/k/,

I'm getting ready to make my first purchase. Up until now I assumed I'd get a 10/22 because I know that's a good starter rifle. But then I'm also very fond of the idea of a lever gun, so I wanted to know if that sounds crazy. Of course if I went for a lever gun, I wouldn't really know who to buy from. I guess Mossberg?

And no I'm not getting a nugget.

Lever gun thread.

I don't own one but almost bought a Henry lever .22.

I didn't because ammo is hard to get here.

I'd go with a Henry myself.

.22 lever guns are usually kinda crappy. Some work well, but it's very easy to get a lemon. If you really want a lever gun, your best bet is a repro pistol caliber gun from Chiappa or Uberti, or jumping up to 30-30 with an older marlin or winchester.
>>
>>28060219
Lever guns are expensive, get anything from a 22 to a .223 as a first rifle. I say .22 personally because a box of 500 is 30 bucks. (in canada at least) But, dont bother with a lever action as a first gun, they are expensive, and if you're going to spend the money to get a lever action, get something that can drop an animal bigger than your cock.
>>
>>28060232
>>28060237

Yeah I figured I would spring for something in 30-30, but I'm Canadian too so I know that paying to feed that would be like a periodic punch in the dick.

Will look into some of these suggestions though.
>>
>>28060255
.223 is retardedly expensive, and as a fellow canadian, an SKS and a case of surplus at cabelas is under 500 right now, for the gun an 1500 rounds. bought mine 2 days ago. fuckin aye. But dont make it your first, a .22 and a SKS will satisfy your rifle needs for awhile, then buy something with a little power and a decent scope.
>>
>>28060273

Oh neat, I'm looking at that now. PAL hasn't quite arrived though, so I'm going to miss all the deals.

a used marlin m39 is the gold standard of 22lr leverguns but it wont be cheap

for what purpose
>>
>>28060219
Savage Model 99 in a common caliber. I have one in 308 and it's a damn fine rifle.

What about the Browning BL22?

I don't know much about what's out there for .22 lr lever guns, but if you're looking for something larger I've actually heard good things about Rossi's .357/.44/.45 lever actions, supposedly people who do those cowboy shooting competitions really like them so they must not have the problems Rossi's pistols have. Also, I'd pass on anything that doesn't fire .22 lr or pistol ammunition as rifle ammunition is generally rather expensive so you won't be able to shoot as much.

>>28060219
I have a Yugo SKS that I am trying to trade for a lever gun. What are some goodones to lookout for? I already have a Winchester 94 in 30-30

Kind of a pointless post because I don't have any pictures of it but it's a sweet little short-mid range deer rifle and an absolute beast of a brush gun.

>grandpa hunts with a Ruger lever action in .44mag. Super fun little gun

Don't know where he bought it, never seen another one for sale at any store or gun show. Though I guess on that note I've never seen any Ruger .44 mag carbines for sale anywhere either, even better brush gun than the lever is

I bought a Marlin 336 in 3030. I love it but should have started with 44 or 357 as it is my first fun.
>>
>>28060219
Just buy the 10/22 and then move up to a real lever gun from there.
>>
>>28060469
Why does there need to be a purpose?
>>
>>28065187

I probably will. I'm not going to buy a lever gun in 22, whatever I do.
>>
>>28068208
Yeah just buy a 10/22, they are excellent starting guns and then move up to a lever gun of your choice but do not buy a .22 lever gun, cycling the damn thing would be a nightmare.
>>
>>28068232

>but do not buy a .22 lever gun, cycling the damn thing would be a nightmare.
Good point, I wonder about that. But then again there are plenty of 22 levers, so I assume they're just built with a lighter action.

>no guns faggot
>doesnt know the joy of plinking with a lever action .22

Look at him. Look at him and laugh.

OP - Have you considered a lever action in 357/38 spl? Look for Rossi, winchester ones are expensive. If you get into gun ownership chances are you will eventually buy a 10/22 regardless. If you want to target practice but also have something for self protection in your house then a lever in 357 would be better
>>
>>28068495

A pistol caliber lever is definitely not out of the question. Although I'll probably want to hunt with it.

>self protection
I'm Canadian, no HD fun required (allowed).
>>
In order of quality:
>pre-'64 Winchester
>current production Winchester/Browning (Miroku-made)
>pre-2000 Marlin
>Henry
>post-2008 Marlin
>crapping in your palm
>Henry
>DESIGNATED SHITTING STREET
>getting eaten by a gnu
>Mossberg

Also OP, if you don't get a levergat in x54r, .444marlin, .45-70, .405win, or .50 Alaskan you literally have a vagina.

Anyone know of any good quality .357 levers? Any experience hunting with .357? I've been looking at a rossi model 92, but I know very little about them.

If it was good enough for Teddy Fucking Roosevelt, it's good enough for you god dammit.
>>
>>28070365
Rossi is ok, don't expect the finish to be great and there are chances for a lemon. Uberti is a bit better, and Chiappa a bit better than that (Chiappa makes some dead sexy case hardened repros). Or, if you hate money or get really fucking lucky, you can go find an original Winchester 92.
>>
>>28060219

Don't buy a Henry, too expensive and abitch to load.

Get a Marlin, 336 in something like .30-30 JM stamped (Pre-2007)
>>
>>28069297
Yes.
>>
>>28070654
Oh, and I forgot Cimarron, they make good shit, and also are the importers for Uberti IIRC.

And Winchester/Miroku seem to make good quality repros as well. For not having guns of their own, the Japs sure can make a fine rifle.
>>
>>28070699
Do you know anything about hunting with .357? What's the largest game it can take take down? I don't really plan on getting into reloading either.
>>
>>28070699
>I love uberti but their rifles are out of my price range. Plus I enjoy the more modern look and side loading gate of the new Marlins.
>>
>>28068495
I actually I do own a gun, your just mad because you wasted money on a gun that doesn't cycle properly half the time.
>>
If you're looking for a lever gun in .22, look at the Marlin 39. As for the claims of lever .22's being unreliable, my 39 has never failed.
>>
>>28068495

Still don't have a .22 rifle at all and no desire for a 10/22
>>
>>28068973

.30-30 will ALWAYS be an important round to levers.

>>28069297
>>
>>28063422
that's amazing
>>
>>28063422

Okay that's pretty neat.

That fucking breathing though.
