There would have been battles like the one in the video. Base assaults were a thing. It was very rare that they happened during the day, though. Often they started with infiltrating pioneer units to clear minefields, etc, with very strong recon, and often under artillery cover.

The NVA was a very competant force on the whole. Organisationally experienced, and highly commited. Not as technologically advanced as the US, but they had what they needed to succede. Obviously organisationally they had excellent fieldcraft, even if individuals varied. They'd also make heavy use of infiltrators disguised amongst the local population, except in some cases like against the ANZACs, that banned all Vietnamese from a wide border around their bases.

Vietnam showcased quite a wide variety of battles and encounter types. Not a lot of armour, or wide open manuver battles, but just about everything else, including urban fights. Helicopter mounted TOW missile teams hunting tanks had it's origins in Vietnam as well.
