What is the advantage of having the helicopter touch down to deliver infantry vs. having them parachute or rappel down?
>>
>>28108184
Less training
>>
>>28108184
Less that can go wrong.
>>
>>28108184
The entire helicopter touches down and reduces visibility instead of standing still like a tit in the sky, waiting for an RPG up the ass. Also parachutes have 100ft. minimum safe distance from the ground to work.
>>
>rappel down
You need to have training even for that.

that, and lets say your heli gets hit by an RPG a la Blackhawk Down and crashes outside your perimiter
>this is bad
if it gets immobilized inside your perimeter, there's no need to send an medivac party to defend the crashsite, also whoever was inside at the moment of impact will have a larger chance of survival because there's no multiple feet freefall involved

>chopper hovers in the air for like 2 minutes
>niggas sliding down ropes
>nigger shoots RPG at chopper
>chopper dodges
>nigga falls off fast rope
>breaks his nigga ass spine
>PJs have to carry him for like 2 miles through the mog
hmm

My question is, by staying up and letting the soldiers rappel down, would the helicopter be able to fire on hostiles on the ground?
>>
>>28108221
Sure, and everyone else can shoot back.
>>
>>28108221
You generally don't want to make an airdrop in a hostile DZ anyway, especially in the case where your helicopters can be downed with sustained MG fire.
>>
>>28108221
yes, but the armament you can squeeze into a troop carrying heli isnt that impressive and thus not worth trading for a safer and probably faster disembarkment
>>
Touching down, or getting close enough. Is a much faster way to get everyone off.

Fast rope is for when you can not land

Parachute is stupid
>>
>>28108221
No

Effective troop helicopters (looking at you hinde) are not well armed /if at all. ( maybe a few door gunners)

Staying high and letting the men slide down makes you a very easy target for 2+min. Vs the 30seconds to disembark on the ground
>>
It's meaningless because the marines bought the V-22, and you can't rappel down from a V-22
>>
>>28108654
Yes you can
