Not at all. The gun in the movie was a .32 or something, but its described in the film and book as some custom little pinhead micro caliber. The pen barrel wasn't rifled either, so IRL it would be a point blank sort of gun.

Would it work very well? Definitely not. It likely need to be a tiny caliber that doesn't produce a lot of pressure so that you could have the gun be so cobbled together.

Also, while pure gold does have many properties that make it desirable in a projectile (basically for the same reasons as lead), they are in no way significant enough to make it more deadly than a lead slug of the same size.
