Huh those trigger guards look weird, not all squared in the rivet area like the normal ones Ive scene. Also I wonder how the Slavs head space and do their builds the bolt and bolt carriers are not with the rifles themselves.

The Russian started using the rounded and clover shaped guard at some point, most saigas have the clover.

Hello /akg/,

I'm so glad to have a reason to post here again. I have been working on specs for a 45-70 AK pistol/SBR thing. The main idea was making a semi-auto bullet thrower that could also throw .410. Second purpose was to make it companion well with a revolver that could shoot the same.

As I went on, I found that a .460 S&W/.410 3" shells (that I believe are actually 2.7~, off the top of my head) would be the best for reliable feeding. And the .460 might work in the various .410 AK magazines that already exist, but I think the relatively short length of the other .45 rounds (Colt, Schofield, ?ACP?) will need magazines of their own, which I think can be made from the same .410 magazines still.

Now I already had a good heap of help from QTD, but I need specific opinions from you all; what AK would be the best base for this, or will it be so cut up that it doesn't matter?

I am currently thinking a x54R Vepr would be best, likely all keeping parts are well able to withstand the pressures of the new rounds, and this one already is used to feeding rimmed rounds. I had of course considered a .410 AK first, but decided they are too lightly built to trust, even if the dimensions are much closer to what I think I'll need.

Now I know people have sorta done this before, in 45-70 only. Pookie from gunnet has had evidence of his attempt removed, but I'd love some advice for this increasingly monumental task. Well monumental to me.

I have access to some of the best gunsmithing equipment in North America.
>>
>>29318302
Glad to hear that.
Happy with the results?
>>
>>29319021
More concisely, what:
>barrel should/can I get that'd work best
>is the minimum barrel length that'd function
>barrel length do you recommend

If any of you think a platform besides the AK would be better, please explain. I did consider an AR, but it does not seem DI style systems work well for semiauto shotguns. It seems a piston is needed to handle the wide pressure variations. Would the AK beable to handle this? .460 S&W straight to .410 000? I would like to not have to fiddle with gas adjustments to make both work, I want to keep the operation simple as fuck.
>>
Is $1200 alright for an Arsenal krinkov in 5.45? I don't expect prices to drop ever, frankly, and it may just be best to get it out of the way.

>>29319021
I would say start with a .410 saiga if for nothing else ideas/stealing parts from it. I'm not familiar with what kind of pressure 45-70 has but im assuming you'll need a thicker barrel then a shotgun.

Maybe steal a 12 ak trunnion and make up the difference in size between.410 and 12 in barrel thickness

>>29319093
Hope mine get here Monday I wanna go shoot.

>>29319131
Yes I paid $1300 for mine and it's cheaper then a 74u kit
>>
>>29319589
Well I am going with the much high pressure .460 S&W which is the rimmed version of .45 Raptor.

Again, the only reason it to get the dual utility of that large .45 and .410.
>>
>>29319589
Hopefully they should.

After a little Googling

If I was going to do it

.410 saiga bolt
Yugo front trunnion
Custom 18" barrel "not sure how duel caliber guns work but for a shotgun it's 18" min"
For the gas system I'd do a rotating two position switch, one for setting .410 and the other .460. (Start with a small gas hole getting bigger till you find what's reliable.
Yugo/RPK style 1.5mm receiver
Saiga .410 mags

Rest of it whatever you like

>kinda like how the judge is 45lc but happens to fit .410

There is absolutely no legal requirements for my barrel length because I am planning to make it a pistol or SBR.

I definitely plan to use a rifled barrel, the toughest I can find and IDGAF that shooting .410 shot out of it ain't some people's idea of ideal.

My questions about barrel length >>29319104 have more to do with functionality. How short can I go with an AK shooting 000 and stil cycle reliably? Does it matter at all?

I am still thinking of this as a 300m rifle at best, like the AK. I know you can actually do more with the .460 and maybe I'll get some glass or even a combonation-creedmoor to take advantage of that, but at the end of the day I only NEED to blast stuff reliably with the bullet rounds at intermediate distances (coyote, maybe some deer), and the .410 is for real close stuff. Snakes, maybe some bird, maybe even some of the coyote that are all up in my business on the farm.

This is a farm/truck gun by the way.

It's a shitty copy, that's why. It's not a legit one that will actually benefit you. I'm actually going to advise you not to bother with a true AK74-style brake and get something made in the current century that works better.

I wanted one too, until I found out there are devices that work better for equal or less money.

>.410 AK
why
>.45-70 AK
why

The .410 shotgun shell is already an answer in search of a question and honest to God I don't know why it exists. It was created to be an extra-challenge "handicap" for really skilled skeet shooters and I'm still astonished that enough such people existed even then to buy enough ammo to justify tooling up to manufacture it. Now? What do you want to do with it, exactly? What is the purpose?

.45-70? I can dig the idea of throwing big blobs of heavy metal from a semiauto rifle but we already have cartridges specifically designed for that. Look into .458 SOCOM and .50 Beowulf. And for cartridges like those, you might possibly even need the extra strength and mass of an RPK type receiver, or even a milled receiver.
>>
>>29321995

I don't have one to look at but IIRC they're forged
>>
>>29319104
The basic sort of concept has been done on other receivers. Tim LaFrance--yes, THAT Tim LaFrance--was converting M1 Carbines to .45 Winchester Mag 25+ years ago. .45 Winchester Magnum is a stretched .45 ACP case with a thicker web, giving .44 Magnum-ish ballistics from various big gas-operated Automag wannabees like the Wildey, back in the 80s, and was supposedly knocking on the door of 2000 fps out of 16" barrels with a 250gr bullet. Which isn't quite 45-70 territory but I sure wouldn't stand in front of it.
>>
>>29322019
You really didn't bother reading at all, but wrote two paragraphs of complaints.

What's wrong witchu?
>>
>>29319021
there is already .410 saiga
>>
>>29322070
Seriously. I'm asking.

What is the purpose for this build? What exactly do you want to do that is best done with a twelve pound semiauto firearm that uses the little pissant .410 shotgun shell? Are you doing industrial sandblasting with using lead pellets, or something?

Somebody explain it to me.
>>
>>29322079
I want to have a gun that shoot .460 S&W, plus all lesser .45s (which is all of them). I also want to be able to put .410 into the same rifle as easily as changing magazines.

The slug options in .410 are terrible compared to even a good .45 Colt, not to mention .454 or .460. I want one gun that can do everything I'd want aroudn the farm without me having to handload all my own ammo. I could easily just go with the standard .45-70 AK builds that have been done and hand load some buckshot/duplex loads into the .45-70 brass, but that's a bitch to have to do all the time, and doesn't let me fool around with all the interesting .410 offerings.

Also, .45-70 and .410 have a very intertwined history and relationship, you should look it up before you say most of what you've said already.

Again, I said that I ended up deciding on .460/3" instead anyway, so why you complaining about 45-70?

>inb4 lol i troll u
>>
>>29322141
Fair enough, I suppose.

I just don't get the appeal of the .410 cartridge. It's questionable on rabbits and squirrels past powder-burn range, and even coyotes deserve something better--something with more power and range that can kill them humanely. I can see a 20 gauge with buckshot or plated lead BB shot as being suited for killing coyotes around the ranch. A .410? Maybe not so much, unless you are typically close enough to bludgeon them to death with it.
>>
>>29322079
>twelve pound
A vepr in 54R with the standard barrel is about 8-9 pounds. I think that an AK built around that but with a shorter (he says he wants pistol/SBR lengths) barrel and much light mags/ammo is going to be fairly light mang.

Infact, hunting handgun calibers are already a good direction for AK pistols. Since the can actually make use of the weight. Combine that with the utility that .410 (and all dem .45 ammo choices), you got a good knock around gun.

I personally get a woody for guns that are unspecialized. Soo this is like crack for my cock.
>>
>>29322070
>What's wrong witchu?

He's a perfect product of modern society: Bitch about what you don't understand.
>>
>>29322192
.410 isn't so bad, especially out of barrels longer than the 3" Judge.

When it comes to rifled barrels and .410, I think people expect it to do the same thing that larger gauge buctshot rounds do in rifled barrels. That is, the cup picks up a spin from the rifling and slings that shot like a mad cunt as soon as it exits the barrel, creating a rapind spread. .410 000 is ball on top of ball, and much more like a duplex round. I'm not saying the rifling doesn't do things to it, but it isn't a death sentence. It does still have a fairly short range of course, but that could be a perk.

you could try to figure out mathematical ratios/complements of 5.45 turrets and 7.62 drop, and where to set the 5.45 turret for a 7.62 100yd zero, and if that is too low, then figuring out how to use the 25m ak47 zero sight in target. but that is too much headache for me bub.

your scope, you gotta apply yourself. Theres a lot of ways to skin a goat, you gotta figure it out for your sheep.

Mine is meant for a 7.62x54r PSL rifle, not a 5.45.

>>29322983
>Theres a lot of ways to skin a goat
I could rough-ass it, like work a 100m or 200m zero and then set the scope a little bit lower.
>>
>>29323016
>then set the scope a little bit lower.
unless you figure out the correlating distance and setting, you will end up with a scope that is zeroed at one distance, with no turret adjustments being accurate.

if thats a 7.62x54r scope on a 7.62x39 rifle, you may have less of a headache.

I'm asking this question out of educated ignorance, I know more about the rifle than I do about putting a scope on it.

Does that matter? I think we're both well aware that the 7.62x39 round is most effective inside of 300m. I don't expect it to do what I want at any distance past that.

On top of that, I'm working with a fixed power scope which has the idiot-friendly common Soviet PSO reticle.

Yup, romanian. I got a few when they were only around 100 bucks each.
I just set a target at 100 and zeroed it like normal, normally the 54r bdc marks on the top turret have followed pretty decently. At least that's the case on the rifles where I have it mounted higher with an actual rpk mount instead of the svd one.
I don't have too much experience on the rpk though, usually I'm using irons.
There's two zeros though, one for folded, one for bi-pod unfolded.

Dear /AKG/

There are some real problems with the /ARG/ threads. Mods have not, for whatever reason, banned some obnoxious trips (who happen to be evading bans atm)

I'm wondering if some if you would like to partake in an /AWG/ - Assault Weapon General thread.

I'm hoping very few trips from /ARG/ will be inclined to follow. They seem satisfied dominating their own shitpile.

Maybe most importantly (muh board culture), this will be a great way to help educate each other about our respective platforms. Knowledge is half the battle amirite?

Lemme know what you think

About 8" and I'm depressing the detent with a small flat-head to make sure it is depressed all the way. That was my first thought, but after several failed attempts, I'm confident the carbon got in the threads and is locking the muzzle device.

I'll try soaking it, thanks for the advice.

I like it, honestly. I know most people say they like whatever bullshit they bought to try not to have buyer's remorse but I honestly think it's comfortable and easier to shoot for me, at least. It'll be swapped out for an M4 stock and Rifle Dynamics adapter soon enough, but the Zhukov guard will stay until I have dosh to throw down on Zenit front guard. (Already have the Zenit brake).

There are a lot of different shops that do Bulgarian builds, and there are different calibers, so you'll have to be more specific. But this will help

I don't think CLP will be good.
It has petroleum distillates in it, that'll dry them out and make them more brittle.
I started using that oil because this guy's write up on restoring bakelite.

http://www.akfiles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=178777

It's what he used, and found to be very effective.
So I tried it, and I became a fast believer.

I've yet to find a mag or grip that needed the full steel wool treatment.
But he also over saturates the bakelite with oil, whereas I just give them a generous wiping with a blue shoptowel.

Then as it soaks in/evaporates over the next few days, hit it again and again until it's not absorbing any more wipe off the excess and reassemble.
Doesn't hurt any acceptance stamps either.

Why are there so many 9x39 Guns? AK-9, AS-Val, VSS, 9A-1, Ots-12(the best looking one to me) seems like just a prototype of course. And they half of them don't look like they take the same magazine (although I don't know why the cant use 47 mags, its the same case yes?)

Just keep reporting. If you think it isn't getting to the right people, or that the janitor/mods are not knowledgeable about the board to know what is and is not OT then goto feedback and submit your concern.

People have actually fixed up their boards before, but it requires more than one or two posters to use the report button when applicable and sometimes it requires a few emails. Just don't be a cunt about anything, nobody wants to help a cunt.

And I don't think you were being a cunt in this post, just naive. Filter and/or Report things that break the rules. Most of your /arg/ friends are breaking more than one.

So I'm gonna ditch my SLR105 in favor of a gun in 7.62.

Is a Draco/M92 a good option with a brace instead of getting a rifle length barrel? I'm having a hard time trying to decide which alternative I'd want to go with.
>>
>>29330221
Why would you do that? And an arsenal for a draco none the less?
>>
>>29330239
5.45 isn't readily available in my area and I think I'd prefer a gun in a more common caliber, especially if I can get one in a pistol/SBR configuration.

is there some special snowflake reason why I should stick with 5.45 over 7.62?

>"Emoji" plush

>>
>>29330221
Nigga what? How much are you trying to get for your SLR-105?
>>
>>29330248
You can easily order the ammo online. It's still cheap and available. I mean seriously, if you buy stuff local you're already making a fool of your self. I mean with politics the way they're going both calibers will be hard to find for a while if ever again (if something gets passed).
>>
>>29330251
I'm thinking $1000 would be a good place to start.

Should I keep it for some reason? besides the fact Arsenal doesn't make them anymore

>>29330262
I can get 7.62 locally for like a cent or two more expensive than online, and I'm all about that instant gratification. That doesn't stop me from buying online if the price is right.

Part of it is the fact I've got my AR15 and 5.56 and 5.45 are pretty comparable rounds. Either consolidating down to one caliber (5.56) or going to a readily available local caliber (7.62) doesn't seem like a terrible idea.

but of course y'all can roast my ass pham if I'm totally wrong and should keep with what I've got
>>
>>29330292

The thing will only increase in value. Sit on a crate of ammunition, preferably 7n6, and just wait a few decades. If you want, sell it then.

/k/omrad you're drunk, keep your Arsenal. Order bulk 5.45 and just stock it up. I have a WASR and I am trying to stock up on 7.62 but I also like to shoot a lot, so I understand what you mean, sometimes I just want to buy a hundred rounds or so around the corner just to go plinking but nobody near me carries 7.62. So I got an SLR-106 because we have an AR and reload 223 anyways, so it just made sense.

and yeah, I love to shoot. I got 500 rounds when I first got the gun and was able to blow thru it all in like two months. I've currently got like 120 rounds.

Sometimes my local Academy gets 5.45 but they want $.31/rd and I have a hard time trying to justify it.

buying in bulk sucks too because I'd rather spend a little bit of money here and there to slowly increase my stock.

this will sound really dumb but should i get the arsenal slr or the century wasr 10? i wanted the plum color but they have the black side folding slr for 999. i'm not sure how often they get restocked. i kinda only want the wasr 10 because i really like the wood furniture, and it's cheaper. i'll pretty much only be using it for indoor range shooting and if the babadook comes in the house.

>>
>>29330467
Both are good choices, for very different reasons.
If you get the WASR, you can spend the remainder you would have spent on the Arsenal on mags and ammo.
If you get the Arsenal, you get a top notch rifle with a factory sidefolder and a lot of room to tacticool it properly (ZenitCo).

Both will serve your purpose of light range duty and dindu protection, so pick whichever one speaks to your tastes.

I only make it to the range once every two or three months. I had three new guns when I shot last Tuesday, only put about 40 rounds through each of them. I also shot my 1911 and A1 clone a bit.

I've got guns that I have not shot in years, I don't think I have shot my M1 carbine for over five. Meanwhile I keep buying mags and ammo and I'm gonna die old and alone and my nieces are going to sell all my shit for a lot less than it's worth.

Both the samefag, tripfriend.
It's your prerogative to do what you want.

You can always make more money, but you can't necessarily buy back guns you've gotten rid of.

New additions to your family whether they're flesh and blood or wood/polymer and steel always cost money, but heirlooms can only be had once.

Tula is the worst 7.62x39 out there. It's serious dogshit. Underpowered, inconsistent, dirty.

Plink with it, whatever. But when you sight the gun in (PROTIP: sight the damn gun in, Google "AK 25/200 battle sight" to get a rundown on the easiest way to do it reliably) make sure you do it with better ammo like Golden Tiger or Silver Bear or even American brass-cased stuff.

Is there not a spring behind the detent pin? You can get those for basically no money and it's pretty easy to knock the FSB pin out with a hammer and punch to fix...

That said, I have a buddy whose muzzle detent plunger was missing for whatever reason. He basically filed metal off his brake until it sat correctly when torqued down as hard as he could. Then he loctited the threads and called it a day.

Personally I would fix the gun but you CAN work around the problem too.

Probably what happened then is the FSB was drilled either too low or crooked and the plunger wasn't hooking the pin like it should.

As a Californian is Atlantic Firearms the only real choice for online orders. Also anyone in San Bernardino know any good FFLs that will do transfers for cheap.

>hurr durr I know you said you wanted the rail riveted on but I couldn't figure out how so I put screws in there

If I wanted screws I'd say I want screws and wouldn't give you the fucking rivets you fudd hack god damn it.
Eh, fuck it, 74MP isn't even era correct for it anyway. Still, he could have at least asked.

Which model of slr104 should I get? Leaning toward the triangle but will it be as viable for 4-500M with irons? It gets my dick hard

i hate people who think screw builds on aks are okay

The poly folder is slightly more comfortable if that's what you're asking, which would help end user accuracy. The mechanical accuracy of the gun won't really be affected by the stock though.

Triangle folder + Bakelite grip + wood handguards is the most ascended form of the SLR-104FR imo

Just go buy another fully automatic all-original krinkov for $250 and start over

I just need to freshen things up a bit, was getting bored with the 74u, so I don't mind all that much. They're pretty cheap here anyway if I ever want to do it right.
Probably should have asked around before I gave it to the guy. The rows and rows of fuddguns in his shop should have warned me.

Triangles are god tier folders. Get a Russian tourniquet for it and you're golden, virtually indistinguishable from a fixed stock.

It's semi, and closer to $400. Still, it's pretty much a token conversion, they might have as well just kept it select fire and told people not to use the setting.

Well last time I checked, you also didn't have $1500 M&P15s and $2700 Daniel Defense rifles.
Say, trade you five mint Tula krinks for an SR15 Mod 1? An SVD for two of them?

Polys are more comfortable
Triangles look cooler

An anon pointed out a few threads ago that it's WAY cheaper and easier to pick up a poly stock on the aftermarket than a triangle, so from that perspective a triangle is a better investment if you're on the fence and want both options.

If you're serious about this then email me

We can work something out

Thanks for the help, I'll do the triangle stock/afghan war look and get the polymer stock to swap. Probably just do an AKT and upgrade the safety with a krebs.
