So I have the opportunity to purchase a Marlin Model 1895 chambered in .45-70 for $600.
>pic related
Should I buy it? So far it seems like a good price compared to cabelas and bass pro but this with set me back a month on purchasing an Original GI Springfield 1903.
>>
>>27909850
Buy the SBL version. And with whatever gat you get, make sure it's stamped that it was made in Ilion, NY. If its from any other factory, don't get the gun.
>>
>>27910900
Thank you.
What does SBL stand for?
>>
>>27910932
No idea, but its the stainless steel version, has a picatinny rail on top, and a larger magazine that lets you hold 6+1. I love mine.
>>
>>27910946
Oh that isn't this one. The one I'm looking to get looks exactly like pic related.
Is the price good though?
>>
Price is about average for the gun. Just check things like the front sight to make sure its not canted and check for machining marks in the action and barrel. AND MAKE SURE ITS MADE IN ILION, NY.
>>
>>27910989
I'm guessing this NY thing is very important.
Oh and it has fiber optic sights on it
>>
>>27911025
Marlin has sketchy quality control after Remington bought them out. Like Picasso level of sketch. So far, only the Ilion factory can put out a gun that is of any decent quality.
>>
>>27911051
Wow, that is really good to know. So if it isn't NY then I shouldn't buy it?
>>
>>27911081
Just be sure to quadruple check it because the quality will likely be lacking.
>>
>>27911110
That's the thing... Walmart is selling it...
Now it does have a tag saying Marlin: Made In USA so it seems legit but if it isn't those ass hats hate letting people touch the guns.
>>
>>27911141
It'll be stamped on the barrel.
>>
>>27909850
Like other anon said make sure sights arent canted. Also check to make sure furniture isnt too shittily fitted.

Mostly check for outer asthetics. Internals are easy to work on yourself.
>>
>>27911162
Okay good.
Really appreciate you guys helping me out. Not a no guns but I love lever actions and didn't want my first one to be shit

I want to get a marlin 1893 someday. That receiver pushes all the right buttons for me.
>>
Update:
Went to Walmart and checked it out.
It is made in NY, so I guess I'm good. Now I just hope no one buys it before Friday. Oh yeah and I ran into my ex, that was fun. Don't you just love living in a small town.

The old marlin and the ones made in the last few years are okay. After remington bought them out and moved the factory, there was a lot of issues as the machinists had the knowledge of how to make the stuff up in their heads and passed down via word of mouth, nothing was written down asides from notes.

Took almost a decade, but they are being made better now than when that pic was taken.

I want a shotgun that fires modern loads, preferably 3" shells.

It must be a lever shotty.
>dat old browning tech shotty fires 2.5" only
>>
>>27912604
I got nothing, but if you find one be sure to let me know.

I recently got a pre '64 Winchester model 94 for 300$. Was that a decent deal? Action is good and rust is superficial pits in some places on the exterior. Aside from some blue worn away the finish is all still clean too. Checked the stamp and its confirmed made in '58 or something.

I'd leave some pics to show off but I'm not home with it. I'm new to shooting and its my first rifle but I've been told its a good purchase by others. I've taken it out once and it feels fantastic to cycle, very smooth. I'm just curious if the condition is as good as I'm told regarding the rust and diminished blue. If the thread is still alive in 9 hours when I'm home I'll show it off.

I had never really used repeaters before, decided I wanted a .22lr rifle and was looking around at bolt actions and such and I came across the Henry Golden boy, It was super heavy for a .22 rifle which I really liked and it runs smooth as butter, I had to buy it.

Having a lot of fun because it's so easy, fast and fun to shoot. I don't think the enjoyment I get out of it would translate in to larger calibers for me though.

Old Marlins are great rifles. Next to the .45-70 I like this one best.
>>
>>27912895
Yeah, Adler a110
Beautiful shotgun
>>
>>27914375
Is it true what they say lately about modern marlins having sub-par quality control? Little things like parts not sitting flush together at seams, noticeable burrs still on most metal pieces, or scratches in the finish fresh from the box?
>>
>>27914476
We can get those in the states right?? I mean if Australia can have it then it should be legal here as well.

Nice, mine is form 1950, but IIRC it was $400
>>
>>27914570
Looks like yours is in a bit better shape than mine anyway. Gorgeous guns though, I'm immensely proud of mine at least.
>>
>>27914529
It would be legal for you to own one, 100% (you lucky bastards have all the fun)
