So my GF went gun shopping with her dad. She knows jack shit about guns, but I didn't know if her dad knew anything.

They call me after shopping, and my GF asks if I want a free 9mm. Of course, I say yes.
"Ok. We got one called a hi-point for you."

She got a sig sauer p938. Her dad bought himself a glock.

Is he trying to kill me? Is the 'hi points explode' thing a meme? I'm going to be polite and accept the gift, but should i ever shoot the thing? I do not currently own a handgun, so I was really excited, but I don't want to lose a hand to Jamal's first ghetto blaster.
>>
it won't explode. it's a hi-point, it will just run. nothing fancy, i'm not sure how picky they are with ammo if it all, but it will just run.

it's a moped gun.

also, even if somehow manage to break it, hi-point will fix or replace, almost no questions asked.

It'll run.

>dad goes out of his way to get you a gun
>you bitch about it

grow up child. My dad doesn't know shit about guns and bought me a Taurus judge because some dick of a clerk swindled him into getting a "shotgun revolver" and I fucking love it. Its a present and worse case scenario you trade it for something else. At least the dad knows what hes doing, they could have all come home with hi points and he must like you enough to get you a free gun

Hi-Points work, some people swear by them. They tend to be reliable, wouldn't carry hollow points with it though until you did some research on what brand it likes best.

This.

They get a bad rep for being the stereotypical Saturday Night Special gun, but there's nothing really wrong with them. They fill a specific market segment that some people look down on.

A friend of mine bought one, and just for shits and giggles decided to not ever clean it and see how long it took to fail. Other than some FTFs during the break in, he didn't start having problems until about 6 months and a few hundred rounds later.

Are you going to hand it down to your kids/grandkids? Probably not, but that's not what they're for.

Well this is certainly different that what I've heard before. All I'd heard was that Hi-Points were death traps. This included from the two people I asked IRL. Sometimes I forget they are morons. Great guys, but morons. Not that I'm any better, considering I got all my Hi-Point info from /k/.

Thanks for more info. So long as it's not a hazard, it'll be great to have a handgun finally.

>>29161134
Easy bruh. I'm very happy for a free gun, but I was worried perhaps he got sold a shit tier nigger blaster without knowing. Since it appears it's just a no frills cheap gun and not a grenade, it'll be great and we'll all go shooting together now that it's not fucking freezing.

there are worse ways to waste money honestly. i wouldnt even consider it cheaping out, more like an expensive joke

Hi-Points are legit. Good, cheap shooting irons, and great for people who need to protect their homes but can't afford anything else. The dangerous guns are made by Ring of Fire companies like Jennings, Raven and Lorcin. They're in the $50-$75 range and are prone to discharges due to mechanical failures.

This is fact. Bryco jennings, raven arms, jiminez, they keep using the same damn stamps and not making anything any more reliable.

the hi point is the gun least vulnerable to exploding
it's like holding a brick
a brick that shoots things
you can also hit people upside the head with it

OP you're basically the typical millennial retard who sees a bunch of memes and thinks that they're great substitutes for facts and research.

Hi Points have a 100% transferable lifetime warranty. They might not have the best (or any) QC but if you get a shit gun, they'll replace it or the faulty part at cost.

I feel sorry for your gf.
>>
its a free gun
>>
>>29161058
I've never even heard anyone say Hi-Points explode. They have many negatives, but being fragile is not one of them. They're actually hilariously over built.

>Is the 'hi points explode' thing a meme?
Yes and no, the ejector is the firing pin so you aren't supposed to cycle live ammo through it because the ejector is the firing pin.
It's not going to explode on its own. Hell, you're supposed to use stronger ammo to get it to cycle.

Use 124gr or heavier ammo, +P when possible, and don't cycle live ammo. Thank your girlfriend's dad for the gift.
