Its based on the Lewis automatic rifle, which Bethesda did a shit tier job implementing it into the lore of FO4. It just feels so clunky and out of place. They could have done so much more with a gun called the "Assault Rifle" Pretty much take any gun from Battlefield 2142 and call it the Assault rifle. 1000% better. Instead they tried to go for the steampunk/vintage look and implement a shitty water cooled lmg from WWII to be used in a post apocalyptic game that takes place in 228X.
>>
>>28355006

>>
>>28355039
You literally didn't address any of the design flaws and instead just argued that the nomenclature is incorrect.
Which is stupid. Considering it fires an intermediary cartridge, is automatic, and is meant to be carried by a single person, it is an Assault Rifle whether the game says it is or not. Putting a fucking water jacket, AA sites, and an silly tube on an assault rifle is absolutely retarded.
>>
>>28355056
I never had any trouble sniping with the cowboy repeater, even with 15 gun skill. Have you even taken into account that the problem might not be the gun, but its owners arms?

>>
>>28355006
>depending on which barrel you choose
That's the problem right there.
They didn't choose the barrel, you gargantuan hyperfaggot.
In the Lewis gun, the radiator and it's shroud are concentric with the barrel, to ensure airflow from all directions.
In the Maxim gun, the barrel is at the bottom of the water jacket, which ensures that the hot water can be replaced by cool water through simple thermodynamics.

They just slapped the looks together.
Now the front of the rifle is closed.
The back is still open.
Neither system would work.
AND THE AXES OF THE TWO DIFFERENT BARREL DESIGNS DON'T LINE UP.

Many other guns suffer from glitchy reloading, misaligned sights or sight glitches that obscure aiming, etc.
Posting lies on the internet doesn't win an argument
>>
>>28355022
The massive blocks on the side of the receiver and the grip are very reminiscent of the T44. As intended as an analogue for the FG 42 for airdropped power armour troops, it actually kinda works.
>take any gun from Battlefield 2142
>Instead they tried to go for the steampunk/vintage look
That's kinda how fallout has always looked

>>28355023
The design is still stupid an impractical as fuck, but it actually fits the setting pretty well. Makes sense that instead of developing the M60 the fallout clapistans would have built a gun with a more direct role to the FG 42. What doesn't make sense is why they still called it an assault rifle when fallout already had an assault rifle for its regular troops and why it still fires 5.56 if it's meant for power armoured units.

>>Instead they tried to go for the steampunk/vintage look
>That's kinda how fallout has always looked

Fallout 1-NV had Modern day weapons with sci fi additions such as the laser rifles, 10mm pistol, minigun, chinese assault rifle, fat man, etc.

Fallout 4 has a alternate 10mm pistol, 44 mag, a BAR chambered for .45, a BAR shotgun, and the Lewis automatic rifle monstrosity.

When I play fallout4, all I think about is how terrible logistics must have before the Great War since every gun pretty much uses its own specific ammo
>>
>>28355077
It's not though.

F1 steering wheels genuinely look like that.
>>
>>28355346
the military was by and large using laser weaponry with universal MF Cells and 5.56 rifles, Fallout 4 just fucked everything up
>>
>>28355463
Did they really? It's been well over 200 years since the bombs fell and everyone started crawling out of vaults, so it's pretty understandable that most of those weapons that still function are improvised to work with whatever ammo they could find. They don't have the NCR trading new guns this far out so they have to make do.
>>
>>28355494
A: prewar guns practically didn't fall apart in FO1/2/3/NV. You had entire bunkers full of abandoned military weapons that got dredged up and sold all over the place.
B: There are groups like the Gun Runners making new guns off of old schematics, it wouldn't really be hard for anyone on the West Coast to do the same. Bethesda just forgot that it's been 2 centuries since the bomb fell and has everyone living in garbage dumps shooting zip guns because that's what they think is "cool"
>>
>>28355346
>>28355463
Yeah, Fallout 4 just made things dumb.

It might be able to be handwaved, though, if you assume the "Combat Rifle" you see ingame is some special snowflake thing used by certain specops units, like what the P90 is nowadays, or perhaps some kind of gun that was in common use earlier in the 21st Century, but was phased out in favour of 5.56mm weaponry.

The NCR as portrayed in New Vegas certainly seem to have a more-or-less sensible approach. They have a standard issue rifle that's basically an AR-15 in 5.56mm and a standard issue handgun that's more-or-less a Browning Hi-Power in 9mm. Alternative weapons like coach shotguns and varminting rifles are only issued when there are severe weapons shortages, and even in these cases, it should be noted the typical varminting rifles used in the Mojave are also most commonly found in 5.56mm, so ammo commonality is preserved in those cases.
>>
I actually have a question about the Fallout universe. I know that groups like the NCR, Enclave and Brotherhood of Steel (and possibly the Minutemen and Railroad, depending on what you do in FO4) have access to Vertibirds for aerial transport, and the Brotherhood of Steel have a full-scale armored zeppelin.

But what about ground transport? From what I could tell in Fallout: New Vegas, the NCR still relies on Brahmin caravans to transport materiel into the Mojave. Surely they would have the means to build railroads and locomotives by this point in their history. Or would locomotives be too vulnerable to Brotherhood/raider sabotage?
>>
>>28355044
That I have to agree with. The lack of continuity from the original fallout games is pretty bad. I was disappointed for the 10mm pistol. Since turning into an smg didn't make it look like the 10mm smg from the previous games and such.

Although if I really wanted to I could say the same about a lot of the guns that show up in a different design to the old games designs. The Gauss pistol in Fallout 2 was pretty cool looking. Same with the power fists too.
>>
>>28355518
>Gun Runners
Are out in Cali and had the benefit of having working factories.

You have groups like the Gunners and Brotherhood scout teams scavenging the Commonwealth for some time now getting most of the pre-war tech and, if the Capital Wasteland is any indication, there are no arms factories for them to get schematics from, hence their reliance on pipe guns and jury-rigged laser weapons for the most part.

Vegas also had a vault that was basically its own armory because those guys at Vault Tech are just crazy.
>>
>>28355574
Most vertibirds seen to be ones they looted/captured from the Enclave since neither group had them prior to that.
>>
>>28355272

OH GOD YES I WANNA TEK BOW PLES

The tek bow model from Turok 2 is amazing. It implies that it's a folding taketown bow with 4 points of articulation, so even if it's a 4 foot long bow, it'd fold up to around a foot long.

Ultimate survival bow.

With explosive arrows.

>>
>>28355574
The brotherhood stole the blueprints for vertibirds from Navarro military base w/ the main character in fallout 2 and they use hmmvw and m113 style vehicles in fallout tactics, they also had a giant zeppelin in tactics that was lost due 2 mutants and a crazy commander
>>
>>28355574
They have working trucks in-universe, the problem is that the engine couldn't handle showing them in a way that looked good so they weren't show. An example could be the motorcycle in the singer's apartment in Novac which he rode to the Mojave according to him.
>>
>>28355238
For the Lewis gun to cool the fins needs to be open on both sides of the tube enclosure. One side is capped off on this making it look like it is water cooled, Infact upgrades to this weapon make it look less and less like a lewis and more like something to burn yourself on.

Occam's Razor says the designers just can't design guns for shit. You don't even "make" your own weapons, you just modify them - something you've been able to do in quite a few video games to various extents, see Army of Two. There's nothing indicating how those pipe guns work, no readable schematics or anything.

Granted, but I will guarantee you that some kid in England has already started researching homemade guns after seeing this game. Not that this a bad thing in the least. But yeah.... some people aren't aware that you can actually make a gun in your garage.

Goddamn, Bethesda missed the boat with shovel-framed AKs and garage grease guns.

Except this doesn't happen. After finishing the main story line I decided to cheat and see what its like with every perk. Fun fact, this game was so poory written that the perk screen will drop to well below 10 FPS at 4k with all the perks enabled on a GTX 980.

The Gatling Laser is where it's at for me, especially if you use the skills to upgrade it because it becomes one of the most ammo-efficient guns in the game. Most enemies can only take a few hits from it, you get 500 shots per core, and you look like the Heavy from TF2 carrying that thing around.

Because that 350 year old gun had a short lifespan and never made it into the civilian market while that 300 year old gun is being used 60 years later in real life and there's no reason to suggest it won't be in use for another 50 unless there are major innovations in small arms
>>
>>28357362
No
NV vanilla had 2-3 mods for each weapon that were real sensible upgrades, like extended mags or optics, that were rare to find and could be removed at will and fit the specific niche of the gun, not just the same 6 slots of 3 different options with redundant "good, better, betterest" tiers.

So the Varmint Rifle turned into a decent marksman rifle by late game, or your .357 Magnum could get a quicker action and longer barrel for gunslinging, etc.

What can't you fix with all the mods that already exist?
>>
>>28357610
You shouldn't be paying for legacy content that's already been found dummied out on disc
And it would not be hard for a team of competent artists to come up with visually appealing frankenguns. It's pretty clear the major reason behind the simplified 50s aesthetic was because it let them ditch photorealism and get simpler polygon construction and smoother textures, which is a big issue because FO4 is running on an iterated Morrowind Engine.
In layman's terms, they were too lazy to update their shit.

FO1, 2, NV and 3 had elements of Retrofuturism, but not to 4's degree of "EVERYTHING WAS FIFTIES". That gun wasn't the first one that I had problems with but it's the worst. The first thing that made me realize the games weapon designs were shit is thing is something I will get to later.

Now we have a established universe with established guns including the original assault rifle (FO&FO2) that to me seemed like a hybrid between a BAR and FN FAL but others may disagree. However it did somewhat look like a genuine military rifle from the 50's or early 60's.

Then we had the assault rifle from Fallout 3 that really started to resemble some kind of a assault rifle which seems to have more of G3 feel to it in my honest opinion. Then we had the chinese assault rifle which we all recognized immediately as a artistic version of a Kalashikov style design. Now that one I have no problems with..

Then there's the monstrosity of the FO4 assault rifle where the designers went like: "Fuck the reality! Steampunk is cool so gun design went back to the WW1 because my liberal hipster weenie says that's sexy.. Fuck that..

Now where is it that I first realized nobody in the development team had ever even fired a goddamn gun in their life was this in the pic. See anything out of the fucking ordinary for a rifle for a right handed person. The bolt is on the wrong fucking side!!

One other thing about Retrofuturism:
Fallout's timeline split from ours when the first two atom bombs dropped. They changed course in the 1950s, but the apocalypse happened in 2077. The went through the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s, 20s, 30s, 40, 50s, 60s, and 70s. Over a hundred years AFTER the point of divergence and 60 years in our future.

There is no discernable reason why their guns would look any more like WWI/II weaponry than our modern guns, especially since all first world countries had been embroiled in a Resource War for decades which would fuel weapons development.

It's not nearly as extensive as it should have been.

When they showed the trailers, I thought we'd be able to do shit like mod a 10mm pistol into a damn minigun with time, materials, and perks.

Instead you can only do the "start with a pistol, end up with an assault rifle of bigger caliber" wit hideous pipe weapons.

Fallout is not a game series where I expect realistic guns.

It almost seems like at one point weapon customization was going to be a lot more expansive, and thus you could turn a regular laser rifle into an institute laser rifle and back.

But they cut that because CONSOLES!.

>>28357605
>>28357886
Actually, when you think of it, the Institute weapons are perfect for the people who designed them.
>Mostly science nerds with no firearms or military training who then put it into the hands of experimental robots who started out not terrible articulate
>Institute weapons are designed light and with incredibly low recoil so accuracy can be maintained and carrying them doesn't tire out the user

I also think they're more accurate while having a higher rate of fire.

I must admit, I only use regular laser rifles because I found an Endless magazine one early on and a shitton of fusion cells.

Fun fact. An incomplete model for the Chinese assault rifle exists in Fallout 4's game files. Its labeled "Assault Rifle." And that abomonation, the gun that is CURRENTLY called "Assault Rifle" in game, its labeled "Machine Gun" in the game files.
There was originally going to be an AK style rifle in its place, but it was never finished, so they just took the LMG and made it the "Assault Rifle"

Ways to fix FO4 that involve virtually no money or effort:

1: Be able to purchase/reprogram robots and set them to provide settlement security, labor, repair, provision duty, etc. Also, you should be able to send them into an area you've cleared and have them scavenge for scrap.

2: Bring back the slave hunting side mission from FO3. Have it turn the population of the Wasteland against you, but ally you to the Gunners.

3: No more fucking rain indoors, goddammit.

4: No matter your security level, your settlements still get hit by Raiders. Don't like that? Better get good at defense.

5: Artillery pieces take less than 15 minutes to fire on a target. That slow bullshit basically makes them useless.

6: Raiders use missiles and mini nukes on your turrets. The trade is that you get a ghetto CIWS made up of minigun turrets.

7: You have to build a sensor system and connect it to a computer for turret fire control or else they just sit there.

8: Minefields. That is all.

9: Be able to have a few attack dogs in each settlement. If you align against the Institute, they can sniff out Synth infiltrators.

10: GET RID OF THE RUST ON MY NEWLY PAINTED FUCKING ARMOR FOR FUCK'S SAKE!
>>
>>28363203
While that would make a great mod, IRL the world of fallout isn't that big like to use heavy artillery. It would be nice to have handheld artillery tho, but that one would take between 30-to-120 seconds to reach target

I forgot a few..

11: I can build automated turrets out of old board games and tin cans but I can't mill a rifle receiver? Horseshit. Anything involving energy weapons, missiles or other high tech stuff should require functioning weapons of that type for construction. Want a laser turret? You break down a laser.

12: Smelters. You can't just beat a shit load of cans together into a weapon part. For metalwork, you should have a smelter. It can run off nuke power or whale farts or whatever, but smelting should happen. Skyrim did just fine with it.

13: Only five Vaults? And only two of them had even a remotely interesting back story? Goddamn, I miss the Garys from FO3 and the Boomer Vault from NV. That sort of goofy, weird shit was gold. More Vaults. More weird.

14: Eyebot sentries.

15: pipersuckspipersuckspipersucks.... I want to slam a slave collar on her and sell her mouthy ass.

16: Not one single bad karma companion? Gay.

17: You piss off a faction, that faction raids your shit. I want to see my missile turrets anally violate a Brotherhood patrol.

1. mod already exists. you can also get vertibirds
2. this mod will exist once the Geck gets released. as well as a friendly/joinable gunners faction and more than the one mission about slaving. yes there is a mission about slavery. you can sell a ghoul kid to a gunner merc for a few hundred caps and he gets to spend his near immortal life gathering scrap in rad zones.
3. there is not rain indoors real buildings. not being able to build real buildings in settlement mode is fucking bullshit though. Also not being able to escape rad storms without entering an interior animation cell is another failing/fixable oversight
4. fighting off raiders is fucking boring but not having gunners/supermutants attack you regardless is a failing
5. think tactically. I used Minutemen artillery to absolutely FUCK the brotherhood of steel during the final battle siding with the institute
6. wat
7. high level turrets require external power and the handwave is that you're making FO non minimized electronics from that scrap
8. there are several mine fields in game and you can make mine fields with... get this.. mines. but yes it should be a base defense that goes towards defense rating
9. in the same mod as no1. also you can buy guard dogs in game from a guy and set them to your settlements.
10. if you painted it, why is there rust? also there is already a mod to change the color and logo of combat armor. it's good.
11. fair enough. needing the gun is stupid. there should be a magizine called "rifleman" that has gun schematics to do just this.

17. once you become enemies with a faction and they are always hostile they will attack you/your base. I put a few missile batteries at red rocket truck stop and the BHOS Git rek'd every time they're close

>>
>>28363273

30 seconds is fine. Even 45. The other night I tossed out a smoke grenade just to see what would happen and I had time to take a leak before the first rounds hit. That just sucks.

There are lots of things they could have done differently that wouldn't have cost all that much. Like the missile turrets. I just think they look like shit. Like, what guides them? There are no sensors. They'd be better if they fired upwards on command and the point of impact could be controlled by a handheld designator. Shit, that could even replace those gay artillery pieces entirely, considering that their range is shit to begin with.

Also, the raids are pathetic. I have literally never seen one hit any of my major settlements because the security rating is too high and the Raiders are so shit that even when I am home when a raid hits, they are literally all dead before I can get out to see it. There's always like 5 of them with pipe rifles and the odd assault rifle. I want Gunners and Brotherhood with missiles, miniguns and Vertibirds. And all of these things are in the game already. Nothing new needs to be created other than altering the spawn criteria.

I like the game as a whole, but it shold have been done differently. Building giant mutfruit plantations and deporting all the negros from my other settlements there got old early on.

Damn dude you are fucking retarded

Let it go already
>>
>>28363747

Yeah, I played it. I beat the main quest, set up three maxed out settlements and I'm at 200-something hours.

I just think they executed some parts really poorly. Like they weren't even thinking and when they were, all they were thinking was "What would Obsidian do? Well, let's not do that shit.". Take the reloading bench for example... amazing damned idea. I spend weeks in NV building a stockpile of ammo and reloading supplies. FO4? No reloading bench. I can eat tin cans and shit gun turrets, but I have to haggle a beaner for ammo.

And having factions hostile to you is not the same as having them actively hunting for you. I still remember getting holed up on a cliff with no ammo or stimpacks way out in the desert because The Legion had a hit out on me. Hell, even having Talon Company on your ass was great. FO4? Well, the Brotherhood gets very cross with you and occasionally attacks a checkpoint that some synths are guarding. And you can defend it or not. Nobody cares.

Also, selling one ghoul kid into slavery wasn't what I was talking about. I'm talking about slaving for money. Clean out Goodneighbor, slap everyone in a collar and sell their asses to the Gunners for a profit. Or, sell everybody in Diamond City. Or both. God, you could set up a false settlement beacon and lure in unsuspecting rubes. Or populate your settlements with Raiders.

There were so many missed opportunities. The game is good, but it feels like it's operating at half capacity. I get the DLC angle and all, but it will never have half the story value of FO3 or NV.

It is fun. It’s just not what it could have been.

Let's say you buy a hunting dog. A Lab, or some other retriever. You get this dog and you think "Holy hell, I'm going to have a duck retrieving animal right here!". And then you train him for months and find out that this dog just does not fucking retrieve ducks. You did everything right. Nobody screwed up. The dog just doesn't hunt. Shit is not in the cards. Now, he's a nice dog and you like him just fine. He rolls over, plays fetch, does all the cool doggie stuff that you love. He just doesn't retrieve ducks for shit.

You've got a great dog, but a shit retreiver. So, it's sort of an opportunity missed. What would have been awesome is a dog that retrieved ducks. But hey, he's still a good dog.

That's kind of the vibe people are putting off about FO4. It's not a bad game or an unentertaining game. But it missed some opportunities.

To be fair, just because mods exist to fix things doesn't mean developers shouldn't learn from mods and incorporate them into the base game. bethcuck plz

pretty much 50% of the cutscene "tips" are obviously leftovers from a noticeably different game compared to release.

Getting Reba II by killing some softshell mirelurks, finding your first hottrodder mag in a dead east junk yard, etc. show that the game meant for you to go east, south, west when they designed the map and sidequests. Then someone overtly shit on that logical progression via G3 trailer bullshit.

Do you have a mental disability?

None of what you're saying makes any sense whatsoever.

Bethesda internet defense force plz
>head east from santuary
>find .44 revolver
>a few low level firefights
>find robot disposal yard
>get epic loot and hottrodder mag to do the powerarmor flame paintjob
>head farther east
>gunners in an abandoned overpass
>a raider settlement protected by a partial raider powerarmor suit, fat man, and poor base defenses.
>a bunch of unexplained but interesting dead settlers and such around this area
>downed plane+first introduction to ghouls
>farther east you hit salem
>get reba II from old man after killing dem mirelurks
>head south
>find witchcraft museum
>face your first deathclaw
>head south
>meet supermutants
>potentially do BHOS sidequest after finding a distress beacon
>hit boston
>find goodneighbor first
>npc dialogue tells you about those fags in diamond city
>hey we have a detective bruh
>WHERES SHAWN REEEEEEEE

the map and everything but the main quest was designed around heading east. This is why the game feels so hollow for a large number of people.

You sound extremely confused and/or retarded. Have you been doing drugs?
>>
>>28364861
you sound butthurt that you won't make whatever money bethesda promised you for shitposting
>>
>>28364851
>bridge to Red Rocket
>road into town
>get power armor and then fight first Deathclaw
I didn't go east till hella while later.
>>
>>28364887
>the point

>you head

the game is designed to send you east
the main quest sends you south into supposedly upleveled areas but jk everything is level dependant so you don't get assurt like plebs who wanted to run straight to vegas in FO:NV

because of the G3 trailer of rescuing the minutemen
also known as why the early game sucks so hard

if you head east you find several partial T45 suits, to make a full one, then traveling south from the east you find a full T51 suit north of boston

then depending on how they intended this shit you'd find T60 or get it from the BHOS, or find the XO1 enclave armor at the top of the apartment building.

either that guy/you is an Aussie or his name starts with Todd and ends in Howard.

The game is meant to be played east, south, west m8.

All I did was point out that your posts sound like they were written by a methed-up toddler.

In what way is that evidence that I'm being paid by bethesda to defend their game? This is some next-level autism.

Between turrets and going full second amendment with my settlers, what is the point of traps?

You have to rearm them by repairing them after one use and they take wired power too.
>>
>>28365324
>hurrr
how is my objective opinion of 300 hours of gameplay the results of being a methed up toddler Mr. Howard? The game is good, but meddling fucked it up. It's clear what the game was meant to be/how it was meant to be played but cucks, faggots, and Howard's stuck their dicks into it and suddenly every good thing from the drafting room was cut in favor of a linear story and a ~20 hour main questline.
>>
>>28365366

Listen buddy, I can't even *understand you*, let alone criticize whatever "point" you've just spent the past *three hours* trying to defend, mostly from people who can't even figure out what you're talking about.

Knock it off already. This spergout has gone on long enough.
>>
>>28365441
if you don't understand greentext and english then go back to reddit and shitfuckstan m8

the loading screens, pre release info, and game say you should go east. The quest to ham fistedly make you run into the minuteman and get a powerarmor tutorial sends you south. It shits all over the world the only people in bethesda with thier shit together created.
>>
>>28365441
Idk m8, I understand him well enough. All you've done is sit here and repeatedly post le ebin autism maymay.
>>
>>28364739
How do the bullets feed into the barrels when the projectile goes off? How does the magazine hold the ammunition? How can it hold anything?
>>
>>28354634
Read the text in this picture. It's mean to be used with Power Armor. It's not hard to guess why they needed water-cooling at that point.
>>
>>28354652
The tri-barrel is much more logical, since it's a magazine.
>>
>>28356325
Lasers create a lot of heat at the muzzle.

Chances are that the recoil is a result of small-scale overpressure occurring from the air around the muzzle suddenly being superheated.

Beat me to it.

>>28355871
The larger grips look like they would fit Power Armor better than the starting grips.
>>
>>28355787
It's flipped-around in-game. They probably couldn't animate it, so they decided to flip it over and tweak the Pipe Rifle's magazine change animation to fit.
>>
>>28354616
Machine Pistols exist.
>>
>>28355113
The Chinese AR is actually in the game, albeit untextured and buggy.
