Old thread's last the bumo limit. Long live the new thread.

I just got this Glock 26 and the guy who sold it to me included an old +2 mag extension. Anyone know who made it or if it's any good? Pic related is the package. All the extension itself says is "Plus 2 9mm/.40S&W". There's no manufacturer mark anywhere.

Bonus question: why are Glock mags such a pain in the ass to disassemble?
>>
>>29263576
>why are Glock mags such a pain in the ass to disassemble?
but they arent
maybe that specific extension is a bitch but normal ones are average difficulty to take apart

They have the stupid little side tabs that require either a clamp or pliers to apply pressure in addition to depressing the little button and sliding the plate off.

That being said, I've seen people drop loaded mags and having the baseplate fly off, letting the contents explode everywhere. I don't see this happening with Glock mags.

>>29263689
>>29263837
Thanks. So Scherer sucks then?

I'll believe it. The only reason I asked to begin with is this extension seems pretty crudely made.

you dont need pliers or anything
just shove a pen or punch thru the hole and yank forwards to remove the floorplate

Should I bother buying a Makarov?(and which make, Dick grips Russian or Polish Black?) they seem pretty great for the price and ammo cost is decent. I own 3 revolvers and a shitty pocket SNP .25 so no real semi auto pistol yet(but have access, for ranges atleast, too a 659/6506 S&W stainless 9mm and a Sig p220 of my dads)

My other choices in that 259-300ish price range is a Star model B(pretty nice but way a ton for only 8-9 round capacity), cost normally 230-300. A Astra Constable .380(think PPK and Taxi Driver), cost 250-350.

Surplus Jericho, 300-385(wanna get one anyway but even if you suggest this one, give your opinions on the others) FEG hi power knock off, don't know much about them but hear good things. Seem too be out of stock on a lot of surplus sites. Or go for a Belgium Hi Power for 435?

Also interested in a Beretta Jetfire fliptop pocket mouse pistol, normally 200-350, also come in .22 short, .22 lr, .25, .32.
>>
>>29263945
>Is buying an AR a good first rifle choice?

Yes. They're the best first rifle, IMO.

>Does anyone have any guides for first rifles, or ARs specifically?

Any stripped lower + a PSA or Del-Ton parts kit. Perfectly adequate for what 99% of people are ever going to use an AR for.

If you can put together a lego set you can put together an AR.
>>

If you'e down with Spanish guns, there is another model on the market. More recent, double stack, and much better sights.

http://www.southernohiogun.com/handguns/surplus-handguns/star-model-30-pistols-9mm.html

Built like a brick shithouse. Downside is spare mags are fuckexpemnsive and spare parts are non existent.
>>
>>29263991
why are you pretending psa is some high standard to live up to?
excluding the fn chf which are actually really good for what you pay

deltons the same level as psa freedom, premium, and the melonited barrels
>>
>>29264037

PSA isn't some high standard. It's upper middle tier that is assembled to milspec with good parts. Have you seen the horror stories about crooked PTAC barrels or the absolutely mad Del Ton BCG issues?
>>
>>29264085
the delton shit bcg issue was resolved ages ago and was one run
if you search back long enough theres plenty of psa shitshows on their own psa branded uppers like midlengths shipped out with carbine gastubes installed various degrees of fsb cant and other horror stories like everything involving their ar 10s or ak

currently both delton and psa have their shit together and are pretty much equal

How effective would .410 dart or flechette rounds be out of a derringer or other short barreled handgun?
Is there a difference between dart and flechette rounds?
Are they even worthwhile for self defense?
>>

They're pretty easy to disassemble.
>>
>>29264527
Well flechettes are shit out of a 12ga, so just imagine their performance from a .410, nevermind out of a handgun.

>Is there a difference between dart and flechette rounds?
No. Americans hate French things and can't pronounce the words so we started calling them "dart" rounds.

>Are they even worthwhile for self defense?
No. They were created to cut through thick brush, which they do OK, but penetration and terminal performance is garbage. There's a reason nobody uses them in any capacity anymore.

you havent met the newer Gen3 and Gen4 mags..... You'll find out soon enough. Glock decided to fuck with Perfection some more, and drove it further down the shitter. They still havent fixed the slight gap from keeping it loaded all the time, but they decide to make it damn near impossible to take off the base plate.

>>29263898
>this extension seems pretty crudely made.
looks like injected molded plastic... what is so crude about it? You gonna complain about those lines on the back of the glock mag that you can catch with your fingernail, or how the numbered holes are not exactly centered with the metal holes?
>>
>>29264860
The only discernible difference between the Model 10 and Model 15 is that the Model 15 has target sights whereas the Model 10 has fixed sights.

It all boils down to if you want target sights or fixed sights.

dont listen to that retard. they are not popular because it is hard to control spread with a choke without fucking up the gun/barrel, and ballistic performance isnt as optimal as a .38 BB. honestly I think it has to do with cost and humane-ness.

>>29264860
In my experience, if they are adjustable you never have to touch them and if they are fixed they need adjustment.

I would prefer to have a Model 15 so I may adjust the sights if I need to, otherwise with the Model 10 you have to test it with different bullet weights to find the right elevation and then you can drift the front blade for windage. Then only use the same ammo or ammo you have also tested for point of aim.

Don't K frames have a problem with .357 Magnum ammunition? It's my understanding that's why the L frame was introduced.
>>
>>29263960
I dont recommend the Beretta Jetfire, had a .25 model that sucked. Only gun I've ever fired where the bullet didnt leave the barrel. Besides that the little switch to flip the top broke (it was brand new when I got it, only had it for a few months before the switch just snapped off). I hate to admit this, because I wanted to love the little .25acp round even though everyone said it was useless. Well, I found its true. Useless, doubt it would pierce a heavy winter coat.

I just bought my first handgun (m&p shield) and it shoots great and everything but im having trouble dropping the mag after shooting. After I fire off that last round and the slide locks back, I can't just eject the mag by pressing the mag release for some reason and it even does that when I lock back the slide when the gun is empty and I still cant drop the mag. It'll eject just a little bit (like 1/16th of an inch) then it just gets stuck there unless you press the mag release a few times or shake the gun while dropping the mag. Any thoughts?

My Glock 30 does that. Both of them. Drives me bonkers. I'm looking for a new carry gun. I could train around it but I would prefer to get a gun that doesn't have that problem.

Maybe look for something taller like a Glock 19. Also look at HKs with the lever-type release, that way you don't even need to change your grip when you release the mag.

Question for /k/+/g/ posters

A buddy of mine from work is getting rid of a Dell Poweredge 2930 4U server with 4x 300GB 14000RPM SCSI drives and Windows Server 2008 preinstalled.

I felt bad just taking it since it's probably worth some money so he said that I can spot him a bit of ammo if I want. Said he was looking for x54r and x39 if I had it.

Would 200rds of x54r (pulled from spam can, still in paper bags) and 140rds of x39 (40rds Tula Steel and 100rds Brass-cased Bulgarian surplus) be a fair trade?

Several questions I am now interested in knowing the answer to, and one question of my own:

Mine first; what is the cheapest HIGHQUALITY 20 round STANAG magazine? Anything I should know about these? Are the curved 20s better or worse than straight (functionally)?

>questions from other thread

1. What's the HOTTEST round that any Mauser C96 pistol chambered? Is there a "upper limit" to how much that design could handle, similar to blowbacks' upper feasible limit?

2. What is the ideal bayonet? Spike or Knife, or something else?

3. Did Ned Kelly leave behind any memoirs or accounts of what it was like wearing his (nearly full body)bulletproof armor? I want to know how able a he was to actually tolerate the impacts, even if they were not penetrating.

I understand the armor was rigid, but you don't get a face full of .303 at nearly point blank without at least some ringing in your ears.

4. What's the legality of a FULLY USA MADE rifle with a removeable stock?

Does it need to be unfireable when stock is removed? Or does it just get classified as some braindead bureaucratic nonsense word that means "gibs unka sambo dat monies" and your personal information for a stamp?

>4. What's the legality of a FULLY USA MADE rifle with a removeable stock?

Nothing illegal about it. You can take an AR's stock off with the push of a button and it's OK.
>>
>>29274414
I mean shooting it with the stock off. I imagine OAL comes into play, and it also applies to folded stocks I bet.
>>
>>29274868
OAL for folding stocks is the measurement with the stock extended.

What has more utility?

A 45-70 gov't with whatever additional rounds it can safely chamber, or a .454 casual lengthened to accept 3" .410 rounds and then whatever else can be safely chambered.

I am making a AK pistol truckgun thing. Must shoot .410 for snakes and general farm shit. Then I want whichever gives me the most utility for standard rounds. Also considering magazine availability.

>>29271362
Yea im planning on testing my mags out with someone at the range I go to . Hopefully Its just the mags
>>
>>29275106
I got mine as a gift, so I don't know, but I would caution you against it. I hate mine now. It pinches my dominant hand pinky during recoil, and releasing the mag is annoying because it catches on my palm and the mag release button pokes into my middle finger on the opposite side, making me have to change my grip significantly to get the stupid mag to drop.

It's also not much smaller than a Glock 21 (if you are hell bent on .45) and even closer in size to a 19, and the 17 in between that. The size difference between the three is even negligible. Also the ammo is cheaper and the mags are higher capacity for no loss in lethality. It's pretty hard to justify the Glock 30 with any real logic besides "I like it."

I know your question wasn't to shit on your choice of sidearm, but I gave my opinion anyway. So there.

Minimum OAL for a rifle is 26" measured with the stock fully extended/unfolded. A pistol is something under 26" with no stock. If your AR is over 26" you can put a VFG on it no problem.

If you have an AR "pistol" that's actually 28" long, it's not a pistol, it's a "firearm", yeah. So you're right, a VFG is fine.

I'm stuck between buying a Mossberg 590A1 and a Mossberg 835 for home defense.

Barrel length is not an issue for me, I could easily maneuver a Barrett around my house (floor plan is pretty open). I like the 835's ability to shoot magnum loads, but I like the heavy barrel and the heat shield appearance on the 590A1.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Reliability, durability, ergonomics and ease of use, recoil control, magazine capacity, accuracy (both mechanical accuracy and accuracy potential), modularity, ease of maintenance, finish, size, weight, etc.

There are a lot of factors, and everyone has a few they value more than others.

You mean 3.5" "super magnum" loads? Because the 590 has a 3" (magnum) chamber already.

You should be loading 2 3/4" cartridges for home defense anyway. Loading mag or supermag ammo is going to hinder you a lot more than help.
>>
>>29284443
Any .22 rifle. Shoot cans, not paper. You get this immediate sense of PING!!1!!!!11 feedback and your whole nervous system lights up. With paper you don't know what you did right or wrong.
>>
>>29284487
Is it legal to shoot cans outside of a range?
I live in florida but I live in a suburb with a pretty small backyard
>>
>>29284443
That's alright, the vast majority of gun owners don't hunt either. For most it's for recreation and/or defense.

I'd say find a local range that rents guns, if possible. Even better, if you know someone who owns guns ask them to take you shooting. Ask around... I didn't think I knew anyone who owned guns instead I started talking about it, suddenly a bunch of family and friends revealed they were gun owners.

Also, read up on gun safety and watch a gun of YouTube videos. It might seem weird but YouTube is a FANTASTIC resource for learning about guns. You can find everythig from basics on how to operate guns and gun safety, to in depth reviews of specific models, to advanced gunsmithing videos and everything in between. YouTube has a massive community of gun owners and there's just endless content.
>>
>>29284487
Also this. Buy a .22 rifle or pistol, your choice, and just start shooting. Get yourself use to it. There's nothing wrong with shooting paper but shooting cans is a lot more satisfying.

>>29284513
You can generally shoot anywhere it isn't prohibited. If you live in a city or town it's almost guaranteed that there's an ordinance against discharging firearms. Look for local ranges or public land where shooting is allowed. Eg. Where I live in Michigan there's a public outdoor gravel pit that's used as a shooting range and totally free. Join some FL gun forums and ask where you can go shoot. Also might as well brush up on local laws there.
>>
>>29284513
No idea what your local laws are, but there are ranges that allow reactive targets.

Sometimes my Remington 11-48 will cycle but the next shell won't make it into the chamber, leading to the bolt getting stuck on the shell. This is such a stupid fucking idea and I wish people would stop saying it.

.45 does not suppress better. It's louder than 9mm. When people say this they mean "most .45 ammo is subsonic by default" which really doesn't mean a damn thing. There's tons of subsonic 9mm commonly available and it's quieter than .45 is. And cheaper. And just as effective.

So I say get 9mm.

That's what I meant, doest the extractor snap over the edge of the cartridge after it goes into the barrel chamber. If the barrel was big enough, it would just push the whole thing down the barrel.

I have a 36 and swapping to aftermarket mag bases was a must. I sent it into glock because it was jamming a ton and they but the factory plates back on and I was super annoyed.

I use the Pearce +0 plates on all 5 mags and the pinching issue is now non existent.

Why glock can't figure out decent mag plates is beyond me. Also tried their +2 factory mags for the 26, and they were weak sauce compared to the Pearce and schrere mag plates I have.
>>

>Are Scherer extensions at least reliable
Yes. I have a Glock 26 and can't shoot it without the pinky extender. It's also never jammed the gun or fallen off. The 1 or 2 extra rounds is nice.

So /k/, got a hypothetical scenario in mind. Let's say a fella lived in Chicago, which as all little children know has an Assault Weapons Ban, and was stuck there for at least another couple months. Let's further say he saw an armslist post for a private sale for a rifle that was quite illegal under the terms of the Chicago AWB. Could he buy it? Would it help if he had a storage unit in Indiana and kept it there? Would he be an idiot for even thinking about it? I hear that many Cook County gun owners ignore the ban, but that's also not the sort of thing you can ask without being all "greetings, fellow law-abiding gun owners."

>>29299312
Mainly because the only people who really, really want it repealed are anonymous weirdos like us. If you're not a gun guy you don't care. If you are a gun guy but have enough money for full-auto, you also don't much care. And once you get rid of full-auto, most gun owners aren't moved to legislative action over SBRs and so on.

Having said that, there is a bill in committee now to take suppressors off the NFA list, which would matter for essentially all shooters.

>>29299677
As semiautos go, Ruger 10/22 has best aftermarket and greatest customization potential, Marlins are cheaper and most accurate out of the box. Most of the rest are either shit (Mossberg) or more expensive than most people want for babby's first raifu (CZ). I personally went with Marlin 795LTR and an Appleseed shoot, since buying the tech-sights and sling bundled with the rifle is cheaper than buying them separately.

There are people who have hundreds of thousands, in some cases millions, tied up in NFA stuff whose value would plummet overnight if the NFA got repealed. They don't want any legalization of NFA stuff thus.

Cool, good to know. Kinda worried about the seller asking to take a look at drivers' license, seeing the Cook County address, buyer says "yeah yeah but I have a storage unit!", seller goes all pic related.
>>
>>29299844
I switched from 25 to 50. When you zero at 25 and shoot for 100, you have to aim like 10 inches low, but if you sight at 50 and shoot 100 you only have to aim like 3 inches low, and if you sight for 50 and shoot 25 you just aim an inch or two high.

Does ammunition expire?

Ive been wanting to get into reloading, but wanted to stockpile powder, bullets, and casings. Then making about 10,000 rounds for eaxh caliber I shoot.

Then I want a separate stock pile of 2,000 for reach round i shoot.

The first stockpile to sit on for emergency food.
The second stockpile for actual use (target practice and hunting/defense)

But I dont want to spend all that money on food thats gonna expire when i need it.
>>
What's the relationship between Firearms Policy Coalition and Firearms Policy Foundation, and are they good? Also, which should I join, CGF or CRPA?
>>
>>29300329
>Does ammunition expire?
Not really. I've fired surplus ammo from as early as the 50s reliably, the Korean 30-06 ammo that used to be around. But also I've had 8mm mauser ammo that were duds every 3 rounds almost. It depends on how it is stored. Keep your ammo inside and dry.
>>
>>29300702
>>29300329
What actually fails? The primers I assume. Is there anything a reloader can do to keep their rounds extra long-lasting? Aside from storage conditions.
>>
>>29300702
So top shelf in case of floods, and whats the best storage option?

Wood crates sound like it would absorb incoming moisture, which soumds good unless its a shit ton of water. But wood also warps so the tolerances would be constantly shifting.

Metal ammo boxes dont seem water proof in appearance, but would do the complete opposite of wood, which might be good long term. Are there any better alternatives? Maybe an upscaled vacumsealed jar that is used for drugs? But vacuum sealing live ammunition doesnt sound safe.

Its humid year round here so Idk if that makes a difference.
>>
>>29300329
I have nugget food from1946 on clips that I don't shoot that much (only because its the dirtiest ammo iv ever shot) but it shoots just fine when i do. Just seal it up real good in an ammo can and it will be fine.
>>
>>29300717
Also would like to know this.. Except i would've assumed the powder got moist and duddy like a wet firework or a bic lighter you left in the wash

But my question is: can i store my mags fully loaded forever? Or at least until i need to use them? Or will that make the spring decide its comfy where its at, and effectively make them useless?
>>
>>29300777
Learn how springs work.

The load isn't great enough, or even near it to pre-warp the spring into failure.

Most people's solution to the non existent problem you're worried about is to only load twenty eight cartridges in thirty rounds and eighteen in twenties, etc. Usually one or two rounds deloaded.

Don't bother doing it with pistols.

saving springs is not the reason people download mags.
people load ar mags -2 to make inserting a mag on a closed bolt easy.
some people have trouble locking in a full usgi mag in with the bolt forwards

yes, if youre worried, just do what I did till I got used to my nugget, take an extra shirt or towel and fold it up and put it on your shoulder. proper stance and holding it correctly is also very important. don't leave a gap between the butt and your shoulder, also don't place the butt too high or low, as it will hurt. after about 100 or so rounds, youll likely get used to it.

The only failure I've ever had with my AR was when I loaded a USGI to 30, left it loaded for several months, and then loaded it into my AR. The AR was also a bit dirty and not been lubed in awhile. I've never had an issue before with this gun, but I'd never used this mag before too.

I don't know exactly what caused it, I listed all the important variables though. What happened was the bolt failed to load the round all the way forward, had to manually (with muh fingas) remove the rather roughed up round. Second round fed fine.

I really need to just test the mag again, but I don't have time.

Just my scale though. I really dig the original Augs with the fixed sights and would definitely get one over the Bren. I have a.22lr upper for my AR, I want to know if I can put an airsoft tacticool muzzle break with QD suppressor on it. The thread is the same, but the break is made of T6061 alu, not steel. I really like the idea of having a QD suppressor on a .22lr but real ones go up to $800, and it's only a .22!

In my country suppressors are legal and practical for nocturnal pest control.

Why not just get a pistol one, do you even really need the stock for the ranges you be shooting? I already think of it as an oversized pistol just because of the caliber and typical barrel size for operationally operational models.

Also the ATF can't just backtrack on that sig-brace letter. We have to stand up for ourselves and fight that legally. Retro-active legislation is not something to be done lightly.

The .45 is still gonna be the top performing round, since your have a constant subsonic speed as a limiting factor for both rounds. .45 ACP rounds can provide more ft-lbs than 9mm can just because of its greater potential weight.

Does a suppressor do anything to make the round more accurate than it would otherwise be?

I want to do pic related basically, I will be shooting the same subsonic .45 eh see pee with the suppressor on and off. I was assuming that the length might have something of a satabilizing affect like some additional barrel would.

It isn't a deal breaker either way, just would be nice to get more of the potential out of this pistol.

Suppressors aren't as rigidly attached to barrels in the same way an extended barrel is literally a solid extension. So it's the same accuracy at best and way downhill from there.

>>29313035
>and way downhill from there
Are you suggesting a suppressor can make a firearm, with otherwise the same variables (ammo, etc) less accurate?

Secondly, barrel extensions are a fucking thing? Why don't we see more "carbine conversion" survival bull barrels for popular pistols then?
>>
>>29313067
>Are you suggesting a suppressor can make a firearm, with otherwise the same variables (ammo, etc) less accurate?
It can. Maybe the suppressor is mounted perfectly for the first few shots, but then loosens up a little and starts walking. Now your accuracy is shit.

>Secondly, barrel extensions are a fucking thing?
I meant it more in a rifle sense. Like a full length barrel will be more accurate than it's SBR version at certain ranges.
