So what's the problem with more regular issuance of drum magazines for assault rifles to infantry?

Is it weight? Reliability? A fear that it will encourage the infantryman to waste ammunition?

Why not just issue a single drum that is the initial magazine in the weapon, with the infantryman carrying additional, more conventional 30 round mags as they normally would?
>>
>>28254365
AR drums are fucking terrible. Barely worth it as even a range toy.
>>
>>28254365
heavy as fuck

>Why not just issue a single drum that is the initial magazine in the weapon, with the infantryman carrying additional, more conventional 30 round mags as they normally would?
Because standardization and economy of scale. And you also have to put that mag somewhere after using it, they are not disposable, especially not 200 bucks a pop drums.
>>28254395
Weren't the X-Products and Magpul drums not that bad?

The Beta C mag had a hard time not exploding when used in the desert.

It will be interesting so see how Magpul's 60 rnd drum performs. I think the plan on submitting it for the Marine's IAR program.

Yourself.

Don't.

Under no circumstances.

That's basic etiquette.

>Magpul drum

If that's the final concept, I'm interested to see the guts. I've only had experience with my friend's AK drum, and we know how fat those things aree.
>>
>>28254457
Sssshhhhhhhhh. The newfags will learn. They just do it through trial and error now instead of lurking.

I haven't seen "lurk moar" in years
>>
>>28254439
I thought the magpul drum was only 50 rounds. also it seems like 2 30 round magazines would take up less space than a drum.
>>
>>28254457
>etiquette, here.

No, it's simply because you don't get to call your clutch. You're not the judge, jury and executioner. Pick one.
>>
>have six 30 round magazines
>one malfunctions
>have five mags to switch to

>have one 200 round mag
>malfunction.exe

>>
>>28254580
It's called a D60 I believe, and it holds 60 rounds.
>>
>>28254567
To be fair, lurk moar was never really a /k/ meme, and you still see it on some of the other boards.

Also you barely see any of the old memes any more. Expect for greentexting implications. That meme took off and hasn't looked back since.

Steyr figured it out years ago with 42 round mags. Why is that shit not standard? 40% more rounds in a mag is great.

Because they are working on a new method.

30% more bullet per bullet.

big fuckers
and heavy when loaded holy shit

Ive heard were going to get drum mags for the IAR i hope we fuckin do right now the IAR gunner is issued fuckin 22 30 round mags i fuckin hate carrying extra rounds i cant even shoot

nah, just got the two 100 rounders today
also already sold one to a friend

>>28254365
Consider the following
>Vietnam war
Average expenditure rounds of ammunition per combatant killed - 250,000
Iraq Afghanistan war - 400,000
So basically troops don't need any encouragement to dump ammo

Heavier and reliability issues. If we were worried about our guns chewing up ammo, we wouldn't be issuing out M249s :P

Because unlike the casket mags, the drums will actually feed sometimes.

What makes an IAR any different from an HK416, besides having a heavier barrel.

Does it still have that wonkyass option to select either open or closed bolt operation?

no, that's the point
they dropped this requirement from the IAR contract to let HK win

LWRC would have been a great fucking choice but no,,,

former IAR gunner here. We are issued 22 magazines. I carried 6 magazines in my mag pouches, had a saw drum pouch attached to my flak that held 7 magazines. Then the other 9 are carried in pouches attached to the back of 3 other guys in my fire team. If I ever blow through 13 mags, I just run to one of my buddies and grab some mags from him. Takes 2 seconds. Also SOP for the IAR is to use it on semi automatic, unless you really need to keep some heads down.
>>
>>28254365
Unreliable, heavy, and they take up as much space on load bearing equipment as 4x 30 round magazines that would hold a total of 120 rounds
>>
>>28254365

Beta C mags were known to damage the magazine release on ARs due to the weight.

They haven't improved either. It's a self-sustaining cycle of keeping the weak AR magazine catch for compatibility with magazines and vice versa.

Because afghanistan has a very high rate of supressive fire when one rag head fires a burst in roughly the same direction
>>
>>28258065
No they made the e mag because p mags are banned by name in germany
>>
>>28261857
They were originally developed for British MOD, who promptly purchased a fuckload for their L85A2s in Afghanistan. They couldn't give two shits about the German civilian market.
>>
>>28254601
Pretty much
also, maneuverability is shite with a drum, and the extra weight might throw off your POA, but I can't confirm this
>>
>>28256966
A-stan=a lot of shooting at fucking mountains passes, hills, shit that's too far away for issued weapons. Comabatants are too far away to confirm kills without standin over the body. Bodies occasionally get hauled off by other sandniggers as well.
