Hey /k/, I'm in the market. Looking for a cheap-ish ($400-800) compact pistol that I can use for both home defense and CC. Accuracy at range (25-50yd) is nice but pretty much secondary.

Reason this is CZ general (other than the fact that CZ handguns don't get enough love around here) is that I've been researching a lot and I've pretty much narrowed it down to three CZ models or a glock 19. The options for me are:

CZ P-01
CZ P-07
CZ-75 PCR
Glock 19

I'm most interested in the P-01 at the moment due to what I've heard and read on it (NATO approval and all that), not to mention the fact that I bet I can find one for as cheap as $550.

Are there any other pistols I'm missing that I should be looking at? Again, reliability and capacity are primary as long as the round isn't fuckin .25 or .32 auto or something.

Gonna post CZ porn while I wait for answers. Thanks.

One thing I'm a bit ambivalent on is the stock sights on the CZ pistols. Of the tons of stuff I see or read about them, not much is positive. I've handled a few at an indoor range and never thought it was a problem, but that was with a full sized 75B and a P-09. Can someone confirm that it's a real problem? The sights on this look a little goofy and bad for CC, are these the stock sights on the P-07?
>>
if you are serious about ccw buy the glock
overall its less hassle to carry
having no hammer is nice for iwb
it wont rust
its easier to get holsters though cz holster availability has greatly improved

im not saying the cz is bad gun but buy the glock for ccw if it was just range/fun use id rank the cz over glock its nicer to shoot

I see. I'm not too worried about the rusting as I take pretty good care of my stuff, but I have heard that some CZs can be a hassle to carry. Anyone have experience carrying one? Particularly I've heard some rubber or rubberized grips can be a pain in the ass.
>>
>>28337107
if you own the gun long enough the rubber stops being tacky and sticking to things
theres also a decent amount of grips available
nothing stopping you from buying both guns
>>
PCR and P-01 are essentially the same gun, slightly different aesthetics and the PCR is a bit more refined. I'm probably going to pick on of those up myself here soon, once I can find one.

P-07 vs G19 is up to you. I don't like Glocks personally, but I haven't shot the CZ either. I have a Sig P320 for my polymer gun, and while it's great, I find the CZ's to be much easier to shoot and manage recoil/follow up shots and I'm more accurate with them.

How about a nice cz clone?
Jericho 941 is a fantastic gun.

Slide mounted safeties are meh imo.

That's just personal preference, and in a way, they're "safer" in the sense of preventing accidentally engaging or disengaging them. Of course, they require most people use their off-hand to operate them, which makes it a useless carry gun imo.

Otherwise, they're essentially more front-heavy 75B's from what I hear. I would personally go with a 75, just so you can get the parts and services of CZ.
>>
>>28337702
Only difference between PCR and P-01 is that P-01 has a rail. So if you want to mount a light, the P-01 is your ideal gun in that scenario.

>>28336945
>it wont rust
isn't that kind of true with any gun you take regular care of? Unless you live in a very high humidity area or go swimming in the ocean a lot?
>>
>>28337867
the thing is with a glock you can abuse the shit out of it and it still wont rust
you can fire glock bone dry and it wont complain
preferably it would be oiled but its fine

cz barrels are untreated they rust anywhere the polycoat flakes of will rust the gripscrews rust the mags rust yes you can clean off the rust but with a glock it just wont rust
cz needs oil on the rails
>>

Oh and OP, get the P-01 if you decide to go with any of the CZ's. It has the rail, and I believe slightly better ergonomics? Unless the PCR is just a steal or something.

Get a late model P-07 if you go that route. Don't get a "Duty" model, or at least that is what everyone who has had one tells me. I would prefer the 19 for the price and performance, though I don't have much experience with polymer CZs.

Any of those mentioned are fine guns, and ultimately you should get the gun that fits you, and that you can shoot accurately and reliably. For me, that's the PCR or P-01. I don't think the added convenience and carry comfort of polymer justifies the increased "snappiness" I get from them. Also, I just like traditional DA/SA over striker fired DAO like glocks.

Honestly, if the primary purpose is carry, I would get one of these, or even their larger counterparts (17, 75B, SP-01, P-09 etc). for home defense, and then get a second auto in a smaller sized, sub-compact package. Maybe even a pocket .380? That way, you'll never leave the thing at home due to comfort/concealability issues, and you won't be under gunned at home either.

Compromising in the world of firearms is usually a surefire route to disappointment, or worse.

Any gun will rust, this guy is full of it. Most of the "rusting" on the barrel and slide of the CZ will most likely be completely superficial, provided he takes care of it.

I will say that the Glocks tend to respond better to abuse and neglect, while still performing and avoiding lasting damage to the weapon. The manual itself even encourages you to use VERY LITTLE lube, and some people insist their Glocks work better borderline "dry". But the alloy frame of the PCR and P-01, and the polymer p-07 aren't magical rust producing machines. they are solid guns, and the barrels would have to severely neglected for years before you'd see any significant pitting or corrosion. As you pointed out, I would choose the Glock in the higher humidity areas.

Also, I have nothing against polymer at all. I do certainly think it's more comfortable, and you need not worry about neglecting it. But they're ugly, and not as fun to shoot.

Where the fuck have you been?

I use CZ75 Shadow in USPSA Production and CZTS (.40) in Limited. But G19 and Shield are my carry guns.

Try pawn shops, that's where I saw my first CZ & it was a P-01 for around $450.

Save the story, I broke down & bought my first CZ this weekend, a PCR, think I did well at $500
I LOVE the thing, it's my new fav. sidearm, only thing I'm not 100% on is the sights are on the small side, but a little more paint on them should help. Hear a lot of guff about the trigger which I thought I would hate but it's not an issue.

Coming from an XD(m) the CZ feels lighter, fits better in the hand, recoils better & I think the CZ will carry better also (only pocket carried so far), I will be selling the XD(m).

Looks like CZ has a new P-01 Omega, with the omega trigger system and better looking sights, If anythign that will be my 2nd CZ.

75b is my favorite gun I've ever owned...

I've carried almost all of the following and owned the rest...

P01, P07, Steyr 1913, G20, G21, G29, G19, G23, FNX Tactical, Taurus shitvolver (cringe), a couple Firestars, Shield 9mm (still own it for summer carry), SR1911, P226, FiveseveN, M&P Core 9MM (yuck), P250, and probably a dozen others.

75b does not malfunction. Carries comfortably and is accurate as hell at 50 yards. I grease the rails and oil the barrel.

3 CZs and a glock is a really strange list of options. Why is the glock even on your list? Its obvious you want a CZ. Also why is glock an option but not any other polymer/styker wonder 9 pistolas?
