When I first got my PTR, I tried to disassemble the trigger group, and popped the pins in the wrong order, causing all the springs to shoot out all over my room, and spent the next hour combing through my carpet to find them.

I also forgot to replace the cocking lever spring, which prevented the bolt from cycling properly, causing dozens of failures to feed on one of my first trips to the range with it.

Almost put a 7.62x39 into my ceiling but luckily got a light primer strike. Was a wake up for sure.

Guess I'll say it here because I'm sad and tired.

Got a call around 12 last night from my mom, absolutely inconsolable, the old cat we've had for 15 years hadn't been eating and was acting skittish, so she had taken her to the vet. Turns out it's kidney failure and they're likely to put her down. Mom sat on that info for a few days and tried not to tell me because 'she didn't want to ruin Christmas for me' but she couldn't hold it in and ended up calling me in tears and breaking down.

Yeah, I feel sad about the cat because I had her forver and she was a good buddy. But fuck, if it wasn't the worst timing. I'm half way around the country visiting my father and my single mother (I'm the only child) is about to lose the only thing that's kept her grounded since I've been to college.

Shit is rough to think about, especially since I have to guide her towards putting the cat down for its own good. We can't afford stupid expensive treatments.

With the help of an undercover detective I lied to people, specifically poor black people, about a gun amnesty program knowing full well they would end up getting arrested. That same detective had caught me trying to sell him a gun I had found by some train tracks, I was basically homeless at the time and totally at his mercy. He wanted me to testify against them and say I had in fact, sold them the guns, but I knew I'd probably get killed as a result and left the state.

Every night I go to sleep wondering if he'll show up at my door to arrest me, or if one of those guys will track me down. It's been almost 7 years since this happened and I'm still not sure of how I feel about it.

I'm in the infantry up here, and if I move there I will have 0 transferable skills..so I was looking at joining the USMC, since the US Army will only take citizens. Also my mother lives in upstate NY, so I'd have a place to live, but, I don't want to be 23 and move back in with a parent...also, in a cuck state like NY at that. But after doing a few years service I could become a citizen, move to a free state in the south and have ALL the guns.

I played a little, but I honestly think paintball is far better as a sport. The pain of getting painted encourages teamwork and good marksmanship, and the times where the paint doesnt burst is the random chance that a shot doesnt kill you.

Shooting has become a chore. I moved to a new state and the nearest range is an indoor one that is $30 and slow fire only that's over an hour away. I still go occasionally to maintain some form of proficiency because I carry a pistol for work, but otherwise I don't shoot anymore.

My grandma got diagnosed with a rare cancer in her spinal and brain fluid. They gave her maybe 2 weeks (at most) to live, but she went from being herself to acting like a toddler in the span of a couple days. Worst part is that the last interaction I had with her was a big argument, and I won't be able to truly say goodbye because I'm currently recovering from surgery.

I'm liberal and pretty fuddy. I think huge gun collections are a waste of space, money and time before you're old, at which point they become awesome. I came to believe this while amassing a pretty decent collection early on, and it was reinforced when I started hunting. Only three of my firearms see any significant use now (but I use the absolute shit out of them).

I want to upgrade the glass on my '06 and replace my .22 but apart from that I'm selling most of my shit off. Only working guns and a few heirlooms will stay. In retrospect, I wish I had spent the money on travel.

I've shot twice in the past year because the only range I can shoot pistols and rifles is an hour away and charges way too much. The last time I went shooting before this year was about 5 years ago. My gfs targets always look better than mine because she takes her time and focuses. I just get excited to be shooting again and unload.

I've got the money to buy pretty much any gun I could want, but while I'm in still in school and working on fundamentals I don't see the point in buying anything that costs more than a few hundred dollars. My most expensive gun is a ~$500 ar and I still kind of feel like it was too much.

By cocking he means pulling the hammer back into a stationary and "ready to fire" state, not just cycling. If you took a double action and cocked it with your thumb, the trigger would move back, the cylinder will rotate, and the hammer would stay up as long as you didn't pull the trigger. If you only use the trigger, the cylinder rotates and the hammer goes back but it doesn't stay there. Either you fire, or let up on the trigger to bring it down gently.
