Has anyone here shot a S&W 500? Ive been thinking about buying my dad a 500 revolver for his 50th bday, but dont know if the recoil will be to much for the old man.
I know its a monster round, but having never fired it i dont know if people over exaggerate the recoil or if it really is uncomfortable to shoot.
Yes. It's a big bitch. I can shoot it one handed. It's not uncontrollable but it is more expensive to shoot than anything.

.44 mag would be better
I sure have. With the compensated barrel though. It's a quick, forceful rearward jolt to your palm. Then the momentum kinda keeps it moving rearward for a tad bit longer. That's about it. Not bad at all. A titanium frame snub nosed .357 is worse. In fact, I would let my gf shoot the 500 before a .357 or a sub compact .45acp.
Now... the non-compensated models, like the one you posted, those supposedly are an entirely different beast.
It's a meme gun that you buy solely for bragging rights and cool factor.
If you want a really mean bitch get a .460
It's sorta like, shooting a Mosin vs a Barrett. One gives you a super quick violent snap. The other, having more mass, is delayed and the force is spread over more time, and more travelling area
The gun is not nearly as bad to shoot as video game. Shot ten rounds of it and my wrist didn't hurt any more than shooting .357 or .44. I had no problem hitting after getting used to it after the second or third round
The problem with the gun is that it's expensive to shoot. Even doing your own reloads is expensive.
This is essentially a ~$1000 toy, that sits on a shelf or in its box 99% of the time.

Hows your Auto Mag? Just shot mine yesterday. Two whole magazines without a failure. Supposedly remarkable for these pistols.

I don't know why, but Auto Mags make me hard.
Post more of your Auto Mag

>this pleases me
And it's cool, every little bit helps.
How much did you pay for it and where are you getting your ammo if you don't mind me asking?

I got mine for $950 at auction. For ammunition, I load my own. The dies are kind of pricey but brass is cheap from Starline.
