>Synopsis As Introduced
>Urges the courts, especially the United States Supreme Court, to adhere to the clear wording of the Second Amendment being a right afforded to state-sponsored militias and not individuals.

Like the New York Times and the WaPo, like Hillary and Bernie, the authors of this bill know their target audience. Pic related.
>>
It's like people literally want to be murdered by the government

What is the goal of destroying the second amendment? Why are they so eager to take away the one unique freedom that the rest of the world doesn't have? What is the eventual goal? Making people feel "safe"? I wouldn't feel safe in a place where I can't count on other law abiding citizens to use their second amendment rights to protect themselves and others

>>
>>28348558
I did, but it never stops being terrifying.
>>
>>28348398
From the bill:
>rather the Second Amendment's original purpose was to act as a check on federal gun-making policy, not to prevent individual states from creating gun policy as they saw fit
Exactly, and then the 14th amendment was passed and applied that to the states as well. Do these people not know what the 14th amendment is?

The rule of law doesn't apply if you're a progressive Democrat. And they've pretty well captured the party, now. They sure as hell drove me out, and I voted for Al Gore.
>>
Uh I'm pretty sure that the Heller Decision made it very clear
>>
>>28348634
Doesn't mean they won't constantly try and strip people's rights away. The second they get one more left leaning supreme court justice they'll try an take this stuff to an appeal and get shit rewritten. If Hillary is elected also, we could see some radical shit coming up.
>>
>>28348654
Well I don't disagree but the Heller decision made it crystal clear that owning a firearm is an individual right

they can strip and chip away at it, but all this bill is, is nonsense. The supreme court has made their decision regarding whether it's an individual right or not. That was the point I was making
>>
I hope you all are registered republican and are voting in the general.

Laws passed by congress like the NFA, GCA, etc. is one thing, but if there is a court ruling that overturns any of the amendments in the bill of rights there will be an armed insurrection. The fact that any of our politicians would make a bill like this is very worrisome. The fact that the large majority of people could not be bothered to give a shit is even more worrisome. We will be branded as terrorist and extremists, but I would rather die than live as a subject to the state.

I think some of you don't understand this because your not from Illinois. Let me break it down for you how this all works.

Since the 1970's Illinois has been unique. It has handled the issue of firearms on it's own, it issued FOID cards and requirements and the state allowed Towns, Cities, and Counties to set their own laws. This is why we have things like the Chicago handgun ban, or the Aurora assault weapon ban. Since the 70's, the state has always held all the power, they banned all forms of carry, they banned NFA items and silencers.

The federal government didn't give a shit about what Illinois did because it was a state issue. Then something changed recently, and suddenly throughout the country gun bans were struck down by the courts, concealed carry was allowed, and Illinois, who has always been alone and been the big boss of firearms laws stood alone as the last state that forbid concealed carry.

Illinois faught tooth and nail to prevent the courts from forcing them to allow concealed carry and lost horribly. They waited till the last minute to institute a law out of spite.

Since that day, the state has been attacked constantly by gun rights challenges, and is about to loose everything. Soon silencers will be legal. Every local town ban and law is being challenged and overturned.

So, what does this have to do with what I talked about? The state is grasping at straws trying to get it's power back. Nothing more. We should be celebrating such a weak challenge from such a once strong foe as a victory.

My pro gun parents never bought us toy guns because they considered it in bad taste. (they also are very anti-consumerist behavior, so we didn't get a lot of plastic made-in-china toys.)

We took lumber and fashioned our own wooden guns in my dad's shop.

Got good at it too. I had a model 1911, and my brother made a luger. We both made some killer looking tommy guns.

They all broke over time because we pretended the shit out of world war 2 soldiers.

Imagine how triggered libs would be by a 9 year old making a toy gun.

The world needs to witness the might of 100 million gun owners standing up to one of the worlds strongest and most powerful governments running one of the largest militaries.

Nothing could be a better example to all future generations of humans that free armed people can stand up to tyrants.

I've lived nearly my entire life in IL (moved out only the last 2 years), and here is the thing. Cook County (i.e. Chicago) pretty much controls the entire state. If you look at various elections, statewide and nationwide, the entire state is a deep crimson, save for maybe 1 county and cook county, and because of that, the state is deeply blue. And because of this heavily lopsidedness in IL politics, whatever Chicago wants, it pretty much gets.

So it's not really the state at large that is the problem, it is literally all of Chicago's fault. They're the ones that do not hold anyone accountable. Hell, the would have easily voted in Jesse Jackson Jr. again if they could, despite having a laundry list of crimes and bribes committed.

I once went through a huge compilation of school shootings and checked what happened in each one. Literally most of them were stupid kids bringing guns to a school and shooting them on accident in the bathroom. That or just random gun violence that happens to occur on school grounds. There was even one of some drunk college kids in Minnesota plinking late at night, and cops had to break down their door cuz they were too drunk to respond.

>I once went through a huge compilation of school shootings and checked what happened in each one

Hey I did that too. "School shootings" have such a wide definition it's insane. There was one I remember that was a drug deal across the street in the middle of the night going bad and a shot being reported, no one was actually shot but it was counted as a school shooting. They didn't go to the school, they weren't on school grounds, school wasn't in session, their business in the area was in no way related to the school, no one was shot... but it's a school shooting.

The amount of things most people would consider school shooting if they new the specifics of each incident is so low.

If I prize traditional marriage and the civilizing virtues of the Judeo-Christian ethic -- values that have been utterly non-controversial for the entire history of our country, up until the 1960's -- you'll despise me and throw me under the bus. Home Rule is a thing, if you didn't know. Giving the big blue cities the right to do whatever the fuck they pleased within their own states would go a long, long way towards salvaging our current plight. It'd certainly recompense rural red-staters for the power they lost when the Supremes neutered every state senate back in the Sixties. It's okay for the Feds to have checks and balances visa vis the Reps and the Senate, but not you plebs at the state level, they said.

The only problem is the city dwellers hate our fucking guts and will never give up the power they hold.

4% of Americans approved of interracial marriage in 1958. I dunno, man, once you start thinking about how historically weird our views in Current Year are, it seems like kind of an unprincipled exception to say "sociopolitical change and progress until 1784 (or 1860, or 1913, or 1934) were just great, but everything after that was a mistake". I'm not trying to say you're full of shit, understand, I don't know what the correct answer here is. But I think this line of thought about gay marriage produces results that robust gun-toting Western individualists like ourselves ought to find abhorrent. See also: Moldbug and Jim Donald.

Now let's really ruffle some feathers:

Gay marriage is just another nail in the coffin. Marriage as the bedrock of society is already dead.

The REAL legal blow to the idea of marriage as a long-term commitment for raising children came with the widespread acceptance of no-fault divorce in the sixties.

Come at me /k/ommandoes.

That's his thing, though. He shits up threads so he can sit in his chair and soak up the attention. He was raised very, very poorly. He's the kind of guy that loves attention, positive or negative. He doesn't care which. So he goes thread to thread, posting things he KNOWS will get people riled up, then sits there and does a very poor job trolling, so he can get more negative attention.

See, he's a really shitty person. Probably a couple acquaintances, no real friends, family all hates him, even if they pretend not to when he's around. Because of all this, he can't really get positive attention, he just can't do anything worthy of it. But he knows how easy it is to get negative attention, and to his addled brain, it's just as good as positive attention. So he does this shit on /k/, so he can get his little attention boner. That's all there is to it.

To be honest, the decline of marriage is only an issue if you're poor.

Middle class and upper class families continue to raise kids with a healthy respect for education, usually in a household with two parents.

It's the working class that's been experiencing social degeneration. Nobody cares, however, because poor people don't matter.

Here's some fun reading on the economics behind it.

There's a lot of truth to this--Charles Murray and Robert Putnam have been over it recently, one from the libertarian right and one from the New Deal left.

I do think that the rise of no-fault divorce has potentially increased anomie and isolation in the upper classes as well, but it's not necessarily translating into equally terrible outcomes thanks to high levels of human capital.

And, of course, if widespread support for no-fault divorce emerges--what does it mean that people decide they want it? And if you prohibit it, people will just figure out inefficient ways to put on pageants of adultery or whatever so as to convince judges to let them divorce. The law isn't exogenous.

I blame endocrine disruptors in the water supply.

Exposing kids to same-sex conduct is not good for them. Full stop.

You could go dig up the stats on STD's, domestic violence, drug use, suicide, how long queer marriages (in Canada, anyway) last, whether or not they stay monogamous, and what happens when you deprive kids of stable role models of both sexes.

You could Google Moira Greyland while you're at it, right before you go find your old copy of The Mists Of Avalon and throw it in the burn barrel.

No-fault divorce helps bad marriages end amicably. The idea that all marriage has to be permanent and unbreakable is toxic. Should people try to resolve issues before it gets to that point if they can be? Obviously. But sometimes it's just not right.

I have this suspicion that the social factors killing the upper and middle classes in industrialized countries are the same factors that killed the ruling elites in places like Rome and Greece.

Decadence, complacency, and parasitism.

In modern times, it probably helps that starvation, or otherwise death from economic failure, is near nonexistent in industrialized countries, and with modern birth control, sex doesn't have any life-altering consequences any more.

Uh, well, that's what's under discussion, isn't it? Are we all noticeably happier, now that no-fault divorce is the law of the land? Are college-educated whites reproducing at replacement rates? What if you do the analysis without the Mormons?

I mean, sure, there's an argument to be had, but the mere assertion that marriages ought to be breakable because the people involved don't like each other that much is 1) fairly new historically and 2) subject to considerable argumentation.

80% of divorces are initiated by the woman, IIRC. Who proceed to get, well, everything. Because the laws that predate no-fault, the laws that ensured a man couldn't simply blackmail their wife by threatening her with penury, are still in place.

They ought to be repealed. That would ameliorate a lot of the damage.

That's a good point, although there is at least a colorable argument that this is in fact sort of how we should think of our marriages as well--you know, good breeding stock, comes from a good family. Clandestine marriages were the norm for Catholic peasantry until the counter-reformation, but IIRC if title to land was involved you needed witnesses. I guess what I'm trying to say here is that historical norms for nobility are in fact relevant to the situation of free people in a Jeffersonian democracy.

Shit, man, I don't know. Probably not, but then again that's not what I was raised with. I bet if I came from a culture where that was normal it wouldn't strike me as a meaningful violation of autonomy.

also, "having no choice" is a bit strong. Most arranged marriages in the first world are more like parental matchmaking, I believe--they find someone suitable, you get to meet them, and you both have the option to say no. Presumably if you do this a lot they'll start turning the heat up on you to get you to say yes. But it's not Borat either.

>Confirmation of our supposed values is more important than the real world consequences of those values in action, and anyone that doesn't share them is going to burn in hell
>Something, something, tolerance.
>But only of people like me.

They sure as fuck didn't mean the fundamentalist version of Christianity you're using as a base, which came about in full organizational form in 1919.

Jesus was white and cared a whole bunch about gays

Oh, to be clear

>Pastor or whatever would talk about peace and tolerance
>Every fucker in the pews would be the ones talking about all those people gunna burn in hell for not being in church
>Bible talks even louder about the consequences of not being a deaf blind slave to 'god'

>Maybe you should learn about modern Christian values.

Shit sonny, I can lay that out in two lines

>Everyone needs to stop being so interventionalist and destructive to the freedom and personal liberty our country was founded on
>By forcing my values and beliefs on them so I don't have to see things I don't like.

It doesn't suprise me Phil is from California, he definitely has a Californian political attitude.

You're framing that argument poorly and cherry-picking data.

Being raised by same-sex couples isn't as good as being raised by a traditional couple. It's still miles better than being raised in a one-parent house-hold, however.

And that's the problem with freedom. Risk is inherent in it in varying degrees, yet it is still precious in and of itself.

Alright thanks this thread is a clusterfuck

Better a kid be in a Catholic orphanage that raised by two faggots.

And maybe if the family respected traditional marriage constructs it wouldn't be a single parent household.

Cute response, point still stands that faggots destroy kids. No child should have to grow up learning what two dudes fucking looks like.

Stay mad, oldtimer.

If Phil hasn't convinced you fag lovers of this yet I never will, he has more patience for your crap than I do.

Phil is a backwards shithead, so, yeah, not gonna happen.

Why do you care so much? Mad that you and your boyfriend can't hold some poor kid hostage?
>>
>>28354086
It's called "being a decent human being." It's far better for a kid than being stuck in foster care, and just because you think it's icky doesn't mean it has any effect on your life or causes any harm to the lucky kid who actually has a family to grow up in.

This thread made me want to adopt a puppy or something.
