>>
Engine redesign for a slimmer profile. I presume no power or fuel efficiency loss as this is 20-30ish years into the future. Improved protection for Droid. Looks more maneuverable that predecessor.

I like it.
>>
I like the old model better but the new one isn't bad.
>>
Is the new engine better? Visually the paint scheme is nicer but the split engine just not do it for me

The classic T-65 looks sturdier, but i definitely like the updated version. The new ones seem to be about on par with the tie interceptor. Dont know much about its loadout or defenses though. I also dont know if that anti personnel turret would get enough use to justify its weight, neat idea though.

Nah, you can't make the maneuvers that Po was making in the movie. Just no. JJA either doesn't understand the principals of flight, or some art major was put in charge of the cgi.
>Also the relative size of the spacecraft changes rapidly when compared to 'fixed' points.
e.g. the power compensator base thing was fucking massive on the outside, but suddenly the inner room is small as fuck when acemcfakeflying takes his craft inside. Despite having light pouring in from the outside. And all this, yet being able to see the building from fucking space. That 'planet base' must be tiny as fuck. Really? The fuck, man?

looking from the top you see that the wings are different as well.
When the older X Wings folded their wings together they were both full profile, and they closed against eachother.
The new Xwing is different. The bottom wings only make up the front of the combined wing while the top wings make up the rear. When they fold together they complete eachother and for one larger wing.

You can see it in the OP too, look at the thicknesses of each wing

Y-wings were already pushing their service life in the originals. Since this is basically Leia's private army she probably only went with X-wings because they're good enough at everything

It's Star Wars, man. The physics and/or scale have never made sense. Don't go all Neil deGrasse Tyson on a movie where a guy stops a "laser" blast with his mind. These movies were made because samurai duels and WW2 dogfights look cool in space, not to be works of speculative science fiction.

Heat diffusion in space. Because you're using the weapons they're generating more heat, so opening the foils adds more surface area for the radiators to work with.

and my biggest problem eith the new movie, aside from it being a mirror of a new hope, was the fact that all this shit took place in the same Solar system, pretty much. Fucking space gun shoots across the sky and you watch the core planets of the republic be destroyed.

Also when Han goes into hyperspace that noodle monster gets destroyed by the acceleration. So my question is why dosnt the hyperdrive rip itself out of a ship when it is sent into hyperspace? must be some strong bolts and shock absorbs throughout the entire ship. Why rnt the heroes heads caved in from the force of being pushed on by the backs of their seats? Chewbacca and Finn shouldve been thrown from their bed and turned into pudding against the back of the ship.

>>
>>28346855
I know in the old EU(Legends) they established that FTL communication was maintained with a network of Hyperspace transceivers and beamed signals from point to point. During the Clone Wars the CIS would destroy transceivers to cut off systems and only capital ships could support long range Hyperspace transmitters. Not anymore apparently.

>>28346889
That does irritate the shit out of me, in the original films Han mentions you can't rush a hyperspace jump because you come out to close to a gravity well and you'll be all across a few systems. JJ apparently decided that bit of lore was retarded and now you can jump an X-Wing right into a gravity well. Of course in Star Trek he introduced largely downside free teleportation that can cross lightyears and makes you wonder why anyone would ever bother building a spaceship again.

Personally I can't enjoy these trash movies until they finally settle how Chewbacca thermoregulates. We never see him panting like a dog, and his hands are covered in fur so he can't be sweating through his paws like a cat. Not one of these HACK directors have addressed this and it utterly destroys what would otherwise be perfectly enjoyable movies.

>>
>>28346942

Do you understand relative velocity anon?

I'd imagine that when accelerating to super-luminary speeds whilst being dragged across the hull of a spaceship there's some friction involved.
>>
If you can just jump, why do the ships even need normal kinetic engines anymore. Just strap a hyperdrive to your forehead.

Just jump, Abrams. This is what you wanted, right? Just jump. Jump around. Jump around.
>>
>>28346996
they are not for cooling, atleast not in space.
Your idea is that they are wide mouthed to gulp air and keep the engines cool as it flys forward. In a vacuum that dosnt happen. The only way to diffuse heat in space is through radiation, and that takes fuckhuge pannels.
>>
>>28346978
I actually liked the two-seater TIEs. And it isn't as though backseaters can't control weapons in fighters now, so I don't see an issue in being able to do so in a futuristic setting. Besides, off you'll recall, Finn also shot at missiles that were behind the TIE.
>>
>>28347061
They were made to take down Star Destroyers, so yeah, they'd have done a better job than some X-wings with a few torpedoes.

>um... Mr. Abrams, sir, the Tie fighter doesn't have a pressurized cockpit... those fucking nerds will throw a shitfit if we do that

They've always played fast and loose with how space-y their space is. In Empire they walk around in the not-a-cave with some respirators while the creature's mouth is still open to hard vacuum. They also walk around outside Cloud City that's in the somehow breathable atmosphere of a gas giant. The TIE fighter not being pressurized or it even mattering at all is an EU invention.

All ships within the Star Wars universe generate their own gravity in a small bubble. It's even stated in a book that x-wing pilots don't feel the same G forces an atmospheric pilot might experience on earth.

That alien probably had too much mass extending out of the Millenium Falcon's personal bubble.
>>
>>28347075

in Theoretical Bullshit Fiction Physics 101 hyperdrives don't work particularly well near gravity wells, although this gets thrown out of the window when Han jumps straight into atmosphere.

Also energy i guess, maybe ships can only make so many jumps before refuelling, and also hyperdrives only have so many jumps before needing reconditioning.

>>28347157

Right.

The vidya had star destroyers modified with gravity well generators called interdictor class. You could hyperspace in but you couldn't leave.

The rebellion missions were usually to wreck the cruiser so that the fleet could jump away. The imperial missions were usually either destroy a trapped fleet or inspect ships passing through a shipping checkpoint, or just as the cruiser pulled them out of hyperspace.

Following, I guess you could Intentionally jump into a planet, must not away from it

You'd assume ship engineers built everything on the ship to survive acceleration to above light speed. The monster isn't attached to the ship and inertia is still a thing even in vacuum, it's not too far out there to assume that the tony speed difference between the monster and the ship grows exponentially and the resulting friction between it and thr ship tears it apart.

Or it's just movie bullshit, like how the millenium falcon can decelerate from lightspeed in atmosphere and not disintegrate from air friction.

The good guys shouldve been the first order. a group of elite dude who go around finnishing off the remains of the Empire.
The bad guys couldve still destroyed a few planets in the film, but instead of AMOTHEE space lazer, they couldve been traveling to, and recovering half dead Star Destoryers left over from the war, and firing them at planets. This wouldve given them a justifiable reason to be around Jakku. With all the dead ships planet side we can assime there mustbe some wreckages still floating in space.

There was nothing well executed about Poe Dameron's character other than who was cast for the role.

this

Poe was a wasted character but a good concept. Since they wrote finn into a corner as a feckless coward whose brief usefulness (knowledge of the now destroyed first order base) has ran it's course and Poe has been relegated to wedge antilles in a leather jacket, I'm not sure what direction they can even go in movie 8.

>The hyperdrive was a propulsion system that allowed a starship to jump to light-speed and enter hyperspace.

Follow the link to the hyperspace page
>Hyperspace was a dimension of space-time that could only be reached by travelling at lightspeed or faster
>>
So how come the millennium falcon had a "fuel pump" installed? Do starships use some sort of liquid fuel or what?
>>
>>28348438
Because JJ can't into technobabble. In Ep4 Han spit out a ton of stuff about flying in hyperspace and how it wasn't as simple as flipping a switch.

Yes they require fuel, the specifics of which I have no clue. Larger ships have their own fuckhuge reactors.
>>
>>28348383
Yeah, FTL travel in Star Wars is a two-step process. First you get to lightspeed then you go into hyperspace. Hyperspace itself is described in the next sentence of the hyperspace article as:

>By entering hyperspace, a starship could take advantage of the wrinkles in the fabric of realspace to reduce journey time significantly, "jumping" from a specific point to another point without having to travel directly between them.
>>
>>28348505
And Hyperspace mandates the ability to travel FTL to begin with

Then what happens? HE FUCKING DISAPPEARS FOR MOST OF THE MOVIE!

It feels like they did this to give Rey and Finn a run of the movie just because...SJW? I don't get it. idk, maybe the force of launching the plasma bolt out of the gun would cause some recoil, however that system is supposed to work. so if a regular blaster kills someone and has ~308 tier recoil, but a bowcaster blows troopers 20 feet in the air (and would likely pink mist them if it was rated r), its reasonable to think its recoil would be orders of magnitude heavier.
and that is true, but i figured the bolt color might have just been an oversight.
>>
>>28348695
However you are still traveling faster than light in order to enter hyperspace.
>>
>>28348660
because the bowcaster is a wookie weapon and pretty much fires a plasma covered tungsten dart. it doesn't use "gas" to make a recoilless plasma projectile like a normie blaster.

this is why kylo ren bleeds like a stuck pig after being gutshot instead of the typical laser burn.

You know how boring a true science fiction space battle would be? Engagements would happen thousands of kilometers away and ships basically using ECM and ECCM on each other until one of them either manages to have a firing solution or they both overheat and run away.

Space fights, real ones, would be more about waving your cock around and hoping the other side backs off. That is also considering both sides were equal footing and one didn't sneak up on the other, deliver a single, fatal blow, and fly away.

For the price, you can't beat the Z-95.
The rebellion was probably started by Incom to push sales for their T-65 because they couldn't get enough orders with the Z-95 still being popular on the civilian market.

The Z-95 is a veteran of the clone wars and that should be good enough.

Blasters are not laser weapons, they are projectile weapons, although the projectile is supposedly highly energized gas turned into plasma, still having mass, and thus recoil. If they did that, they would probably hit a breaking point of "everybody is related to everybody else". Rei is most likely Luke's kid. Ben/Kylo was Han/Leia's kid. Finn being Lando's kid would be the third strike.

I don't think it's very likely unless they do some heavy script re-writing at the last minute because Finn was originally casted to be a white guy.

Han was also supposed to fuck off and Luke and Liea were supposed to fuck, but that changes by the time they made the next movie. I don't see why this couldn't be different. >>28352883
B-b-but he's black! And uh... I'll lose some of my 4chan credibility if I don't call him a nigger!
>>
>>28352878
It's been all but said outright by their decisions. JJ was let go very abruptly (right after the executive screening two months ago) and there was a lot of worry the movie would be terrible based on lack of trailers at the time. The movie went really close to release date without a trailer (by 'guaranteed blockbuster' standards.) which typically meant a lot of work was being done in post.
This is conjecture but not my own words, I read a lot of things in Oct and Nov regarding some discord occurring behind the scenes. Now seeing Ep7, the 'remake that isn't a remake but might as well be', I can see what the problem is.
Disney paid 4 BILLION dollars for the SW franchise. That's just for the rights to make the movies. Their stock has actually dropped since the SW movie came out because investors have become worried they won't recoup the money as quickly as they predicted. Disney only makes 30-40% of its total green from motion pictures. It's true revenue come from merchandise and it's parks. They are sinking more than the GPD of some countries into making SW parks and selling SW stuff. They need the franchise to stick with the new generation as much as the old. A mediocre movie by a director with no imagine will not accomplish that.
>>
>>28352971

>At least 3 new characters, all white.
>Finn will be gradually phased into the background. Don't expect to see him much.

You can't deny that a lot of the EU was shit. For every diamond found in the EU, you had to wade through a pile of shit to find it. Those portions of the EU will not be missed and it's probably a good thing it's all flushed now - although the diamonds will be missed.
>>
>>28353230
The former. Disney had been pretty good about leaving non-princess shit alone (see Pixar, Marvel) and only 'meddling' when it was necessary. Plus, again, 4billion dollars, they have every right to demand a good product. JJ might not have fucked Ep7 but he did deliver a substandard product. Rey was an outright mary sue, Finn was useless, Han is dead (but this was kind of inevitable, Ford's health isn't the greatest so he was a bit of a liability), Ren was a shit villain and the plot was an Episode 4 copy paste with some random JJ shit thrown in.
I liked the movie, but I won't see it more than once. I've already lost interest in it. This is NOT what Disney wants. Am I the typical movie goer? Maybe, maybe not. But when Ep1 came out people had a hard time calling it bad for about a month or two, because they had been starving for more star wars. By episode 2, they had no problem calling it the pile of shit that it was. Ep 3 killed SW for 10+ years afterwards. Disney can't afford to see their movies slip into mediocre and forgettable territory.

If that isn't a mary sue then please give me the correct term.

>Forgetting Ford wanted Han dead.
I did no such thing. He also wanted him to be killed in Jedi. What he wants doesn't dictate the story. That being said, I still said it was a bit of an inevitability han would die one way or another.
