I have a question to ask.
If I were to acquire a black powder revolver and load it up and have it ready to fire then put it away in my nightstand loaded but resting on an empty chamber so it won't go off.
Would it corrode and rust due to the fact that it is loaded or would it be safe to store away a loaded black powder revolver for a long time even a few year or so?
I know I can easily just get a regular modern handgun and do the same but what about black powder revolver though?
I like to hear your inputs and what you have to say on this matter.
I'm just really curious to this that's all.

see these notches between the nipples on the back of the cylinder ? those are there so you can rest the hammer there so you can charge all the chambers without having the hammer rest on a loaded chamber

Didn't realize what those were til you point that out for me.
That's actually pretty nice to know that I can have all six loaded and have the hammer safely on that.
So what would I exactly need to so to make sure it is safe to store away a loaded black powder revolver just a question.

afaik only the residue from the combustion is corrosive, black powder itself isn't. just make sure to have something to keep moisture out, both on the chamber mouth end and on the nipple end. i think wax was used historically.

If you have a clean gun then your gun won't rust just because it's loaded
Some black powder absorbs water
Pyrodex is less hygroscopic then other types
The percussion caps can also go bad over time if left exposed.
I have left my rifle loaded for a couple months during hunting season with out issue.
I also have an open container of pyrodex dated 1993 that I purchased at a garage sale. Shoots just fine.

Just use pyrodex and make sure there is a complete seal between the chambers and every or so replace the percussion caps.

I have done this. Traditionally the cylinders were sealed with beef tallow, but crisco seems to be a suitable substitute.
Left it in this configuration for about a month then pulled it apart. Powder still burned, and didn't notice any corrosion. Recently repacked everything and next chance I get to go to the range I'm going to try firing it.

Nail polish around the caps will also seal against moisture, will get jarred loose potentially if you fire it but if this is an HD gun only you wouldn't really be worried about that.
If you fire it at the range for fun just remember to remove the polish with a qtip and nail polsh remover and reapply.
