SVT-40 or Gewehr 43?
Garand
I'd pick the Gewehr any day. SVT was unreliable as shit and a pain to maintain, the Gewehr 43's disadvantage was the short barrel resulting in worse effective range and a distinct muzzle fire.

Get a robust bolt-action
>>28039122
Actually the SVT although not perfect is a simple and reliable firearm.
Gewehr 43.
Or a Luger rifle.
No, not a Luger pistol with a stock, I mean a Luger rifle.

>Luger rifle
I am fully erect.
>>28039122
Except that the Gewehr-43 was copied from the SVT and was inferior in every conceivable way.
Wehraboos will deny this.

I like the SVT but reliable it is not. The piston system has such tight tolerances it tends to gum up and start to cause malfunctions before 100 rounds even.
>>28039567
both rifles had issues and were not as reliable as their bolt action counterparts. theyre both really cool but they werent made as well as they needed to be to be quite honest family
The G43 is pretty crumby really. Fragile locking system with a reputation for cracking flaps, parts usually poorly heat treated, over gassed to much that they crak bolt carriers and bolt sleeves, snapping actuator rods, safety susceptible to rendering gun inoperable, and so on. They are brittle guns. and at least two smiths in the US specialize in just fixing them.

So Luger basically made a Pedersen rifle chambered in 7.92x57 in 1906?
>>28039042
>lightened polymer garand with detachable magazine
does this exist?
>>28042103
Yes it's called a Mk. 14 EBR faggot. Just as useless and expensive too.
>>28042135
>m14
>garand
>useless
fuck off tripcunt
>>28042170
Because the m14 lasted so fucking long didn't it?
>buh..buh muh ebr!
That just idiots desperately clinging to a fantasy that their gun isn't a complete waste of dosh.
>>28042193
>implying service life is the only thing that determines if a weapon is good or bad
>implying it wasnt issues to units in Afghanistan because muh 5.56
sure it might be expensive, but it's still a solid rifle.
>>28039026
SVT-40 was the better of the two and the Gewehr 43 just not a very good semi auto rifle.
>Gewehr 43
>inaccurate, unreliable
>SVT-40
>inaccurate, unreliable
I pick the Garand. The only semi auto rifle in the war that worked all the time every time. Except when it didn't.
k98 erry time

>The piston system has such tight tolerances it tends to gum up and start to cause malfunctions before 100 rounds even.
Yeah, calling bullshit on this.
I put 500+ rounds of shitty surplus through my SVT in one range session and never has this happened, nor have I ever heard of the the piston getting gummed up. I've shot and cleaned it enough times to know this isn't possible.
>The only semi auto rifle in the war that worked all the time every time. Except when it didn't.
I've had more problems with the Garand than the SVT. Every single enbloc clip, either factory loaded or reloaded, has wanted to load the first round without me having to get something to whack the bolt forward.
>>28043258
plenty of people talking about SVT's being unreliable. Im sure they all arent, yours for example.
>>28043258
google "SVT40 jamming" or "SVT40 malfunctions"
lots of reliability issues. its a super cool gun and im sure yours works great but its not immune to problems
>>28043409
Plenty of people spout the AR as being unreliable, that doesn't make it true. It makes it a meme like .30 carbine not going through chinese heavy jackets.
>>28040270
You mean Pedersen made a luger rifle in .276 in1926?
The fact that a nation waging total war decided to copy it and make ammunition/service manuals for the captured examples makes me put more belief into the "Russian conscripts were too incompetent to use" pool rather than the "rifle is unreliable" one.
People complaining about the gun in modern times aren't really a fair comparison to be honest. We've come a long way and the guns are literally 70+ years old now. I have no doubts that a newly produced AK or AR is more reliable, that doesn't detract from the reliability relative to its time of issue.
>>28043459
To be fair the AR was unreliable at first and has been improved. The SVT40 has never been improved. Again, I'm sure some are just more finicky than others but there are other more reliable semi autos out there.
>>28042225
No, it isn't. Any marine, army fucker, or ever chair force guy can assert that they're heavy, mostly front heavy, innacurate, overly sensitive, with high recoil and no better results than a 240 with a scope.
>>28043589
Not OP but to be fair the M14 is a pretty cool rifle for civilian life plinking or hunting. Not a good service rifle though I agree.
>>28039026
SVT-40
Sure it had reliability issues but from what I heard the G43 was even worse.
Also I already own and know how to maintain an SVT-40
