I don't think gimmicks qualify as memes.

That gun was designed to be a .22lr "pistol" to mount to a larger gun like an AR15. On paper it does that really well. However as I understand, it jams a lot and there isn't really a lot of use for it other than being an oddity, quieter and cheaper ammo, and a bit of a range toy.

Has the internet associated "meme" with "kinda weird shit" now?

How new are you fags? The Deagle has been a meme gun since its first appearance in video games. Deagles are one of the older memes on /k/, so I'd say that qualifies it nicely as a meme gun.

Meme is a word (a real word, not an Internet term) that refers to "an idea, behavior, or style that spreads from person to person within a culture". There is a whole science dedicated to this (memetics).

A goofy gun or something is simply disliked is not a meme. Calling something a meme doesn't mean it's a meme. Something that is popular is not necessarily a meme.

A more "organic" explination is when an idea begens to permeate within a specific culture, growing and changing on it's own.

I.E anon posts a picture. Several people independently think it's funny. People start re-posting that picture, and some even begin putting captions over the image. it then becomes a standard thing to do, and over time is now common place, with slogans and other ideas attached to it. THAT is and example of a meme. A "popular thing" is NOT a meme.

Ex: Glocknade, RIFLE IS FINE, A Magical Place, those are memes by the real definition.
