, which got imported in single-stack, thumbhole-sporter form as Klinton Ban rule-beaters, then converted to "ebil" configuration in the US. Century was making a shitty 5.56mm conversion follower that was a copy of a Krebs design and putting it in East German 74 mags and shipping them with the guns. They didn't work worth a shit, of course. But if you see orange bakelite AK74 mags with a sticker on them that says ".223" that's where they came from.
>>
>>29349339
The East Germans used a copy of that wire folder too on late-production folding-stock '74 clones.

The AKT is an all-around better trigger, though the G2 is fine. If you spend the extra money for the AKT, it's totally worth it, and you won't be disappointed.

I took my SLR (with an AKT) out to shoot for the first time. The trigger pull is no heavier than 3.5 pounds without the optional auxiliary spring. It's a dream, and you should get one.

Can I ask you guys a weird question? I'm not trying to start an AK vs whatever thing here, I'm legitimately curious...why the AK? What is it you like about AKs over other rifles?
>>
>>29350485
For me it's not "over other rifles," it's "along with other rifles. For AKs specifically, what appeals to me is the almost Victorian Era, stamped sheet metal and steel forgings raw Industrial-age crudeness, steel and wood designed in an age of stamped sheet metal pistol-caliber SMGs. I appreciate them with the same part of my brain that appreciates other early 20th Century designs.
>>
>>29350485
I find it interesting and more of a challenge to collect. Also love pretty much all guns
>>
>>29350485
So many countries make AKs, so they might all look the same but there are subtle differences that make each AK unique. Because of this there are tons of rare variants, which make them good for collecting.

AKs still have a level of craftsmanship to them. As opposed to other rifles where the parts are all machined, a lot of AKs still require some hand work. Especially with the wood furniture, they can be really beautiful in terms of their construction.

the AK is the type of rifle that you dont care if the finish is scratched, or if there is a nick here or there. They look good when dirty. Also if something stops working? Hit it with a hammer until it works again.

Finally, the AK has an image that just isnt captured by any other rifle. I dunno what it is... recognition? Rebellion? Its just easily recognizable and intimidating rifle.

TL;DR the rifle has an image that few other rifles have managed to capture with its variations, construction, and usability.

>N-PAP

N-PAPs are shit. I don't give a fuck what anyone says. Between N-PAP and WASR, you're much better off getting a WASR. Harder to find an N-PAP that won't fuck you.

O-PAP, on the other hand, is totally worth it and easily compares to a good WASR.

If you want a left side folding stock the SLR is the way to go, if your getting an arsenal try and inspect it in person if you can believe it or not a lot of them will have canted front sights and dealing with arsenal QC is absolutely nonexistent, if you want a fixed stock 74 get the DDI and spend the extra on mags/ammo.

I think they're cool, they have a mystique, they're a challenge to collect because of our rocky relationship with Russia in the past, and all the subtle differences between the different kinds tickles my autism and makes me want to do a clone from each era.

It can be pretty exhausting though

Installed my AKT last night. I'll give my impressions as it seems some people were curious. Definitely an improvement over the G2. The G2 is smooth but you have no idea when it is going to break, which is a pretty bad characteristic for a trigger in my opinion.

The AKT definitely has a decent amount of creep at least in my rifle, but If you pull the trigger firmly and not super slowly it is pretty unnoticeable.

When it came to installation my safety came in contact with the trigger when it was in the fire position. Meaning I could not pull the trigger when the was safety off. This was without putting the roll pin in. I had to file down my safety and part of the trigger to get it to function properly which was not ideal.

Overall it is definitely an upgrade but far from a perfect trigger. I would definitely buy it again as I think the G2 really sucks.

And here's the disconnect vs the way it comes fro ALG.
>Top is stock
>Bottom is the one I modified

With the safety on fire it was getting hung up and not letting the trigger reset, so I was getting hammer follow without modding it.
Not a big deal to me.
I knew it needed fitting to the specific weapon.
>>
>>29351247

Semi. I basically had the same problem as you. The safety tab was just too long and coming in contact with it even when it was on fire.
>>
>>29351325
>>29351329

Oh nvm my trigger didn't have any problem resetting.
>>
>>29351351
Yeah, but it's basically the same deal.
They need fitting in some guns, others they'll just drop in.
The way ALG designed it was so that it could be modified to fit every AK, and work.
Thanks for the info, and your impressions on it.
It really is a great inexpensive upgrade over the G2.
>>
>>29351420

It's a weapon that's hardy, reliable, and has stood the test of time, despite people claiming it's antiquated and obsolete.

But even then, there are definitely a few weapons out there who have this title, and (currently) outstrip the AK in terms of longevity of service. But there's one thing that really continues to draw me to the AK:

It was designed by a man who fought in war, was wounded in combat, and saw firsthand what sorts of horrific casualties an army could encounter if their soldiers lacked firepower. More than anything, he wanted to create a weapon that would save his people, and defend his motherland. His weapon was not forged by some massive corporation with a huge marketing campaign, nor was it a weapon with billions of dollars behind it for research and development.

Maybe I'm romanticizing it a bit, but this is a weapon made by a man who loved his country and his people above all else, and I hope it serves as a weapon in standing armies long after its design's 100th birthday.

>>

>>
>>29352489
It's not necessarily that they have bad QC, it's that when they do let a shit one through, there is zero customer service.
Every single AK manufacturer has dropped lemons on the market.
Arsenal's with severly canted but zeroable sights should not be acceptable in a rifle that costs as much as they do.

>Why the AK

For me, in the beginning when I was an airshitter it was because of STALKER. I had one for so long in that game, well past where I should have ditched it. I wanted to airshit in STALKER style, so I got an AK 'replica' for that. I got to know its curves, and some of its peculiarities. It didn't take long for me to fall in love with the design, then the caliber, etc.

Someone on /k/ asked what style of sword an AK would be. I maintain that the 7.62 AK is the battle-axe among modern swords.

Ok.
So the stamped DDI with Hogue handguards?
The problem is that railed topcover's are inherently bad.
Unless it's hinged on the rear sight block or thereabouts, it will move too much for any real optics mounting.

Your best bet would be an Ultimak gastube for an underfolder.
It's not an ideal mount but it will be better than almost any railed top cover.

Sorry, I can't help more than that.
I don't use optics on my UF because it's just too much of a pain to find something that works well.

Very nice rifle though.
