What is the average physical fitness level of a first time US army recruit before training?
>>
>>28860186
probably average

A jelly doughnut?
>>
>>28860186
Skinnyfat dude who can probably do 30 odd pushups and like 50 sit ups and runs a 9 minute mile.
>>
>>28860405
This.

Either a skinnyfat guy who can pass the PT tests but not by much, or fatties who joined for the benefits who have to shed weight the entire time and barely past the PT tests by the end

There's always those one or two really fit guys who just do really well

Women are almost always weak and worthless, and if they're black, they're also fat
>>
>>28860405
I'm a skinnyfat dude who can only do five pushups.

Can do something like 120 situps, although my abdomen will feel like jelly afterward.
>>
>>28861021
so true.

especially the last line
>>
>>28860186
my OSUT consisted of 6'2" sasquatch man who could not, for his life, do ONE honest pushup. he could do these weird floppy crossfit pushups but the drill sgts didnt take that shit for the PT tests, gone within a couple weeks, shouldnt have made it past recruiting station.

If the recruiting station was a real fucking establishment, they offer pre-shipping get togethers to do some military PT and basic board question / basic knowlege stuff

I'd say >75% people who enlist likely exceed the PT "Standard"

probably 65-75% of that 75% will handle fort benning and move on. almost all basic training failures or retrains are due to cracked bones, overworked joints or tendons because this was likely the first real work they'd ever done in their lives. EVERY permanent brokedick in my OSUT platoon was an 18 yr old fresh outa mommy's basement weeb
>>
>>28861058
Do more pushups, then.

About 1/2 that of the average marine recruit.
Army recruiters basically get the leftovers, from what I was told.

Why is it so hard for Muhreens to believe that people actually choose to join the Army over their precious Marine Corps?

When i was in OSUT half the of recruits didnt realize the infantry standards were higher than for pogs
They were all just fit enough to barley make it past the pog standards

Not only were they weak but missing homework as well

Literally what he said. You think you're just off at 9pm, 11pm? Gotta finish writing shit, reading, cleaning, getting ready for tomorrow.
>>
>>28861473

Literally all the marines have going for them is the prestige of being filled with the hardest of hard-asses and this attracts a lot of meat-heads. The marine cult mentality creates a lot of friction in other branches which is why other branches are wary of accepting former marines into their ranks, especially the air force.

Pretty average. Surprisingly, so is OCS.

There's a guy in my company who failed his PT test because he ran two miles in 25 minutes. I wish I made that up.
>>
>>28862157
it's not called "running" at that point, though.
I feel like I could bear crawl a mile as fast as he runs one
>>
>>28862157
sounds like a typical national guard unit tßh
>>
>>28862174
Think of the airborne shuffle. Now slow it down. That pace was still faster then his.

And he wanted to branch into armor.
>>
>>28862182
Funny enough he and I are both guard.
>>
>>28862197
I noticed the guard charge big time from when I went in (2002) to when I left (2008). Used to be nearly every soldier passed. By the end, that was the minority. Everyone deployed downrange, stopped caring when they got back, and got fat waiting for discharge.

I'm not even in the military, but why the fuck are marines so damn obnoxious? Everytime I hang out with someone who joined, "Umma Muhreen" is something they can't stop saying. They won't shut the fuck up about how badass they think they are and must make absolutely sure they could beat up anyone in the room or are the most fit person around or some stupid shit like that. Seriously, shut the fuck up. No one gives a shit.
>>
>>28862500
Because they didn't accomplish shit before they became a marine. Similar to how people passed basic and will repost military memes on Facebook.
>>
You didn't spend 13 weeks of hell to mould you from a raw civilian to a modern day spartan. It's literally impossible to explain to you in terms you could understand.
>>
>>28860186
before? shit. after basic? shit again. welcome to the army where we lowered the standard and are politically correct.
>>
>>28860186
idk about army
but muhreen recruits need to do at least 5 pull ups, 50 crunches in 2 minutes and run a mile and a half in under 13 1/2 minutes.
>>
They normally do a PT test, but in my case I showed them my reddit karma and post history on ARFCOM, and they actually let me skip basic altogether for knowing so much about weapons. YMMV.

It literally doesn't matter.

My entire life I've never been able to do more than 20 push ups. To this day it's true, decades later.

One day dad caught me doing ninja shit in my room and suddenly I'm going to AMA Taekwando classes.

After a few belts our instructor had us do push ups. Any time someone stopped he motivated them. He kinda focused on me because I was the oldest in the class, shortly thereafter I went to the adults classes because I was getting too big to spar with younger students.

Point is, having someone yelling in my face caused me to crank out one hundred fucking push ups.

I'm a skinny skellington and if a motivator can make me do a hundred push ups, a motivator can make a fatty do 30.

In a side note, sparring with little kids... those guys are FUCKERS. They are SO fucking fast you can't hit them. But after a few minutes of sparring you'll land a hit and they start crying and you feel bad ;_;
>>
>>28862723
No, its just you getting smoked. maybe the first time your lanky bald ass gets screamed at by three grown men inches from your face you'll be a bit freaked out. After that though its all just moto.
>>
>>28862584

>modern day Spartan

America should recruit those child soldiers in Africa that make it to military age, then.

If you want a modern day Spartan, that's literally the closest you'll ever get.

Sparta was a shithole anyways. The slaves ALWAYS rebelled, the food was widely known to be absolutely HORRIBLE, and best as I can tell, with the amount of actual work their civilization required to function, they only kept slaves for the hell of it. To train children etc.

>Not understanding that push ups are all about power to weight

Its easier for auschwitz mode skeletons to do push ups than it is for fat fucks, as both have roughly the same level of muscle in their chest and arms, but they're both pushing different weights.
>>
>>28863079

I thought it was about momentum.

If I had to do SLOW push ups I'd have probably crapped out before 30-40 if someone was in my face.

But it wasn't like that and I was allowed to basically bounce up and down. I didn't use my knees though.

Just momentum. I don't understand how it helped because there's no momentum there, but.... it was momentum.

Kinda like after a big game where Michael Jordan dominated, a guy asked him how he did it and he said "it was like the goal was as big as an ocean and there was no way I could miss", or so the story goes.
>>
>>28862157

>two miles in 25 minutes

Jesus H. Christ, and I thought I was bad.
>>
>>28860186
Pretty abysmal.

Of the guys I shipped with I could do twice as many pushups as the next best guy and I could only do ~40 (correctly), none of us could do better than a 7 minute 1 mile/16 minute 2 mile, and almost all of us were at least somewhat overweight (except the one meth head from Tennessee who only had 5 teeth and ended up med-sep'd because 2 of them abscessed in the first 3 weeks).

Hell we had one outright fat, older white 'rican (guy was 31) who couldn't do a SINGLE SITUP nor could he even come close to doing a pushup (halfway down and flop, wouldn't even attempt to go back up).

Started with 231 guys in my company, graduated 115 and recycled 32, rest were perma-sep's (would've graduated more but had a bout of bona fide pneumonia hit us because Benning in January)

>there 3 years, despite being on a deadman profile was the only one to pass a PT test ever
>filed formal complaints with IG several dozen times, no fucks given if they're not AD
3 years and not a single officer ever took a PT test yet had a file folder full of 275+ score PT cards conveniently signed by a same-rank officer in another unit. Had one Captain that was every bit of 360lbs, only like 6'0", and got winded walking from his car to the drill hall and had a 340 PT score on file. I doubt it was even physically possible for him to do a correct pushup with the 10" of gut overhang he had.
>>
>>28863079
>>28863652
Leverage matters a whole hell of a lot too. Your body is literally a fulcrum in a correct pushup position.

That 5'5" manlet that looks like a leprechaun complete with beer gut can crank out 200 correct pushups in 2 minutes, yet a 6'3" guy who looks like Tony Jaa couldn't do 100 in the same time frame, because he's moving the same amount of weight further and having to use a wider range of muscle(s).

Can any USAnons do a comparison of high school sports strength and speed training (I.e. Football/baseball/basketball), and Army basic?
Is that a good prep system for infantry basic?
I'm an arm chair fudd operator but I see videos of enlisted infantry and their training and think to myself "holy shit, that would have been awesome when I was 18"
>>
>>28862584
Is that how long marine training is? Not infantry training surely?
>>
>>28860186
In the 90's the USMC was experiencing an unacceptably high attrition rate in Boot Camp that was attributed to poor fitness of incoming recruits.
>>
>>28862809
I went through Army MP AIT with a platoon sized group of Marines that had just finished Boot Camp.
They couldn't keep up with us the first week. In fairness, they were accustomed to a different fitness regimen. We rarely did pull-ups in the course of Army basic. But we did push-ups all day long. The first day the Marines showed up it was apparent that their push-up game was weak. They also weren't accustomed to the amount of running we were doing. Then again, the Army training company right next door to us did about 25% of the PT we did.

In terms of soldiering - they were nothing special.
>>
>>28862500
They are literally the garbage unit. Less than pawns in a Chess game. But you can't have your garbage unit know they are worthless chaff. So you drill into their minds that they are the ultimate badass and all that semper-fudge bullshit so they do what they're told
