Most of the time they are coated in bedliner. Sometimes the bedliner is used to hold and bond a layer or two of kevlar mat, but it's obvious that it wasn't here.

I like the way you think, but no. It's an anti-spalling coating; Bullet fragments can still ruin your day pretty badly.

No it doesn't explode, no it isn't in any way like reactive armor.

The bullet forms a dent, violently, in the steel behind the coating. The coating lets go and falls off. Because AR500 plates suck and are for poor people with no sense who don't need them and will never actually wear them.

The steel almost certainly doesn't dent if it's real AR500. what happens is the bullet hits the plate and splashes, which cuts/scrapes the rubber off the face of the plate.

still worried about the fragments, i whant to gift a pair of plates for a friend, he lives in Mexico in police forces, and bcz its Mexipoor i dont think they will provide with a top tier equipment, thinking in something in a plate with layers of kevlar or layers of polymer, dont know if the ceramic will do it the work, because are more "fragile" but dont think she will end doing rambo shit or anything.

any suggestion? and i can just mail it? or she must order based in any laws or regulations i think dunno. tnx
