is there anything wrong with the tank they built for Indiana Jones and the last crusade?
>>
We're it a WWI tank, no. It's a pre-WWII tank though, so pretty undergunned and underprotected compared to all but training tanks.
>>
>>28364242
>>28364306
It looks oddly sexy.

I view it as a modified ww1 surplus tank used by a german expedition, not top of the line stuff.
>>
>>28364242
This is obviously the Leman Russ battle tank, so nothing wrong with it
>>
>>28364333
Thing is, it didn't belong to the Germans, it was the private military toy of the Shiek they bribed in the movie.
>>
Why the fuk did they even want a tank out in the middle of bumfuck nowhere anyway?
>>
>That fucking massive, unarmored, driver viewport
>No bow-mounted MG or coaxial
Just run up and chuck a grenade in there.
>>
>>28364993
To defend the convoy in the event it comes under attack by hostile guerrillas. You know, exactly what happens in the movie.
>>
>>28364982
Even better.

Yes.

For one thing: the huge engine is in the middle.

For another this also means the turret is directly above the drivers seat.

Also its weirdly fast for some reason.

>>28365254
its fast cause its a movie
in the directors commentary they were saying it was slow as shit and they had to have the horses run slower
>>
Is that tank an actual model, or was it movie specific
>>
>>28364242
It needed an oil change and the AC needed a top off of freon.
>>
>>28365344
Its a mock-up of a Mk. VIII made out of a excavator with a turret
>>
>>28365279
It does look kinda like the TOG I
>>
>>28365239

Lolwat.

>>28365272

Except for the slab sides, massive viewing port, tiny gun and lack of a commander's cupola. Sure. If you squint.
>>
Still better than the fake tiger in Saving Private Ryan
>>
>>28364242
Ironically if it was up armored a bit and slightly modernized (turning it into a more practical and squat looking 40k Leman Russ) it would probably fare better than 99% of tanks used in urban combat today.

Hell, with some modernized armor and vision systems a T-35 would do pretty well in a urban environment.
>>
>>28364969

>>
>>28364242
Needs coax machine guns for the sponsons and main gun not to mention a forward hull machine gun, besides that tank is fine.

At least they accurately depicted the fact that WW2 heavy tanks were absurdly loud and and vibrated the ground (espically on rough ground) so much that they were difficult to walk near.

Many of the pictures you see of the Maus while it was being tested show backdrops of buildings with shattered windows, ruined streets and cracked foundations. Those places were undamaged before it drove down the street, it it was within 100 meters of a window it shattered them via engine vibration, especially in areas with lots of stone or brick windows.

In the posted image that isn't rubble on the ground, it's cobblestones that were vibrated out of the road surface. If they had actually built one of those planned 1000 ton land cruisers they would have had to be assembled outside of any major urban areas and could not be shifted to a new from simply because moving through a built up are would have caused more damage than a large scale bombing raid.

What?

It's a copy of a British MkVIII with s fictional turret added. A few real MKVIIIs are in museums. While there's nothing really wrong with the main tank, I suspect that crew compartment isn't nearly as large as depicted in the film, where's the engine?

>>28365937
It's entirely fictional in shape, though the Germans had many designs which would have inspired it.
>>
>>28365814
I mean yeah, you can heavily scrutinize it, I was just thinking that might've been the designer's thought process when he was designing it.

Some of the early jets the Germans invented had detachable wheels. As in the wheels were ejected after take off and the jet landed like a glider. New wheels obviously had to be attached prior to the next take off.

>You know how ze Panzer I has a tiny turret?
>Ja, is cute. why?
>Let's add one in front of the IV's turret and another behind it
>Oh yes, and don't forget to change the suspension type to a more complicated design and pack 6 people into it without changing the armor
It really does seem like a pointless design. Apparently it wasn't much of a success; only five were built as a result. Of these 5, 3 are suspected to have been destroyed in combat in June 1941 while the others were scrapped sometime in 1942. Krupp and Rheinmetall both built their own versions of the NbFz, with the main distinction being that the Krupp turret had the 37mm to the left of the 75mm while the Rheinmetall placed the 37mm above the 75mm.

Machkorps 34.AA an.

It's in German, translation coming up in the next post.

Well yeah. TL;DR, they attacked some BT tanks, managed to set one on fire and tried hitting Captain Penetsenko's (whose memoirs these are) BT, before being shot by KV-2 tanks. Their 152mm guns destroyed both tanks completely.

Yes. Mainly considering the terrain hes fighting in is unsuited for that type of tank. On top of that its an outdated model even for that time and even THEN the amount of repairs needed in that type of climate would be ungodly and sure to give anyone a fairly tough time finding the parts to repair if need be.
