Its really not all that different from the lower 48. Here in South Central Alaska Winters are actually pretty mild and the last few years have had very little snow. Much less than most of the northern states. Day to day essentials are not really all that bad but housing is expensive for the most part.

Depends which region of Alaska, its a big fucking place. The Southern part is mostly California now. The Northern part is still pretty rural, the city Fairbanks is small but large enough to have just about everything you NEED. Otherwise you'll go bored to tears if you aren't an outdoors person or a Hasguns.

Damn, Alaska looks beautiful. I would love to there one day but I don't know about living there. I'm a Nodak so temperature isn't a bother but I don't like how little sunlight we get here during the winter so I would hate Alaskan winters. That and I like North Dakota.

You must have moved up after 2011 or so, because before then we usually had about 5 feet of snow each winter, with -40 F for the month of January.

But these last 3 winters have been freakishly mild and really easy to get through.

The housing is only pricey if you rent apartments or dry cabins alone. Otherwise git friends and rent a house split 3 ways its only 400 bucks.

I've lived in Palmer for twenty years. I don't think I've ever seen -40F locally. As far as snow, we did used to get more it seemed. Still plenty of snow if you drive up toward Cantwell though.
