So does that plane have wheel hidden somewhere else? Or does it just have to balance like a pro when landing?
>>28491512
Wheels on takeoff, balance like a pro with spotters helping on landing.
>>28491525
Jesus, what plane is that, and what purpose could such a design serve?
>>28491512
No other wheels, that's why they need the chase car to help the pilot with landing them.
>>28491548
>he doesn't recognize the U-2

>>28489595
I've only ever seen pictures of this. Pretty awesome.
>>28491548
That's a U-2 Dragon lady, they're very high altitude recon/spy planes.
Difficulty in landing stems from having to make compromises in design for functionality. The lighter it is, the further/higher it can loiter. Not to mention that the fuselage doesn't have any other areas to mount more wheels. It is ultimately a very very stretched F-104. Sucks, but it comes with the job.
>>28491595
They also rival a B-1 in terms of how fuck loud they are when they take off.

If you can do x15 zoom and see a F-2 this sharp from 80m it's all fine and dandy but in no case more useful than a radar.
>>28489853
math time /k/. how long would it take for a string of det cord running from New York to LA to burn across that distance?
>>28494563
It's just for missile detection and 360 degree situational awareness (detect hot objects from 100km and cue the EOTS or radar to check it out, etc). The EOTS is the one that provides the sharp image that lets you count the number of windows on a building from 100km away.
>>28494578
well det cord burns at 4 miles per second and NY to LA is 2,448 miles ( 3940 Km) so it would take (aprox) 10 min
>>28489876
That's not a missile, that's a 2.75'' rocket. Although, I am not sure if they are these new guided ones or not. From what I remember, only operational one is from a Turkish company called Roketsan.

Dear lord, didn't we do some sort of Geneva convention thing against mine laying?
>>28495978
US (and a couple of other nations) haven't ratified those parts of the Geneva convention. US allies sometimes call for US fighters / bombers when they want cluster munitions used.
I always thought it would be cool to go to space, but I think it would also be really cool to fly the SR71 or the U2
>>28495920
That's actually pretty ingenious

It had something to do with the mines being active years after being laid and causing problems to civilians
>>28496031
SERGEI YOU DRUNK DONT FALL OFF TONK
>>28488971
what ship is this actually? I mean the one launching the rocket
>>28496015
The U-2's actually quite hard to fly (operationally), to where they have to use autopilot to keep it in up that high. Essentially they fly so high and have such high aspect ratio wings that:
If they increase their airspeed by 2%, they'll get buffeting from some airflow going supersonic over their wings and lose lift.
If they fly 2% slower, they'll stall.

Just watching that WEBM and knowing the airforce needs chase cars to help them land, I think that would be really cool. Wasn't the Blackbird better as far as flying went?
>>28496042
Now the mines and cluster muniotions the US uses (at least) have self destruct timers rendering them useless after a certain amount of time.

Face it, the krauts didn't learn a damn thing from WW2 where their super advanced Panzers and fighters were still getting BTFO by mass produced allied "garbage". It doesn't matter what you make if you don't have the capability to mass produce it and simplify it enough to make idiot proof.
Typical German mentality - Soviets have an ultra cheap, near indestructible and very effective infantry weapon? Better design a special snowflake meme gun that only we will use because fuck logistics, right?

That's in it's magical 3 round burst mode.
There are army field test videos demonstrating it.
It's similar to the AN94's system where all projectiles leave the barrel before the recoil of the first round is felt. Like the AN94, the rate of fire in this mode is very fast. In regular full retard, it's slowed down to a more reasonable ROF

And I say this because most companies are too concerned with public image when it comes to helping a war effort.

we no longer have the place thay used to make and process the raw material
the steel mills of pittsburgh and bethlehem arent just closed, they've been leveled and turned into overpriced condos for millenials.
the coal and coke plants that fired the steel furnaces are all gone, left rotting and turned into places for urbexers to enjoy
the railroads that carried the coal and steel have been turned into bike trails
and the mines that filled the railroad cars are caved in and filled with orange water.
most importantly though, the men who scraped the insides of the earth and serviced and ran the locomotives and fire the coke ovens and poured the ingots are all dead or dying
we've lost before we even concieved of firing a shot.
>>28499206
I know that feel bro
I use joystick, and I love it because it gives great immersion, more control in the direction of your plane, and smoother feel overall. What I didn't get was well optimized joystick control from warthunder, mouse users literally EVERYWHERE, "realistic" battles having England vs america or etc, and LA-5's that outclass EVERY GERMAN PLANE in literally everything. The main issue is just no sense of achievement through unlocking planes. I personally don't mind having them all from the get go.
>>28500107
It's not the campaign, its just the lack of a new graphical system, and the difficulty to get multiplayer up and running or finding anyone playing multiplayer at all
>>28499742
Think of it with this in mind: Brazil's only thing that they have which gives them any sort of pride is their soccer, and they just got destroyed more hard than any soccer team ever has in the world cup.

is it possible to get one of these? damn

Wonder why they need to chase it down with a car, they do this with the B-52 as well.

I think your anger is making you say some incorrect things. File your shit down man.
Also, american got it right a million years ago with the AR18, if pistons are your thing. I like DI because it does reduce apparent recoil, fite me.

did that second shot hit? looks like it hit the ground
that shouldnt happen on a supposedly modern MBT

Not exactly - they get a square of infrared footage that appears in their vision with about the size of a 32" TV, 1m in front of them (the display has a 40x30 degree FOV). So unfortunately it doesn't give them infrared peripheral vision, etc, but doing that with next to zero latency, while keeping the helmet light and also making it work over the the curved and transparent helmet visor in day and night is a bit beyond the current state of the art.

As the pilot of an AF C-130, taking off toward obstacles is the most fun part of my day.
>>28500650
The U2 chase car is on the radio telling the pilot how far off the ground he is, the air force only has a few U2s and they're not going to get anything to replace it so they're very careful about letting somebody smack one in.
>>28501158
how does being drunk that make it a legit shoot?
1. the guy almost certainty wasn't a threat
2. the officer gives no warning
3. you don't usually shoot drunk drivers
4. the officer had no way of confirming if the guy was drunk
that was almost certainty an unreasonable amount of force the officer used
pic related: reasonable use of force
>>28501158
>drunk drivers must be shot on sight
While I agree DUI is a serious offense, I do not believe cops should go full-on Judge Dredd on their asses.
>>28501200
So the US still needs an high altitude recon plane, even with the state of satellites now ?
And so, did they ditched the SR71 only because of its cost compared to the U2 ?
>>28500298
AND it was held IN BRAZIL
Brazil was super cocky and arrogant all season and then Germany completely destroyed them right at their home turf during the semifinals.
>>28501258
satellites have an orbit that is more or less fixed. This means that they can only look at one area for a certain period of time and that they are predictable.
Planes don't have that problem, although drones like the Global Hawk are now taking over the U2's job.

>The game marked a number of tournament records. Germany's win marked the largest margin of victory in a FIFA World Cup semi-final. The game saw Germany overtake Brazil as the highest scoring team in World Cup tournament history and become the first team to reach eight World Cup Finals. Miroslav Klose scored his 16th career World Cup goal and surpassed Brazil's own Ronaldo as the tournament's all-time record goalscorer. Brazil's loss broke their 62-match home unbeaten streak in competitive matches going back to Copa America 1975 (to Peru 1-3) and equaled their biggest margin of defeat, a 6–0 loss to Uruguay in 1920. Ultimately, the match was described as a national humiliation.
>>28492515
I want to fly one of these things...
>>28501258
Satellites have fixed orbits and have every government agency vying for sensor time due to their capabilities. If the air force wants a picture of something right now, and also in two hours, and an hour after that, they send a plane because it's an asset that the air force specifically controls and nobody can tell them that they can or can't use it right now. The U2 will probably go away as RPAs become more prevalent, it's mostly still here because it offers a few unique capabilities but mainly because it's always easier to get funding for programs and airframes you already have then to get something new.
>>28501319
As a side note, Global Hawk is being delayed / pushed away by the USAF, mainly because over the decades it's been in use, there's been a ton of payloads / sensor suites that have been developed for the U-2. Those sensors can't fit directly to the RQ-4 due to size limits, so until someone else (the Navy with the MQ-4C) pays for equivalent sensors to be integrated, they're keeping the U-2 around.

>Get in accident
>climbing out of the wreckage of my car
>cop shoots and paralyzes me
>gets paid leave and no charges
And I'm not joking, there were no charges and he did get paid leave
What blows my mind about all of this is in reading the thing, it said his shooting was "Unintentional" and "Possibly negligent" but not "Criminal"
What the fuck is unintentional about drawing your gun, aiming it, and firing at a man? What isn't negligent about shooting a man and paralyzing him "by accident" ?
What's worse is bootlickers will defend this
>>28501169
Yes, but in context it just gets worse
>spoiler: he doesn't call the shooting into dispatch and spends 5 minutes looking for the casing instead of helping the dude he shot

>>28502240
IIRC dude just killed the passenger of the truck and another bystander, based cop killshitted him and he totally deserved it. I'd really like to see some real source, though.
>>28496121
Source? I was in a few years ago and they wouldn't let us call in ICM unless it was all they had left/we were absolutely fucked. They didn't tell us shit about self destruct timers on the bomblets.
>>28502749
No self destruct on ICMs. They're supposed to explode more or less immediately. There are a percentage that don't, but are still live that humanitarian organizations freak out over, because kids will find and play with them. Most scatterable mines are set to have remote or timed detonation as well as pressure.
