I'm sure a bunch probably weren't vets but just claiming to be, but otherwise it was like every vet in the damn city from Korea onward must have been there.

Look guys, this wasn’t offered up as bait. I truly think this way, and maybe I’m naïve to think you can have integrity when you have served your country honorably & still try to honor those who have /are still. I think most of my respect goes to older veterans because of what I have seen and heard over the years. I come from a family that has strong martial traditions and I grew up listening to some very amazing stories. As I had my chance to serve I saw firsthand what I had heard and knew that most was not bullshit. Our country owes a huge debt of gratitude to our vets. For some reason I think of the WWII Vet that I had the pleasure of drinking a few beers with at the American Legion in Sacketts Harbor New York. He told me of some of the hardships he & his comrades endured during the Battle of the Bulge while holding the bottle with his hands that were missing the tips of his fingers(lost no doubt to frostbite). I mean no disrespect to our newer vets. We are just living in a more irreverent time.

Is this real? Goddamn I hate America. It's like they have no self-consciousness of how shallow and misguided "hurr help our heroes day" is. Veterans don't want to be called heroes or whatever. I seen a hobo in Nevada say he was a veteran, and that alone without any I.D. is already stolen valor tier, because if they were really a veteran than they would have at least got the benefits of not roaming the street in front of a gas station and telling other people to buy him a 'drink'.

I get sucked into it occasionally, my wife has a lot of vets or current serves in her family.

Its never worth it. Long waits, very limited choices, cost benefit analysis = not worth it. Like I said, I go because everyone else does, what the hell its free food and I do tip the server quite generously.

It usually is a bunch of dickslapping pogs tho, wearing their VA hats or branch T-shirts talking about glory days.

I just wear normal clothes and show my mil ID if asked for proof.
