Geissele triggers are nice. understand, when you pay $200 for $50 standard part, it usually isnt 4x "better".
that being said, there are those who want "better" at whatever the cost, despite whatever nominal increase in performance it may be.

I have a rock river arms national match on my .22 and it honestly helped tighten up my groups. I love the two stages and the clean break with no grittiness. I will be getting a few more.

The consumer market isn't necessarily filled with snake oil, it just doesn't matter for most shooters that just blast at paper targets and beer cans. Same thing for cars and the vast market of consumer performance parts. And off-road parts and trucks. The products do their thang.. But the consumer... Does.... Not.... Need them.

I bought one and I feel a noticeable difference in the pull, pretty much the same break, just less shitty than plain old milspec. It's just a teflon/NB coating, nothing to get terribly excited about. Worth the extra $20 imo.
>>
Alright, since everyone is jumping down OP's throat about triggers, Tell me about Geissele.
I currently have an ALG QMS trigger with some upgraded springs, it has a pull of somewhere just under 4 lbs, and breaks like glass.

Is a two stage trigger really worth over $200 to someone who just likes plinking steel at 1-300 yds? I have no problem hitting targets standing, prone or bench with my current setup.

Because a lower with a gessielle trigger and good furniture is like $350-400 if you don't wait for sales, so $800 budget for the upper, $1200 sounds good
The guys over at arg do stupid shit
>$100 more for a coated bcg that provides no benefit

Have dpms can confirm it's doable. I notice mine has more creep than I would like when precision shooting, but it's just something I keep in mind. Especially cause I put the money I saved not buying a geiselle towards pic related
>>
>>28306819
>Is a two stage trigger really worth over $200 to someone who just likes plinking steel at 1-300 yds?
Depends entirely on how much money you have, and what you think it's worth spending on. It's a determination that is inherently subjective.

An SSA-E, for instance, is objectively better than the trigger you have now. But whether the marginal benefit of a better trigger is worth the additional cost is up to you. Before I got mine, I was perfectly happy plinking steel with my stock milspec trigger. But then I decided that I wanted a much lighter trigger, and I had some spare money to burn so I went for it.
>>
>>28306992
Still cheaper than a new kac

But seriously, can you not eBay?
Matech supplies the rear sight of the US army. It's a non serialized item, so when it gets lost, it's not stealing. EBay that shit
$30-$50 max
>>
>>28305634
Being overpriced isn't the same thing as being snake oil, dumbass.
The CMC is a good alternative to the Geissele if you are just plinking (they often need KNS anti-walk pins unless you like the ugly e-clip pins that come with it), the Jard is a good alternative if you want adjustability (but they often require drilling and tapping, Spikes lowers have a hole that works but requires a tap). I honestly actually like the RRA two stage match trigger.
That said I have two Geissele's and one Jard, and the CMC just sits in my tool box.
>>

Kac does the marines. It's $60 sometimes for theirs. I like the looks of the matech fwiw. Will keep an eye out for one. I've been pretty happy with my cheap buis from like utg and aim sports. I don't use them often but they have both held zero for a couple hundred rounds so far

>>
>>28307079
I wish people would understand that value is subjective, and that judging other people's purchases based on your valuations is retarded. It would also solve a lot of shitposting.

>>28307090
For me, yeah. For the purposes I have my AR (plinking and SHTF), I value a light and crisp trigger over nice furniture or the latest and greatest optic, as I find the trigger feel is the first thing I notice when I shoot a gun. I opted to spend the money to fix that issue, since I'm otherwise satisfied with the rest of the stock parts. Though I might put in a UTG super slim handguard at some point because I have stubby manlet hands and M4-style handguards are quite fat.

Never done a trigger job on my AR, or any of my rifles, what makes this trigger so nice? Is it like a pistol trigger job, crisper and lighter?
>>
>>28306318
>>28306329
Have one in my ar. It's a milspec trigger with some more finishing put into the parts. Doesn't pull any lighter or have a whole lot less takeup. Does pull much smoother and break crispier.

For $46, it's really not a bad option.
>>
>>28307207

hmm. ive never taken my AR past 200 yards and it has a milspec trigger, on a rifle, especially an AR a trigger job doesnt really seem necessary. maybe if i was competing or had magnified optics it would be worth it

not surprising, its a lot easier to get asspained and try to rationalize when you're broke

Yeah, this shit is inexcusable. When you're marketing a civilian variant that isn't restricted by any minimum trigger weights, you don't put a shitty trigger in such an expensive rifle.

Then again, people still buy it so obviously it's a good business move.
>>
>>28305855

>>28308732
That's not what he's saying bro, he's saying most ppl don't need a super fresh 2 stage 4.5 lb trigger for their rifle so it seems like "Snake oil" to them when the mil-spec is like only 20 bucks or whatever.
>>
>>28308743
>shitty trigger

Is it really "shitty?" A 2 stage geiselle is amazing, it'll make most triggers seem shitty by comparison. How's is stack against similar stock rifle triggers?
>>
>>28308691
I agree, but it's a "combat trigger" for a combat rifle.
>>
>>28308748
Then fuck you, don't buy one. Holy shit, why do you care what other people pay for?
>>
>>28308729
Interesting. Too bad these didnt exist when I bought mine. I take it you like it?
>>
>>28308765
Roughly the same (6-8lbs, according to different people). The issue isn't that the trigger is specifically "bad", but rather that it is not good enough given the price tag. Why does a rifle that costs twice as much as an AR have a similar quality trigger?
>>
>>28308844

Yes, I know what you mean, but if you're looking for cachet among most people, a super top name like that is only going to be attractive to people who know watches.
>>
>>28316796
But that's the dilemma; you either have a well-known luxury brand and risk people thinking it's fake (and the frequency of this depends on the financial situation and appearance of the person wearing it), or a less-known luxury brand and have nobody recognize it.

Either way, if you're wealthy enough to easily afford a top-end watch, people will know you're wealthy without having to look at it. And if you're a poorfag who scraped his pennies and bought a top-end watch, you won't be fooling anyone.

If you enjoy having a mediocre rifle sure. I shot NRA f class and you'd get laughed off the range saying things like that. Those people wouldn't shoot a gun that couldn't do sub-MOA at 200 yds.

Even for hunting trigger jobs are great. I used the geissele sd3g on my ar and i can take quick shots of moving animals with ease
>>
Explain it to a no-ar fag in simple terms.

Why should I pay for a colt when I can get a windham for a hundred bucks cheaper, a delton for another hundred bucks cheaper, and a DPMS for yet another one hundred bucks cheaper?

What's the difference between a rifle made by colt, windham, DPMS, or del-ton? If this was going to be my only AR-15, for general purpose use, does colt offer something that makes it worth almost 400 bucks more than the DPMS I am looking at?
>>
>>28317039
An example comparison:
http://www.survivalistboards.com/showthread.php?t=222444

Also, remember that if you build it yourself, there are significant cost savings, so you won't be paying DD or Colt prices for the same quality rifle.
>>
>>28317309
I'll give this a read, thanks.

I'm considering a build, but my only hang up is a stripped lower is a week wait (and possibly requires a HQL depending on ffl apparently) where I am and an assembled rifle is cash and carry. Otherwise it's an attractive idea.

Ask how I know you have, at most, some shitty .22 or a nugget.

The fact is that 90% of the guns sold today are more accurate than 90% of shooters 90% of the time. Meaning you can take almost ANY gun and give it to ANY guy and have them shoot at a target and the gun will out shoot him. But he'll then put that gun on the bench, cherry pick ammunition, shoot at a target at something like 25 yards for a pistol or 100 yards for a rifle, and if it doesn't get sub-moa then it's shit.

There's a stupid fucking amount of mysticism in the gun community. Every other dude acts like they're an operator that needs a gun to be 100% accurate 100% reliable 100% of the time. Pistols must be able to fit into their pocket, be able to take down a grizzly, have zero recoil, pin point accurate, be able to survive in the mud for 10 years without rusting. Rifles must be able to survive being in a rock tumbler for a year, shoot white submerged in mud, deliver kill shots at 1000 yards, never ever jam once, be a short barrel, have be at least 1 dB quieter suppressed than the competition, etc etc. If it doesn't hit that magic sub-moa number or even lower they'll dump hundreds or thousands into big name companies for top-tier brands or load rifles with crap made of space age materials.

For the amount of money some shooters have spent they could easily afford a modest rifle and pistol and enough ammo to be shooting for years at which point THEN they're probably ready for an uber serious firearm needing to deliver these magic specs. But in reality they spend huge portions of their salary and can count the number of times they go shooting on both hands in one year.

Myself included. Guns are one hell of a drug.

I put some gucci shit on my AR and it came nowhere near the price of a SCAR.
>>
I got a super three gun single stage in an AR I bought. Definitely makes a difference. It was fucky going from the vz58 trigger to it though, I ended up accidentally shooting two or three times instead of once because I automatically went to preset the trigger. Scared the piss out of me when it happened.

naw m8

My 300 blackout SBR is pretty fucking gucci and it's still half the cost of a SCAR

Buy a dpms and put 2-3000 rounds through it. You seem like the kind of person who learns from experience.

I'm actually an "or something" kind of guy. And you can use a stick to fire your AR. The leverage helps for precision fire, plus you can wiggle it back and forth for rapid fire in CQB-CQC-CQM-CQBLOWJOB-Tactical autoerotic asphyxiation.

Exactly my point. Why pay for a SCAR when you can have a top-tier AR?

>when you pay $200 for $50 standard part, it usually isnt 4x "better".

That holds true for virtually any manufactured item that can be upgraded in some manner. Performance increases are incremental.

You may double the cost of a 2 MOA rifle to get it down to 1 MOA, and then triple that cost to get it to .5 MOA. That's even assuming that the platform is inherently capable of that degree of precision.
