British Army bloke here, this was tipped by many, the RAF have suffered under the last few SDRs and were bleating about 'their turn'. Flash jets dosnt change the fact that they are basically a military themed wing of a budget airline. Should have gave it all to the Navy fleet arm.

The Brit explained that the number would be 150+ if they were making a new carrier in say 2025 or later.

They listen to the SDSR. The SDSR calls for a replacement carrier in 2040 and nothing else.

But the next one is out tomorrow, so who knows? I doubt they'll have three.

Lockheed Martin promises a flyaway cost of $85.

The 2019 deadline is just 38 month away and the A airframe still costs $93 million in LRIP 9.

Just looking at how the B and A cost are only 10 million apart, that would mean that an A order by the brits would be $122 million fly-away. This is for 2018 by the way.

It's my conjeture but based upon this, I doubt LM is gonna make the $85 mil A 2019 flyaway promise.

I dunno about that actually. Being in the restaurant business, this makes me think about what kind of margins LM is making from these jets. Hardware and vehicles are often sold with very thin margins after heavy manufacturing and design costs; which partially explains why big electronics companies risk closing if they miss their projected sales of their products even if they manage to sell millions anyway.

Everyone parrots the numbers on how much it costs to buy an F-35, but how much does it cost to build one? Don't anyone tell me it's $32 million either; anyone would love to make that kind of margin but no one would be willing pay that kind of margin.

There's a lot of work on the F-35 that isn't there on conventional material (aluminum) planes that can drive up labor costs.

The UK was already fighting ISIS and had done more strike missions than anybody else bar the US.

I'm not sure why everyone forgets this. The only difference is now they'll be striking over the border too.
