Lets look at the logistic train of a blaster, electricity, tibanna gas(assuming Argon,carbon and nitrogen mix) . These things can be easily refined on site, transported and are somewhat universal or able to be remixed.

The difference between turbolaser battery gas and one for a stormtrooper squad is a matter of mixtures and purity.

Lets look at the logistical train for an M4 and the 120mm cannon. The tech levels may be simpler but the costs of synthesizing nitrocellulose and nitroglycerin and related other components is expensive. The need for ore and refining for lead, copper and brass is another cost. There is no compatibility between ammunition even though they share the elements. Finally there is transportation costs, ammo has high safety considerations and is affected by radiation.

Just like the bolter and lasrifle it is about logistics.

Pardon me for sperging out here, but I grew up as hard a Star Wars expanded universe fan as many trekkies are about that show, and with the retcons and now Disneyfication, I don't get to do this much.

Short answer: They had projectile weapons. Plenty of people did. But blasters were easier to get, use, and maintain.

Long answer: different tools for different jobs. Many people who were likely to fight in space, or needed a gun "just in case", or were supplied by an employer on a budget (governments, corporations) preferred blasters. More expensive, but quite banned were disruptors, but plenty of people without access to blasters used projectile weapons, and more importantly, assassins and the criminal element used projectile weapons. Fett regularly preferred projectile weapons, and anyone trying to kill a Jedi preferred projectile weapons, as they move faster, and are not deflected by a lightsaber. Also, shield tech did not stop physical projectiles. This is why torpedoes and missiles were still in rotation.
Mind you, you can't just pop off at a Mon Cal Cruiser with 9mm and hope for the best, but criminal syndicates like the Hutts liked to outfit ships with railgun/mass driver weapons on the sly, so as to just obliterate any law enforcement, if the need arose.
Fun fact: a shitload of inexperienced jedi and padawan have died on Tatooine, because Tuskens use bolt action rifles.

OP, like theyve mentioned already, plenty of firearms. Its just that blasters shoot straight until they dissapait at the end o their range, since they "blast" ionized gas bolts (the beam you see is supposed to be like a 'tracer' of the bolt or somesuch

Slugthrowers can have longer ranges and require less maintenance (exactly what you can expect of a firearm today) but people got lazy and didnt want to calculate windage and drop in their heads, so they are more than happy to use a blaster that can still shoot out to 300 or so yards.

Also, magazines full of live ammo weight more than a cartridge that holds enough power for 500 shots and a small canister of gas that holds enough for 100 or so.

Kathleen Kennedy decided to purge the Expanded Universe before the release of the new films for multiple reasons the first because it contradicts what they had planned and also gives authors more creative freedom. It was going to happen anyway if Lucas decided to make the final trilogy.

Additionally, the EU was never truly canon to begin with. Lucas has always considered it fan fiction and would willing override anything it established.

Nein, the advanced plastoid armor that the Stormtrooper's armor is made of is pretty much bulletproof. And the blasters fire superheaded gas/plasma bolts which would burn through the armor. Of course something like an anti-materiel rifle would probably penetrate it but im not going to make crazy assumptions, it would be like supposing you could hunt a Steelix with .338 Lapula. Stormtrooper armor has a sort of anti-blaster coating, iirc, but its still only good for a glancing blow.

It does about as much good in the show as the Shields on the Rebel's fighters does.

Also, something a lot of things have ruined were that Stormtroopers were just supposed to be, litterally, stormtroopers, with the bulk of Imperial forces being made up of 'regular' soldiers who had chest places and helmets (remember the guy who was in the AT-AT on Hoth wearing green? like that)
