I can only speak for my since sold .308 model. It was a fine rifle, just not what I was looking for from a semi 308. With 54r you have limited options and the vepr is the newest design you can buy.

What kind of accuracy are we talkin?
I like shooting 500 yard plus ranges.
Is it like "accurate for an ak" accurate or actually a decent long range weapon?

Cuz every review I read spends 3 paragraphs gushing about reliability and reciever quality then has like, 2 or 3 sentences about "oh yeah, and it was accurate at 100 meters."

I want it for long range plinking in a cheap caliber.

Furthest I think I've pushed it is a little past 400 yards, but it was still squirrely with the shorter barrel.
Inside 250 yards, it's hard to miss. A good optic changes everything. The one I have now is shit so I generally don't go beyond 250 yards when I'm hunting with it.
If you want 500yd+, I advise looking at the 20" model or longer.
IMO, they're quite accurate with good ammo and glass, like any rifle. An added benefit is that they will eat any ammo without risking damage, something you can't do with a PSL.

I own a .308 one, and I love it. It's sturdy, comfortable to hold, and I can pop beer cans with a scope from 50 meters.

The only real downside is the price and availability of the magazines. Would give my right nut for someone to ship me bunch of CSSpecs mags.

Heard the same, and that's what apparently even ProMag does. I actually got two of their Vepr mags just recently, and what do ya know - they don't fit my model!
Still juggling whether to just send these back or try to mod them to work. I've heard that the converted M14 mags aren't exactly the most reliable ones either.

came with the gun. Works great, nothing fancy, but seems to be very accurate and has held its zero, no matter how I tend to take it on and off all the time.

Noice. I'm using a pos Leapers 3-9x42 compact. Would like to get something with higher magnification options without looking goofy on a carbine.
Tried a POSP but they're not lefty friendly. Plus fixed magnification.

Ive got that same setup but without the bipod. I love mine. Only thing I might recommend is getting the 20" vs the 23". 20" is a bit more accurate due to less barrel whip.

CSSpec mags are amazing I have 2 of the first gens and never had a malfunction. The first gens are bigger and heavier but look like surplus 47 mags and i love them. Never tried the gen 2 but they are probably even better.

my friend has the 7.62x54r with a 16 inch barrel. That thing is the definition of k. It sounds like a fucking cannon (noticeably louder than my 06) and the fireballs from steel core surplus are enormous and can usually be seen during daylight. Ammo is of course dirt cheap and even out of the shorter barrel, steel core 54 r still wrecks, especially since you can unload in semi auto. We haven't shot for groups, but it usually explodes whatever you point it at on the first shot, and the recoil isn't bad. /k//10 would buy if wasn't poor.

In my opinion the super vepr is lacking in features compared to a standard model. For one, the barrel isn't threaded, and there is no compatibility with standard AK optics or furniture.
With the fluted barrel, you might squeeze a little more accuracy out of it but it's not worth $1200 to me.
