Im looking for some more rare, special snowflake stuff. Van we have a thread about some things that fit the criteria and if anyone has found any tell us about prices, availability, places to look or avoid, ect

Im really interested in getting a luger, but if I cant ill settle for a p38

As with anything else, do your research. A good place to start is Simpson Ltd. Don't have high hopes to pay less than a grand for a functional shooter-grade example. I was lucky enough to find this 1921 DWM Commercial in my LGS for just under $1000 a few years back.

Why would you want a Luger, and what makes it a "special snowflake" if I can find 15 different WWII Lugers on gunbroker right now? And you'd settle for a P38?

If you want special, look for gimmicky/boutique guns. variants of popular guns that were limited runs and .357 Sig are also "special snowflake" guns.

I want a .32 revolver, either a colt pocket positive, police positive or a smith and Wesson hand ejector
I know a few of you guys have some, thoughts on them?
>>

Before you buy either, do your homework /K/omrade. There are books on the Lugers alone that are like a dictionary but at least learn the differences between the major models and what they are supposed to have on them.

The German gun market in the US is rifle with shady guns and people trying to pass on turds. Knowing what belongs where and what is normal can help you from getting ripped off...and also get a great deal. I hung out on Gunboards and the Luger forum before buying my C96, Luger and P38s.

I bought my 1920 commercial .30 Luger for under $500. It is in very nice shape but was missing parts. I knew that the commercial guns did not have the SNs in the same locations as the military guns so I knew was able to get what I needed to keep the gun original. It is now worth double what I paid, easy.

My commercial C96, I got for $485. The old guy sold it as a "parts gun." I found the "$500" part on ebay for under $50 before I picked up the gun and it matches 100%. Same deal, easily doubled my investment and got a nice piece.

Patience, Daniel-son.

I would also recommend replacing the springs on the Luger before you shoot it using the Wolff recoil calibration pack. It took me a month to work up cartridge by changing the springs and chronying the loads that I made. Your average idiot will blissfully beat their Luger to death and then sell it to you. Torrent the AGI gunsmithing video on Lugers. Good info for inspecting them and properly servicing them.
