Is 'stoping power' a meme?
>>
>>29208498
It means nothing. There is no measurable "stopping power."
>>
>>29208498
sure
>>
>>29208498
i'd say Porsche is more of a meme at this point
>>
>>29208517
Fairly sure that the energy transduced upon impact is stopping power
>>
>>29208498
From what I understand "stopping power" translates into how reliably a caliber size will make someone stop any attack. Though originally I think it refered it how well a round could stop large game from charging.
>>
If a grizzly is charging you would you rather have .22lr or .44 mag?

Yes, stopping power exists.

Tumbling and bullet design can increase stopping power. For example, hard cast bullets with a large frontal meplat have better stopping power than jacketed bullets because they are less likely to deflect off bones.
>>
>>29208563
don't think you know what "transduced" means

A 12 gauge slug has stopping power
>>
>>29208498
stopping power is a meme

joules of energy are not a meme
>>
>>29208498
It exists. The meme is that it exists in <.44 mag handgun calibers.

This

.357 magnum is the most effective round against humans. 44 magnum over penetrates and less energy is transferred to the human.
Other than that this statement is correct. In real life situations shot placement is 10x more important than whether you are shooting 9mm, 40s&w, 45acp or 10mm.

yes capacity an reliability matters more
>>

And shot placement
>>
>>29208498
Mostly, yeah. Sure, a .45ACP will hit a hell of a lot harder than a 9mm but if I pop you in the shoulder with a .45 and you put a 9mm into my left eye socket then I'm going to be absolutely fucking dead, especially if you have JHP or frangible loads.

There's a trade-off though, smaller rounds perform better (.17 HMR has glorious ballistics) and are far, far easier to carry but large rounds are more forgiving with shot placement simply because there's more "stuff" there that's tumbling and splitting apart and making a big wound cavity. If you gave me a choice of a .22LR or a 10mm Auto and sent me up against a meth tweaker with a machete I'd leave the varmint plinker and go with something I know will fuck Cletus up.

i was talking specifically the firearm but yeah that too
>>
>>29208498
In handguns unless you are talking <9mm and have a decent hollow point, yes.

In rifles it doesn't matter either. If you get shot with any rifle caliber it'll fuck your life up,

If you're not over half a meter, you're playing with airsoft
>>
>>29208899
They make .44 Magnum Glaser slugs, that's 100% energy dump with no over-penetration at all. Question is does it penetrate enough? I think a .44 Magnum's just raw fucking energy is going to be enough to completely fuck up a guy even if it doesn't blow his lungs out his eyeballs or whatever so penetration really isn't a big issue unless we're dealing with steel plates and if that's the case it won't penetrate anyway. Soft armor? 9mm rounds will bust ribs, a .44 magnum could kill somebody from BFT alone.
