>>
81mm mortar is best mortar.
>>
>>28027921
Only indirect weapon system in infantry. We stand back and help our jaegers in need support. Quite content of my role.
>>
Question:
If you have to engage a fixed position with a mortar but the only visual you have on it is from some sort of crappy ISR, how do you achieve first round hit (or close to) on target?
>>
>>28030082
Lasers, most bigger isr's have laseing capabilities so you'll get a 10 dig grid. Honestly you wont see mortars do that mission most likely unless it's 120mm as they're a battalion asset. Knowing the artillery the fob will push it to arty anyway and it'll take forever and be gay as usual.
>>
Marine 41 here. Heard we'll be getting the new system soon

Already got it in my unit. It got recalled it wobbles to much when you raise the elevation.
>>
>>28031504
Damn I heard it handles like a 60
>>
>>28031574
Its literally a blown up 60 the only difference is where the elevation knob is and the clamp assembly.
>>
>>28031609
Nice. I was always faster on a 60
>>
>>28030785
Sorry I should have been more clear. What if you dont have access to ISR with that kind of capability? If you have to rely on something like a drone because you come from a welfare army haha??
>>
>>28031654
Also, I should make this clear: im only asking because its recently been a topic of discussion among some of the dudes at work...i am not isis

If you have drones you should have laser designators. Pretty much any mission is going to need a laser designator that can give at least a 6 digit grid then the FO will walk us in. You also need to remember mortars arent precision weapons we usually are firing any where from 3 - 6 guns. Those 3 - 6 guns with their blast radius can take up a whole football field of battle space.

3 Para Mortars here
don't hit on me silly bois ;p
>>
>>28031830
ok big rog. If im following you then basically you ain't hitting shit without a proper GR and someone/something with eyes on the tgt.
Will the same principals apply with lets say a 60mm mortar ?

reminds me of this
>>
>>28032053
60mm same. The difference is 60mm has handheld mode which turns it into a glorified grenade launcher. That requires you to have sights on target yourself though or you can use it with bipods and direct lay on the target and adjust with your sights. Direct lay also applies to the 81mm mortar.

>>28025962
how would one acquire a mortar in the US? I take it its a destructive device?
