Poorfag feels edition.

>Be me, at range
>Shooting 100 rounds of Tula .40
>Only 2 malfunctions, both failures to extract, both easily cleared with fingernail

Feels pretty good, actually. I expected worse after all the shit I've heard about Tula handgun ammo
>>
>>27958886
>Poorfag
>Bought a .40 gun
Why?
>>
>>27958886
Who the fuck clears FTE's with their fingernail

You realize pistol extractors are spring loaded for a reason right? They snap over the cartridge base.
>>
>>27958886
I think your gun needs a new extractor. If it left the case in the chamber, but the case wasn't stuck, there is something wrong.
>>
>>27958886
Withdrawn last $100 to buy spam can (way back in 2012). Only have $0.05 in account.

TD bank charges me $50 of fees for having only $0.05 in the account. Close the account and still "owe them" to this day, fuck you TD-nigger bank.
>>
>>27958886
Try "monarch" brand from academy sports.
Cheaper but actually better (lacquered, so they last longer and also are somewhat smoother for better excite action and shit)
>>
>>27958916
It was a gift. USP .40

>>27958947
It worked fine with brass cased WWB, so I don't think it's a problem with the extractor.

>>27958920
Because I'm lazy and I wasn't going to drop the mag while I'm doing slow fire for the first one. Second one was on the last round, so I didn't notice it until I put the gun down. At that point, I just stuck the tip of my finger in the ejection port and flicked it loose. When I picked up the gun I just let the case fall out of the grip.

>>27958970
Will look into it, I might start buying online soon. I bought Tula because it was what my local Wal Mart had for cheap.

It's so funny when you know all poor people in the world are just stupid. Just kill yourself tbqh op

USP, shit I would suggest getting a 9mm barrel and slide but USP parts are expensive, cool gift tho.

Tulammo is all I can really find around here for my Mosin. I'm going to have to buy some brass and get into hand loading if this whole shit with Russia and us not importing keeps going the way it is.

bulk surplus ammo. online.

>>
>>27958886
Nuttin' wrong with some cheap Tulammo. Goes bang. I wouldn't run it through any match barrels.

The bi metal jacket wears barrels out a little faster.
>>
>>27960343
Complete bullshit.
>>
>>27960677
Luckygunner did a test that proves it does...
>>
>>27958886
I frequently drive around in my car worth $800 with a SBR and night vision setup.
>>
>>27960693
Their test only showed that cheap ammo can ruin barrels faster. Cost was the only variable they were testing.
The US Army used bimetal bullets over 100 years ago. During WW2 they ran tests to see if it would wear out barrels faster. No appreciable difference. The Swiss found the same which is why GP11 is still bimetal.
>>
>>27960343
>>27960693
Their test also consisted of firing rifles quick in the middle of a desert. I dont think your range day consists of dumping 10 mags without pausing out of a USP.

Heat is a variable that was exaggerated in their testing

I've put about 400 rounds of Wolf Polyformance steel case through my AR, and I've only had a few malfunctions.
>three magazine related, weak spring in mag III and V, round nosedive in feed ramp and had to be manually chambered with charging handle
>two failure to feed, case ejected, trigger reset but nothing chambered

All in all, I was pleasantly surprised. Meh-tier groupings on paper, but whatever.
>>
>>27960734
>cheap ammo can ruin barrels faster
please define 'cheap ammo' and why it would be solely responsible for inordinate wear
>>
>>27961541
Cheap ammo uses cheap primers and powder.
Cheap powder used by the slavs tends to be higher in nitroglycerine and burns hotter. To keep the costs down things like deterrent coatings tend to be skipped as well.. This lets them use less but increases bore erosion. Same reason the Brits dropped the nitro glycerine content in Cordite before finally abandoning it.
>>
>>27961683
fascinating. I'm just getting into reloading so this is both interesting and makes sense. thanks anon

Ultimately, at what rate does steel case wear versus brass? or is it 1:1 comparable?

At the end of the day, steel case tends to be unreliable which is why I've never really cared for the cost efficiency. Especially given said reloading

Still, I'm very interested in wear comparisons/rates.
>>
>>27961793
Steel case wears exactly the same as brass. The steel used can even be softer than cartridge brass.
>>
>>27961883
And are there any factors related to bullet composition that can accelerate wear?

And just to be sure, steel is not to be reloaded, correct? Or if it can be, only once (so why bother)?

thanks anon
>>
Good lord how much are you guys shooting? Unless are being a tier one douche and doing mag dumps nonstop the money you save shooting steel ammo will almost certainly pay for a new barrel and associated parts. But since you can afford to shoot so much ammo why does it matter how fast steel ammo wears things out?
>>
>>27961883
go ND yourself you stupid nigger. Then go use a steel brush to remove rust from your granpappy's WWII bringback p08 luger.

>The steel used can even be softer than cartridge brass.
nigger WAHT???

>>27961901
dont listen to retards. Brass wears down guns slower. period.
>>
>>27961901
Steel can be reloaded. Most don't since steel work hardens fast and most surplus steel cases use Berdan primers. Straight wall pistol cases in steel can be reloaded almost infinitely.
>>27961929
Maybe educate yourself before posting so you don't sound like such a retard.
>>
>>27961901
Forgot to add.
The main component in bullets wearing down rifling is the bearing surface on the bullet. Large surfaces tend to wear more than short ones. Short bearing surfaces can start to impact accuracy though.
>>
>>27961929
Different anon here, you're wrong about steel vs. brass wearing out barrels. You are also uneducated about metallurgy if you don't know that several types of brass are harder than several low end steels.
>>
The only guns that have ever given me trouble with Tula is my ARs. I shoot it out of all of my pistols including my 1911, cz, beretta, glock etc and my AKs 223/7.62 without any issues ever.
>>
>>27961958
>Straight wall pistol cases in steel can be reloaded almost infinitely.
that's hella appealing considering I realod 9x19 and .40. I'm inclined to buy new ammo, shoot it, and reload the fresh steel (in this case). What brands should I look for (first priority being boxer primed I figure)? Where would I find it? What other considerations must I take when reloading steel? I already have tungsten carbide dies
>>
>>27962122
Clean like normal and watch for cracks, lube thoroughly and use carbide dies.
I have a bunch of Hornady steel case but there are still WW2 .45acp steel cases out there.
>>
>>27958962
Why did I laugh so hard at this
>>
>>27958996
Your local Walmart doesn't carry Federal aluminum cased ammo? It's not bimetal jacket stuff so it'll definitely be easier on you barrel long term. Just as cheap as steel stuff and much better.
>>
>>27962557
>>27962163
Thanks anon. This brings up another question: reloading aluminum cases
>>
>>27962685
Don't
Most are berdan primed but newer blaser uses small boxer primers. The aluminum cracks during resizing. Typically half will get one reload and none can be done more than four or so loads.
>>
>>27961883
no. just...no
cases are brass specifically so that they dont wear the steel components of a firearm as quickly.
Russia ignored this because lolcheaper and they could swing the maintenance in economies of scale.
>>
>>27958886

>2% failure rate

ok, so I got the 'only reload once/don't bother' from somewhere it seems.

Any reasons to reload steel over brass? Is there any steel that wouldn't make the cut (and how would I even know)?

You're being very helpful and patient, anon. thanks for sticking with me - fortunately for you I'm about to pass out and if I do I'll definitely be checking in the morning
>>
>>27962773
I'd probably handle that like some weird peyote-fueled spirit journey - adrenaline and dopamine would totally blindside me
>>
>>27962805
Reloading steel is primarily for when you don't have a source for brass. Some do it simply so they don't have to pick up brass after competitions.
>>
>>27962726
>>27962726
The difference is whether it's the ammo or the gun
>if it's the gun
absolutely disgusting; no excuse
>if it's the ammo
disappointing fer sure, but that's why I buy with the intent to stock up, which means I emphasize consistent reliability in my ammo purchases. Consistent reliability seems to jump greatly when buying brass, no matter how shitty.
>>
>>27962828
good to know anon thank you. fortunately I've got probably a few hundred brass cases, mainly 9mm, already cleaned and decapped. Should keep me busy in addition to what I can collect ambiently. Thanks again

>>

No. This is absolutely wrong.
I really hope you guys dont think that steel cases will wear down your chamber or something asinine.

>>

>>
>>27963802
clean/ polish your bolt and quit whining. I swear people treat stickybolt like some pharaoh's curse that you just have to deal with
>>
>>27963802
That....sounds like you have a sticky bolt, try disassembling your bolt, cleaning it, properly reassembling it (Remember firing pin gauge) and then try again.
>>
>>27963812
not that anon but I've cleaned out the chamber, polished the bolt pieces, greased, and even cut down the firing pin spring... still gotta smack it after firing. it really is a fucking curse.
>>
OP, just buy PerFecta ammo at Walmart. It's about the same price as a whitebox but about 100 times cleaner.

I don't have a .40 but I do shoot .45 ACP and I've found this ammo to be a hidden gem. It's fairly new I guess. The most common response I get when I bring it up is "Never heard of it."

But at $15 per 50 .45 ACP and being clean as fuck I am not complaining.
>>
>>27964022
OP here, I saw a tag on the shelf for the Perfecta ammo. It was a more than a dollar cheaper than the Tula, but it was out of stock.
>>
>>27960693
Yea but their test concluded that was only for really fast rounds like 223. I would like to see them do one slower intermediate rounds or pistol rounds
>>
>>27963822

Shot 200 rounds of this stuff through three different pistols the other day and not. one. single. failure.

Not a poorfag, but I can't justify not buying this stuff when it's so cheap and works so well.
>>
>>27958886
I have never had a problem with Tula. Shot thousands out of AK's and Glocks just fine. And probably 200 out of AR's
