Enjoy Dark Souls: Russian Remix.

I have enjoyed playing mine so far. Probably the hardest shooter I've played in a while and tons of fun because of that. Love the bits of RPG that are mixed in.

I actually did this after I got SoC.

I poured the vodka in my canteen and used the drinking straw on my gas mask to drink the vodka while playing. Thankfully I didn't have a roommate at the time.

Does /k/ not like stalker anymore or something?

He should beat it vanilla before installing mods. Otherwise one doesn't appreciate what the mod changes.
I do love Arsenal though, want to reinstall SoC to try that version since I've beaten CoP many times but haven't played the first in a long time
Thinking now I miss some of the cool areas of SoC, like the Dark Valley, Yantar, and Agroprom (though not stuff like not being able to sleep or repair or upgrade gear)

Beat it.
Then install MISERY Mod, Armed Zone Mod, MISERY Radio Extension, and some other tidbits. Make sure you do it in the order that doesn't rape your graphics.

Not all filters will give you cancer.
Just avoid anything pre 1970s, specially soviet ones, any British ones before the 90s and the US M17.

I hear the Swiss and Israeli filters are very popular.

The masks themselves are still safe to use if you clean them out, but with an old mask there is ofc no guarantee that it will function as intended.

You should play the STALKER series in the release order. SoC is the first game, and offers a far better introduction to the Zone's wonders. The sequels are pretty much like standalone expansions, and spend less and less time explaining things to you.

Consult this Starting Guide,
then see the /vg/'s huge Stalker General for more tips and links: >>>/vg/stalker

Play in the release order. Start with no mods - only latest patch, OR get the full "Starter Pack" first; these contain bug-fixers and light visual mods that can help performance as well.
Leave big overhauls for later playthrougs. Avoid the "Complete" -mods. Always play on MASTER difficulty for best realism and atmosphere, and disable crosshair.

Don't give up in the beginning! The starting gear sucks ass and first area is quite boring.
