Are 8 gauge or 10 gauge shotguns worth getting, is it fine to just stick with 12. I guess in a tactical setting would there be any difference. Also, if there is any reason for these, where does one find an 8 gauge gun to buy?

I second this question
>>
>>28035938

Just stick with the 12ga since on the basis that it's the most prolific

I have the cash to blow, I'm just wondering if my purchase means anything besides hey I have a specially made shotgun
>>
Take a moment and look for 8, even 10 gauge ammo. Other than for bragging rights, there's no point.
>>

Lots of recoil in a 10 gauge. If you can shoot at all then it doesn't really offer much more than a 12. Neat as fuck so I wouldn't judge anyone for getting an 8 or a 10 but there's no real benefit over other shotguns.

You're doing it wrong. 12 is honestly as big as you ever need to go since 3"-3.5" shells have more or less shoved most 10s out if the market. When it comes to shotguns you're only really throwing more lead in one shot.

What you should be asking yourself is if 20 gauge is worth it. Are you willing to trade 1-2 pellets of 00 buck at the same velocity in exchange for a lighter gun, more space savings and less recoil? Some of the 20 gauge slugs actually out-do 12s at range.

The majority if the time 20 gauge will get you by just fine. Its just a shame that only a few companies make really good defensive ammo. I like plated #4 .

Rhodesian jungle in 20ga??
>>
12 gauge from hell is all the shotgun you need
>>
>>28035938
Back in the blackpowder days, 10 gauges and such made sense. Nowadays, not so much.

>>28036563
If the 20 gauge gun is lighter, then you won't really be seeing much in the way of recoil reduction.

8 gauge shotguns are used in industrial applications all the time. As a cleaning tool.

You can still find ten gauges around. But if I recall eight gauges are illegal in most cases for their lack of 'sporting purpose' basically all they were used for was illegal waterfowling back in the old days, but legality could vary by state. You can't even get ammo unless you cut/repurpose the industrial slugs that can't chamber in a normal gun

Ten gauges are fun for turkey/goose hunting but have largely been overshadowed by 12 gauge 3.5 magnums in recent years. Although 10 gauges still throw more shot volume and heavier slugs, only ten I ever shot was a double barrel goose gun with a crazy long 30"+ barrel. I'm a big dude and it kicked like a mule, I still want one some day for lulz

Have a sweet 8 gauge single shot I saved a while back

If you have the dosh to blow, Rocky Mountain Cartridge makes full brass shotshell hulls, including 8 gauge shells. They're over $100 for a box of ten, though, and you'd still have to load them yourself.

with 3-1/2 inch 12ga, there's really no point to 10ga.
