Nearly every Christensen I've gotten in has had some horrible issue with it.

None of the rails on the handguards of the AR's are in spec. Look at any of their AR-10's and laugh at how that little ladder rail cover on the bottom rail only fits half of it.

Also, the three shot group accuracy proof target in the boxes of their carbon fiber rifles is rarely under two inches.

Cosmoline is actually pretty expensive shit, not used for everyday preservation needs. More like Soviet stockpile in the middle of the woods undiscovered for 100 years then sold to the capitalists type of preservation.

I assume this idea was conceived after copious amounts of vodka.

If a normal spring breaks than there will already have been much more fatigue than two tiny wires could handle.

I think the more likely explanation is that they had a more ready supply of small diameter spring wire, and so decided to twist them together to make one big spring, and the idea stuck through generations of lazy engineers.

No way to be sure without giving it a good cleaning, but looks like mfg residue more then grease. There might be a little bit of flash / surface rusting in that, but even if there was, 100% is going to come off if you hit that up with some CLP
