Hi /k/

I just turned 18, and I was looking to buy my first centerfire rifle. My parental units are allocating me $2000 to pick out any rifle I want, but I have to fill out the paperwork and buy it under my name and info. I was looking at getting an IWI Tavor after holding a few guns at a store today. I don't plan to hunt with it, just use it as a range toy.

Thoughts? Suggestions?
>>
>>29336833
there are some issues with Durrability and the tavor ive heard of, like the charging handle being broken after dropping the rifle on it.

if its a pure range toy, I dont see any reason not to get it.

No reason not to. Go wild.
>>
>>29336833
Well you don't have the option of buying a receiver and then building off that so:

https://danieldefense.com/firearms/mid-length.html?caliber=6&price=2%2C1000&sight_setting=18

any of these, plus mags (pmags or lancer 5AWMs) and ammo.
>>
>>29336833
Arsenal SAM7-SF

or SLR107FR if you got girly arms and want a stamped piece of crap that wont make it thru 3 barrel changes (70k rounds)
>>
>>29336833
>My parental units
Something tells me you're not mature or intelligent enough to shoot guns yet.
>>
>>29336895
Do your homework, Timmy. It's a school night.
>>
>>29336833
You have to own shotgun for 5 years to get centerfire rifle in Modern Russia
>>
Spend 1000 on an AR15 and ammunition

Save the other 1000 for when life gets real for you and your parental units can't afford to fist fuck you with cash anymore senpai
>>
>>29336833
If you can get the new tavor "X95" or whatever they called it go for it. If you get one of the older ones you'll have to replace the trigger unless you like shitty triggers and ejection port cover unless you want a face full of gas.
>>29336902
Dude it's a colloquialism. Calm your shit.
>>
>>29336833
Get an M1 Garand
A boys first rifle should be a .png
>>
>>29336876
No.

I want something semi-automatic, or at the very least in an intermediate cartridge like x39, .243, .223, etc. I have a bolt action CZ 455 I got for my 16th birthday, and it gets a bit tiresome after a long day of shooting. Now that I have marksmanship fundementals down after several years of shooting my CZ and Benelli Nova, I think I want to move to an autoloader.

>>29336902
I'm legally an adult now. :^)

>>29336870
I've heard a lot of issues about the mag release on the Tavor which I'm aware of.

>>29336935
I was thinking about that, but I don't know when it'll hit the market.

Tavor is not a good choice OP.
Sure it looks cool but it not very ergonomic, and people accidentaly hit the mag release all the time.

is 2000$ just your rifle budge or everything?
you will need ammo to feed it so 5.56 or 7.62x39 is a good choice.
you will need mags
sling
optic

I would honestly get a AR
some good brands are
Noveske
Daniel defense
Knights armaments
and many more ofc

Build your own and pick what parts you want and let a gunsmith put it togather 2000$ will give you hell of a AR
>>
>>29336996
Gun alone $2000.

I told my parents that ammo, mags, and accessories would be extra, and they were fine with that. I was looking at a Daniel Defense DDM4V11 LW, and really liked it. Why do people on here not like the DD furniture? It feels hella comfy and real nice.
>>
>>29336833
Get an AR you fucking special snowflake. Spend the other $1000 on ammo, mags, and optics. The hildabeast is coming.
>>
>>29336960
Best bang for buck centerfire rifle on the market that holds its resale value is a Colt 6920. You can even part out what you dont want on it on arfcom, and put those funds towards what you want to add.

I still recommend the SAM7-SF, just because it is stupid reliable, accurate, and ammo is cheap. 7.62x39 also gives a good shoulder thump without it becoming painful. It is about the same recoil as skeet shells out of a benelli nova.

The arsenal will hold value as well, however your potential market size will be smaller if you go to resell.

Keep in mind ammo costs as well as you decide.
7.62x39 = ~.19/rd
5.56 = ~.32
7.62x51 = .65+
.243 = .70+ and no surplus options

B-BUT I WANNA BE A SPESHULL SNOWFLAKE

I wanna keep my theme of special snowflakes going. First gun CZ455, second gun Benelli Nova, third gun Tanfoglio Stock III.

>DD furniture
the rail is pretty heavy from what i've heard

>14.5inch barrel
you can change parts to w/e you like anon
>>
>>29337011
Either wait for the x95 or get the DD. If you can get Wolf Gold ammo, as it's surplus xm193 from Taiwan and not complete shit.
>>
>>29337053
Notice I said "LW" which even with the quadrail is 6 pounds or so.
>>
>>29337057

FAL?
>>

>>

I know absolutely nothing about FALs. The store I went to today did have an IMBEL? FAL which felt pretty nice, but it was beat to shit.

http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2013/12/04/wolf-gold-223-ammo-review/

"Back in 2005 the Pentagon imported 300 million 5.56mm bullets (or rounds, the media frequently confuse the two terms) from Taiwan because the Middle East wars had drained their stockpile. Taiwan produces 400 million rounds each year."

It's common knowledge over on arfcom as well.
>>
>>29337124
I have read the sticky, read it 3 years ago when I first started coming here in fact.
>>
>>29337139
As in what you're interested in buying?
>>
You could get some Galil Micros or Galil ARMs for around $300.
>>
>>29337148
Read the thread.

Intermediate caliber centerfire range toy for around $2000. I'm just perusing my options before I go out and buy one.
>>
>>29337194
I know that, but any intermediate caliber centerfire rifle that you're specifically interested in besides a Tavor?
>>
PTR 91
100 magazines
1000 rounds of ammo

Less magazines if you want an optic
>>
>>29337221
Had a few that caught my eye, but not all of them were available at the store I went to.

>Steyr AUG
>FN FNS2000
>Daewoo K2/AR-100
>Daniel Defense DDM4V11 Pro and Lightweight
>VEPR x39
>DDI 5.45 Stamped rifle
>Century C39v2
>Century C93
>Noveske 18" Rogue Hunter

Those were at the store. Others that I'm interested in but weren't there are pretty much every high-end AR brand, a nice quality FAL, and the Sig MCX.

Sorry for slow post, on my phone and operating on 3 hours of sleep.

>>
>>29337113

they're generally known for having comfy ergos but from what I hear they can be somewhat pricey
>>
>>29337525
Yeah no, I don't think my parents are going to approve of me buying a drill press to build a gun in our garage. Building a gun in my state would be too much of a hassle, and it wouldn't be worth it.

Pic related; centerfire lever-action rifle. This particular one is a "big boy" from their silver series but you can also buy them in brass and steel. They also have many other calibers, make great work-horses, are able to skirt some laws that would make it harder to carry or own other rifles and the company has great customer service. Ruger may be another brand to look at.
